This week the map has a bit of a different look. It is a “World in a Circle” map, rather than a flat projection map.
Label the Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Greenland Sea, Labrador Sea, Barents Sea, Norwegian Sea, Baltic Sea and North Sea. Label Great Britain, England, Ireland and Scotland. Label Scandinavia, Norway, Sweden and Finland. Label the Jutland Peninsula, Denmark and Germany. Label the Netherlands and Belgium. Some of the Vikings moved from Scandinavia down to the part of France that became known as Normandy. Label Normandy. Some of the Vikings sailed to Iceland, so label Iceland. Eric the Red sailed on to Greenland, so label Greenland. Leif Ericsson sailed from Greenland to Newfoundland, so label Newfoundland. CHALLENGE: Label the Gulf of Bothnia, the Skagerrak Strait and the Kattegat Bay.
GEOGRAPHY NEED TO KNOW: The location of the Jutland Peninsula. The countries that lie on that peninsula (Denmark and part of Germany). The locations of the Baltic Sea, Greenland Sea, Labrador Sea, Barents Sea, Norwegian Sea, Gulf of Bothnia, Skagerrak Strait and Kattergat Bay.
