Allah "will cast terror"; what is it? Terror is an intense, all consuming fear which saps the will, paralyzes the muscles and fogs the mind, rendering its victims incapable of defending themselves. Terror is what the subway passengers experienced when the bombs exploded in London and Madrid. Terror is what the office workers experienced when aircraft shook their offices and engulfed them in flames. It is what we relive when we view close up photographs of victims jumping from the towers. Moe did not have bombs or aircraft. He had an army of barbarians and deliberately built a reputation for barbarian rapine. He wanted his intended victims to swoon with terror at the mention of his name. Three ayat are critical to comprehending this fact: 8:57, 59:2 & 59:13. 8:57. So if you gain the mastery over them in war, punish them severely in order to disperse those who are behind them, so that they may learn a lesson. Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:33, linked in the quote, lists prescribed punishments for "waging war against Allah and his Messenger", which includes disbelief: "only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land". I highlighted two crucial clauses in the Hilali & Khan translation because I want you to compare some alternatives from other translators.

Pickthall: deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, that haply they may remember Dr. Munir Munshey deal with them very sternly, so as to strike terror among them, and to serve as a lesson for their successors.

The Muslims are commanded to inflict harsh treatment on defeated victims for the purpose of terrorizing other enemies. In Surah Al-Hashr 59:2, we discover the practical application of that commandment. 59:2. He it is Who drove out the disbelievers among the people of the Scripture (i.e. the Jews of the tribe of Banî An-Nadîr) from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think that they would get out. And they thought that their fortresses would defend them from Allâh! But Allâh's (Torment) reached them from a place whereof they expected it not, and He cast terror into their hearts, so that they destroyed their own dwellings with their own hands and the hands of the believers. Then take admonition, O you with eyes (to see). Allah terrorized the Jewish settlement, displaced & dispossessed them and set them up as an example to others. How did Allah cast terror? The answer is in 59:13. 59:13. Verily, you (believers in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism) are more awful as a fear in their (Jews of Banî An-Nadîr) breasts than Allâh. That is because they are a people who comprehend not (the Majesty and Power of Allâh).

Terror

Allah told Moe that the Jews were more afraid of his army than they were of Allah. Moe and his army were Allah's instrument of terrorism. What harsh punishment did Moe inflict to terrify prospective victims? For the answer, we turn first to Surah Al-Ahzab 33:26. 33:26. And those of the people of the Scripture who backed them (the disbelievers) Allâh brought them down from their forts and cast terror into their hearts, (so that) a group (of them) you killed, and a group (of them) you made captives. Allah terrorized, with Moe's army, a Jewish settlement so that he killed some and captivated others. What the verse does not tell you is that an estimated 800-900 men and adolescent boys were slaughtered after they surrendered and their widows & orphans were enslaved. Sunan Abu Dawud Book 38, Number 4390: Narrated Atiyyah al-Qurazi: I was among the captives of Banu Qurayzah. They (the Companions) examined us, and those who had begun to grow hair (pubes) were killed, and those who had not were not killed. I was among those who had not grown hair. How did Moe exploit his barbarous reputation? He dictated and dispatched extortion letters. This one is among the most explicit of those missives.
LETTER TO THE CHIEFS OF AQABA

In the name of ALLAH the compassionate, the Merciful From Muhammad, Prophet of Allah To the People of Aqaba May peace be on you. I praise Allah who is one and except whom there is nobody else to be worshipped. I do not intend to wage war against you till you receive my written reason for it. It is better for you, either to accept Islam or agree to pay Jiziya and consent to remain obedient to Allah, His prophet and his messengers. My messengers deserve honour. Treat them with respect. Whatever pleases my messengers, will also please me. These people have been informed of the orders about Jiziya. If you desire that there should be peace and security in the world, obey Allah and His Prophet. Thereafter none in Arabia and Ajam (Iran) shall dare cast an evil eye on you. But the rights of Allah and His Prophet can at no time be waived. If you do not accept these terms and set them aside, I do not need your presents and gifts. In that case, I shall have to wage war (to establish peace and security). Its result would be that the big ones shall be killed in war and the commoners shall be taken prisoners. I assure you that I am a true Prophet of Allah. I believe in Allah, and His Books, and His Prophets and am of the faith that Maseeh (Messiah) son of Mariam (Mary), is a Prophet of Allah and His word. Hurmala (Raziallah AnhoA.) who brought to me 3 wasaq (about 6 quintals) of barley, recommended your case. Had it not been in compliance of the command of Allah and the good opinion of Hurmala for you, it would not have been necessary for me to correspond with you and instead of it, there would have been a war. If you will obey my messengers, you shall immediately have my support and the help and support of everyone who is attached to me.

