Looking down the length of Hegenberger Road, one might expect the grand opening ribbon of the Oakland Airport Connector to be cut at any moment -- or at least by summers end. But as attendees at AABAs Economic Development Committee meeting of June 27th learned, well need to wait a little longer than that to see the first users glide down our commercial corridor and into Oakland International Airport.
Several Doppelmayr cable cars will be in service on the Connector, looping back and forth between BART and OAK. A car is expected to be either leaving BART or the Airport approximately every four minutes. The
Connector path will leave passengers traveling from BART at the foot of Terminal 1 to take a few short steps into the Airport. construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2013, another six to nine months will be spent on system testing of cars along the track before the Connector is open to the public sometime in 2014.

AABA welcomed Andrea Lowe of A Squared Ventures and Nathan Hood of BART to the meeting at One Toyota, where each described A rendering of the Oakland Airport Connectors progress made so far Oakland International Airport station. as well as what is to be expected in the coming months. Total cost of the Connector is $484 million. $219 million has so far been Notable Facts: expended. The project is considered on time and on budget. A detailed breakdown of 128,000 labor hours have been logged so sources of funding for the OAC can be found far on the project, most being accomplished at www.bart.gov/about/projects/oac/ by local service providers since work began in March 2011. The next step after column erection is guideway truss installation, that will occur at The ride aboard the Connector, from nightime, 9 pm to 5 am. Work on the Coliseum BART to the Airport, will take about Connector will occur around the clock during 8.5 minutes. With luggage loading and certain stretches of construction. unloading, the trip all told will be about 15 minutes. Connectors steel truss is being fabricated in Vancouver, WA and will arrive shortly. One can already see where the truss will be attached atop the concrete cantilevers erected along the Connectors path.
The BART
is working diligently to get word out to local businesses impacted by noise and traffic. Piledriving will be completed soon. BART will continue to advise the public about traffic delays and lane closures for project duration.
Conceptual of the OAC Coliseum Station. Construction has already started here as well as on the maintenance facility on Hegenberger at Pardee that will serve as the engine room for driverless OAC cars. An intermediary stop, should one come to be built, would most likely be located in the immediate vicinity of the maintenance facility site.
Mr.
Hood emphasized BARTs commitment to minimizing the impact to local commerce during construction of the OAC and offered the following contact information should issues of major concern arise throughout the process: (510) 464-6463 or oaklandirportconnector@bart.gov. As Oakland International Airport grows, the OAC will keep pace, accommodating up to 10,000 passengers a day and offering one more transit option for Bay Area travelers.

The OAC will dip underground into a tunnel structure at the intersection of Doolittle Drive and Airport Access Road to adhere to North Field runway flight clearance. Its anticipated that traffic at the intersection will be somewhat impacted for the next six months while the tunnel is constructed. An
intermediate stop at Pardee and Hegenberger is technically feasible. BART has allowed enough room for parking at the site, should a future stop be funded and constructed. Fare collection and elevators/escalators for public access could be added later for a projected $6 million in project costs.

Harley-Davidson Multi-Chamber Oakland Harley -Davidson Networking Mixer...It was a blast! Networking Mixer twor er...It was
That was the word from a smiling Rich Hennum of Star Protection Agency right after his Harley test drive at waters edge along Doolittle Drive. Arriving to the multi-chamber mixer at Oakland Harley-Davidson a little windblown, Rich confirmed his ride on a Harley Softail was the experience he hoped it would be. The networking mixer was co-hosted by AABA and Oaklands African-American Chamber, Chinatown Chamber, Hispanic Chamber, Metropolitan Chamber, Vietnamese Chamber, and Save Oakland Sports. See more photos of the Oakland Harley-Davidson event at http://coliseumscribbles.blogspot.com.
