Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What are the steps that I need to take before applying online? A1: Step 1: Fee payment: Download Bank Challan slip from the link on the home page. Make fee payment of correct denomination at any SBI branch. Obtain Candidates copy and ONGCs copy of the bank challan from the bank, duly receipted. Please make sure that the journal no given by the bank is clearly mentioned in the ONGCs copy of the Challan slip. No overwriting or tampering will be allowed. Step 2: Scan the following Documents: i. ii. iii. Scan your photograph (not more than 50 kb, jpg or jpeg format only) Scan your signature and (not more than 20 kb, jpg or jpeg format only) Scan ONGCs copy of the bank challan (not more than 100 kb, jpg or jpeg format only). Keep the soft copies of these documents handy before applying online. The online application requires applicants to upload these documents.

Q2. What is the fee amount that I am required to pay? A2. Fee details are mentioned in the detailed advertisement. Please read the advertisement carefully. Gen/OBC: Rs. 500 SC/ST/PWD: Rs. 100 Note: The candidature of applicants submitting fee of lesser amount or depositing fee through any mode other than the prescribed method, will be rejected

Q3. Do I need to submit my fee before applying? A3. While filling the online application, all candidates are required to provide details of their fee payment. These details include Journal No., Branch code etc. which will be provided by the bank after making the payment. It is therefore, important to make the fee payment before applying.

Q4. Are there any file size restrictions when uploading my documents online? A4. Yes. The scanned copy of the photograph should not be more than 50kb, the scanned copy of the signature should not be more than 20kb and the scanned copy of the Challan should not be more than 100 kb. Also the scanned copies should necessarily be in either jpeg or jpg format. Please also ensure that a recent passport size colour photograph with a white background is uploaded.

Q5. I am unable to upload the scanned copy of the photograph/ signature/ challan copy. A5. Check if the file type is .jpg or .jpeg. Any other file type will not be accepted. Also check if the file size is of the desired length. See A5. above for details.

Q6. Can I edit my information after submitting? A6. Once submitted, no part of the application form can be edited. Candidates are advised to maintain accuracy of information while applying and recheck before submitting online application.

Q7. I have by mistake entered incorrect data in my application. I need to correct it. A7. Data once entered cannot be edited. Care should therefore be taken that only correct information is entered in the application form. A PREVIEW button is given at the end of the page. Click on it to check that the data including scanned copy of the photograph/ signature/challan form is correct. In case you find that anything needs to be changed, click

on the EDIT button given at the end of the preview page to go back and make the necessary changes. Once you are sure that the information is in order, Click on SAVE AND SUBMIT to save the changes. Thereafter no further changes can be made in the application form.

Please note that once the data is saved any requests for change of mailing address, examination centre / category / discipline etc as declared in the online application, will not be entertained

Q8. Which documents do I need to send? A8. No documents are to be sent to us.

Q9. What are the modes of applying? A9. All applicants have to register online only and fill in their details in the online application form. A registration slip will be generated on successful registration. Take a printout of this registration slip and keep it in a safe place. An e-mail and an SMS will also be sent at the registered e-mail id as well as the mobile no intimating that you have registered your candidature. The candidate can also view his data by logging in using either a combination of his Registration ID and date of birth or email id and date of birth. After logging in he can also take a print out of his registration slip.

Q10. If I get more than one position preference, is it necessary to select all preferences? A10. It is necessary to fill in all the position preference columns. However, if you want to opt for only one position, the same can be filled in all the preference columns.

Q11. Do I need to upload my documents and send the same through post also? A11. No. You only need to upload your documents. No hard copies of the documents are to be sent through post.

Q12. How can I get to know the status of my application after submission? A12. Candidates can re-login into the system using either a combination of Registration ID and Date of Birth or a combination of Email ID and Date of Birth to know the status of their application.

Q13. What documents should I keep for future reference? A13. A copy of your registration slip, your admit card, and interview call letter (if applicable) needs to be maintained till the end of the recruitment process.

Q14. I am unable to choose a discipline of my choice. A14. Based on your age, essential qualification and other details the system is designed to give the disciplines for which you are eligible. In case it is not displaying the discipline of your choice, you have either entered incorrect data or you are not eligible for that particular discipline. Hence kindly fill in correct details and check the advertisement for eligibility.

Q15. I belong to SC/ST category. Can I apply for posts for which there is no vacancy under the reserved category e.g. for SC there is no vacancy in the disciplines of Civil, Finance & Accounts and Security. Similarly there is no vacancy for ST in the disciplines of Geophysics (Wells), E&T, Instrumentation, Civil and MM. A15. A candidate can apply for all posts for which he is eligible. In case there is no vacancy for him in either of the reserved category he can still apply provided he meets the eligibility criteria. However for such disciplines he shall be treated as a General category candidate. Thus no relaxation in age shall be provided to him for this discipline. Also he shall be considered for interview/ final selection as per the General Category merit and not as per SC or ST category merit.