Terror

My messengers are Shuraih-beel, Obaiy, Hurmala and Hurais (Raziallah AnhoA.) and whatever decision they take in respect of you, shall be acceptable to me. Your people are under the protection and responsibility of Allah and His Prophet. Supply provisions to the Jews of Maqna, for their journey to their country. Most of the ayat describing terror are related to the condition of disbelieves & sinners on Judgment Day, but they give us a clue to the meaning of the word.

As a raid by night, or while they slept at noon, Our terror came unto them. r Our torment came upon them by night or while they were taking their midday nap. ) means, Allah's command, torment and vengeance came over them at night or while taking a nap in the middle of the day. Both of these times are periods of rest and leisure or heedlessness and amusement. Nations that were destroyed 8:12. (Remember) when your Lord inspired the angels, "Verily, I am with you, so keep firm those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved, so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes." r ...(I will cast terror into the hearts of those who have disbelieved.) means, `you -- angels -support the believers, strengthen their (battle) front against their enemies, thus, implementing My command to you. I will cast fear, disgrace and humiliation over those who defied My command and denied My Messenger, (so strike them over the necks, and smite over all their fingers and toes.) strike them on their foreheads to tear them apart and over the necks to cut them off, and cut off their limbs, hands and feet.... That is because they suffer neither thirst nor fatigue, nor hunger in the Cause of Allâh, nor they take any step to raise the anger of disbelievers nor inflict any injury upon an enemy but is written to their credit as a deed of righteousness. Surely, Allâh wastes not the reward of the Muhsinûn 33:26. And those of the people of the Scripture who backed them (the disbelievers) Allah brought them down from their forts and cast terror into their hearts, (so that) a group (of them) you killed, and a group (of them) you made captives. r (and cast terror into their hearts;) means fear, because they had supported the idolators in their war against the Messenger of Allah and the one who knows is not like the one who does not know. They had terrified the Muslims and intended to kill them so as to gain earthly power, but their plans backfired; the idolators ran away and the believers were victorious while the disbelievers were losers; where they had aimed for glory, they were humiliated. Then take admonition, O you with eyes (to see). r ...Therefore, Allah sent His torment down on them; it can never be averted, and His appointed destiny touched them; it can never be resisted. The Prophet forced them to evacuate and abandon their fortified forts that Muslims did not think they would ever control. ...Then take admonition, O you with eyes.) meaning, "Contemplate the end of those who defied Allah's command, contradicted His Messenger and denied His Book. See how Allah's humiliating torment struck them in this life, as well as, the painful torment that Allah has reserved for them in the Hereafter.''... The End that Bani AnNadir suffered 59:13. Of a truth ye are stronger (than they) because of the terror in their hearts, (sent) by God. This is because they are men devoid of understanding. r ...(Verily, you are more fearful in their breasts than Allah.) meaning, the hypocrites fear you more than they fear Allah, as He says; (Behold! a section of them fear men as they fear Allah or even more.)... The False Promise of Support the Hypocrites gave to the Jews 8:57. So if you gain the mastery over them in war, punish them severely in order to disperse those who are behind them, so that they may learn a lesson. r ...(then disperse those who are behind them,) by severely punishing •the captured people • according to Ibn `Abbas, Al-Hasan Al-Basri, Ad-Dahhak, As-Suddi, `Ata' Al-Khurasani and Ibn `Uyaynah. This Ayah commands punishing them harshly and inflicting casualties on them. This way, other enemies, Arabs and non-Arabs, will be afraid and take a lesson from their end,... Striking Hard against Those Who disbelieve and break the Covenants Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 7, Number 331: Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: The Prophet said, "I have been given five things which were not given to any one else before me. 1. Allah made me victorious by awe, (by His frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month's journey. . Sahih Bukhari Volume 4, Book 52, Number 220: Narrated Abu Huraira:

Of these verses, one stands out above the rest as the smoking gun of terrorism. I want you to memorize and quote this curse worthy verse at every opportunity because it promises Muslims an upgrade in Allah's celestial bordello for any act of terrorism.

fatigue, nor hunger in the Cause of Allâh, nor they take any step to raise the anger of disbelievers nor inflict any injury upon an enemy but is written to their credit as a deed of righteousness. Surely, Allâh wastes not the reward of the Muhsinûn Any step taken to injure or enrage disbelievers is a deed of righteousness, which, weighed against the Muslim's sins on Judgment Day, gets him closer to Al-Firdhaus. The highlighted clause in this verse must be memorized and quoted by every lover of life & liberty; every hater of war & terrorism because it is the smoking gun which proves the fatal fact.

