What is The Uhuru Academy?

The Uhuru Academy is an independent institution of learning committed to cultural awareness, academic excellence, and the exercise of freedom. The Uhuru Academy is made up of a variety of programs, projects, and/or initiatives that are designed to move the African community toward self discovery, self reliance, and self determination. Our vision Our vision is to build an exemplary institution of learning that is accessible to all students and families who believe that receiving a quality education is just as much a right as it is a privilege. Our Mission Our mission is to provide our students with an exceptional education experience that will not only prepare them for the world of work, but will foster and develop their leadership potential and motivate them to become community builders, global citizens, and stewards of positive growth and change in our society. Our Programs The Uhuru Academy offers a variety of programs and initiatives that enrich our community culturally and academically: The Uhuru Prep Academy: The Uhuru Prep Academy is a private elementary school for youth in grades K 5. The focus of the prep academy is to assist parents in laying a solid cultural foundation within the learning process of their children. The Uhuru Prep Academy Operation Reconnect: Operation Reconnect is private institution of learning and professional development dedicated to providing disconnected youth and young adults with the opportunity re-connect with educational and employment opportunities. The Knowledge of Self Institute: The K.O.S.I. is an adult Black History class for parents, community leaders, professionals, etc. that provides students with the opportunity to learn the contributions of Afrikan peoples globally to the development of civilization. This course is definitely worth the investment as students embark on a journey of affirmation, enlightenment, and empowerment through connecting with our glorious past.

The Uhuru Academy is registered with the state of Texas as a home school. Home schools do not receive accreditation. There are no agencies in the country that are authorized to accredit home schools. We are in accordance with the States guidelines and policies for graduating students with a high school diploma, utilizing the states home school laws. Furthermore, extensive research and consultation has been exercised by our staff and network in order to assure our academys legitimacy and authenticity. The Diploma is valid in all 50 states. Some private colleges, universities, and trade schools throughout the country may not accept all types of diploma (please research entrance requirements). Furthermore, some colleges may require entry testing before enrolling students into their institutions. Our programs operates by giving our students an examination and providing strength-based tutoring. Students must be at least 17 years of age for unconditional enrollment into our diploma program. Students who are 16 years of age must provide school withdrawal papers and court orders from judge. The Uhuru Academy staff will administer the exam. Once the student has successfully completed and mastered the exam components, he or she will be awarded his or her certified high school diploma and transcript within 4-6 business days. If student does not successfully master one or more components of the exam, he or she will be allowed to re-take only the components that were not mastered at NO CHARGE.

Tuition Protection and Enrollment Agreement Policy

Uhuru Academy accepts students without regard to race, creed, color, religion, cultural background, or national origin. Student must be 17 years of age for unconditional enrollment. If under 17, student provide verification of eighth grade completion, (withdrawal papers from last school) or (court ordered papers) NOTE: Please be advised that only students who have fundamental skills in reading, writing, and understanding English may be accepted for enrollment.

Due to constant changing policies and procedures of numerous colleges, universities, and trade schools, The Uhuru Academy makes no claims of the guaranteed acceptance of your high school diploma, without further testing by the institution of higher education. If you know which schools you would like to apply to upon graduation, it is your responsibility to call the institution to verify acceptance requirements. The Uhuru will submit any and all requested registration documents and/other documentation necessary to your school of choice for verification purposes. 3.
