Brother Ross stated that he was under the impression that the areas structure was of a temporary nature, as head-office had not provide much in the way of regulation or rules Past High Chief Ranger Battershill stated that no circular had ever fully set out the area's structure. Brother Thomas said that he was disappointed that the Area Co-ordinator, had not informed the committee in advance, that he had been given the sack. Several brethren wondered if it was because the Area Co-ordinator was not particularly good with certain aspects of administration, especially in regards to the preparing of reports and other documentation, Brother Ross said that the letter that was written by Tony Lewis, was worded most unfortunately, and with a bit of forethought, much "nashing of teeth" could have been avoided. The Area Chief Ranger asked the Area Sub-Chief Ranger if he had heard back from his Solicitors' in regards to this matter. Brother Quigley-Ferriday replied that he had, but he did

not think this was the time nor place to read the content of the legal opinion he had received, in case it was leaked back to head-office, however, Brother Quigley-Ferriday informed the meeting that he was not prepared to embark on a long course of litigation against the society, like that that he pursued against the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, as the current matter did not directly affect him. Brother Reynolds read to the meeting, an extract from the Employment Act 1978 Brother Small asked if Brother Corke was planning to take legal action against the Society. Brother Quigley-Ferriday replied that be understood from Brother Corke, that he would prefer it if matters could be sorted out in a gentlemanly fashion, without recourse to litigation Sister Thomas stated that the 'argument' was going around in circles, and asked, as the Area Co-ordinator was a paid employee of head-office, could the Area, in fact do anything about it. Brother Quigley-Ferriday replied that as an Area, we could do nothing, however, members, in particular Brother Corke did have means to recourse to law. Various brethren spoke in relation to Employment law, and whether the Society was legally obliged to advertise a new position of employment. Brother Quigley-Ferriday stated that it depends what you term as "new", as from the face of it, it would appear as if the position of Area Co-ordinator for Devon & Cornwall was being abolished, and that the functions of the Area Co-ordinator were being transferred to Sister Janet Clements, as an addition to her other responsibilities for other areas. Past High Chief Ranger Battershill asked Brother Quigley-Ferriday if he had contacted the FSA. Brother Quigley- Ferriday confirmed that his solicitors had been in communications with the FSA, but not to any great depth, only to ascertain certain facts relating to Friendly Society Law. Sister Hill said that the first she knew of Brother Corke's departure, was a telephone call she received one morning from Sister Clements, introducing herself as the new Area Coordinator. Brother Ross stated that he also had received a 'phone call from Sister Clements, before the official letter from Tony Lewis had reached him. The Area Chief Ranger said that Brother Corke had never visited Court "One & All No. 3470 at any time, to perform one of'his 'inspections'. Brother Reynolds asked was this meeting to discuss the merits of the new Area Co-ordinator or to mull over the faults of the previous one.

Minutes of the Extraordinary General Meeting held on the 261fl June 2010 at the Masonic Hall, South Street, StAustel1, Cornwall
Past High Chief Ranger Battershill stated that the Area should send a formal letter to the Company's Chairman, Brother Carpenter, registering their contempt in relation to how this matter has been bandled. Sister Porter (visitor) said that Brother Corke was, more than likely being removed because of people complaining to head-office about how inefficient he was. Brother Quigley-Ferriday asked Sister Porter if she had proof that complaints had been made to head-office about Brother Corke. Sister Porter (visitor) declined to answer. Brother Thomas asked various questions relating to the Accreditation process Brother Ross lamented the fact that this area never appears to get much of a write-up in the new style Miscellany, he said that the publication appears to be going downhill fast. Brother Reynolds asked about the hire of the hall in Torquay, for the holding of a quiz. Brother Quigley-Ferriday stated that he had been in contact with the Livennead House, The Grand and the Imperial Hotels, but all were fully booked. The Area Chief Ranger stated that it would appear that there will be no quiz Past High Chief Ranger Battershill said that head-office had said they would give new Area Co-ordinators' training, but in talking with Brother Corke, this appears not to have been effected.