Intrinsic Sacrament
Terrorism is not an innovation nor is it a product of radicalism or extremism; it is an intrinsic sacrament at the core of Islam, established by Surah Al-Imran 3:151 & Surah Al-Anfal 8:12. Muslims are commanded to terrify their enemies in Surah Al-Anfal 27 & 60. Moe bragged about winning with terror in Sahih Bukhari 1.7.331 & 4.52.220. Moe is to be emulated: Surah Al-Ahzab 33:21. Muslims must emulate a terrorist! Their role model was a terrorist! 33:21. Indeed in the Messenger of Allâh (Muhammad ) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day and remembers Allâh much.

Doctrine Driven
Islamic terrorism is not a function of radicalism or extremism; not driven by poverty, repression, suppression, occupation, ignorance, illiteracy or social injustice. Islamic terrorism is driven by the damnable doctrines enshrined in the Qur'an and exemplified by Moe's sunnah. If you do not comprehend this, read and re-read the the list of terror related verses above until it penetrates your thick skull. Muslims are promised more and better wine, milk, honey, fruit, meat and houries in Allah's celestial bordello for any step taken to injure or enrage disbelievers. Allah rewards terrorists!!

Intrinsic to Jihad
Terrorism is not something special, it is an intrinsic part of jihad. "Allah cast terror" so that Moe was victorious. The terror imperatives are contained in Surah Al-Anfal which also contains the imperative to fight pagans and the imperative to maximize military strength. Jihad and terror are not separate and can not be separated.

Terror is Mandatory
"Jihad is ordained for you" in Surah Al-Baqarah 2:216. Muslims are commanded to strike terror and terrify in 8:57 & 8:60. Islam does not permit picking and choosing among its doctrines; it is a package

deal--all or nothing. 2:85 makes this fact abundantly clear. 2:85. After this, it is you who kill one another and drive out a party of you from their homes, assist (their enemies) against them, in sin and transgression. And if they come to you as captives, you ransom them, although their expulsion was forbidden to you. Then do you believe in a part of the Scripture and reject the rest? Then what is the recompense of those who do so among you, except disgrace in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they shall be consigned to the most grievous torment. And Allâh is not unaware of what you do. If you reject part of the Qur'an, Allah will burn you. If you are called to fight and shirk your duty, Allah will burn you: Surah At-Taubah 9:38 leaves no doubt. 9:38. O you who believe! What is the matter with you, that when you are asked to march forth in the Cause of Allâh (i.e. Jihâd) you cling heavily to the earth? Are you pleased with the life of this world rather than the Hereafter? But little is the enjoyment of the life of this world as compared with the Hereafter. 9:39. If you march not forth, He will punish you with a painful torment and will replace you by another people, and you cannot harm Him at all, and Allâh is Able to do all things.

Not Anachronistic
The jihad & terror imperatives do not have expiration dates, they are open ended, outcome oriented fight...until loops. During the regime of Zia Ul-Haq, Brig. S.K. Malik wrote his strategy manual for Pakistan's army, applying the ancient rules to modern military strategy.

Ends & Means
Terror is both a means and an end. This paragraph comes from the bottom of page 59. [Emphasis added.] Terror struck into the hearts of the enemies is not only a means, it is the end in itself. Once a condition of terror into the opponent's heart is obtained, hardly anything is left to be achieved. It is the point where the means and the end meet and merge. Terror is not a means of imposing decision upon the enemy; it is me decision we wish to impose upon him.

Keys to Victory

Muslims from being terrorized. This paragraph comes from page 60. [Emphasis added.] Terror cannot be struck into the hearts of an army by merely cutting its lines of communication or depriving it of its routes of withdrawal. It is basically related to the strength or weakness of the human soul. It can be instilled only if the opponent's Faith is destroyed. Psychological dislocation is temporary; spiritual dislocation is permanent. Psychological dislocation can be produced by a physical act but this does not hold good of the spiritual dislocation. To instill terror into the hearts of the enemy, it is essential. in the ultimate analysis, to dislocate his Faith. An invincible Faith is immune to terror. A weak Faith offers inroads to terror. The Faith conferred upon us by the Holy Qur'an has the inherent strength to ward off terror from us and to enable us to strike terror into the enemy. Whatever the form or type of strategy directed against the enemy, it must, in order to be effective, be capable of striking terror into the hearts of the enemy. A strategy that fails to attain this condition suffers from inherent drawbacks and weaknesses; and should be reviewed and modified. This rule is fully applicable to nuclear as well as conventional wars. It is equally true of the strategy of nuclear deterrence in fashion today. To be credible and effective, the strategy of deterrence must be capable of striking terror into the hearts of the enemy.
