Human Rights Education: One Day Workshop

Human Rights in the Workplace - Workshop Overview
1The objective of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission's human rights education workshop is to promote human rights in an employment setting. The day-long workshop provides an opportunity for individuals to explore issues of diversity and discrimination, and to better understand them within the context of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act. The cost is $150.00 per person per day, plus tax. Sessions are planned to allow for flexibility, small group discussions and interaction among participants and facilitators . Experience, reflection, thinking and doing are part of each workshop as individuals apply their experiences to the day. Acknowledging diversity in learning styles, the workshop incorporates a variety of activities to ensure inclusive participant engagement. The workshop offers group task development and acknowledgement of participants’ life experiences as a method of engagement. At the end of the day participants will have:  an overview of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act  our perspective on discrimination and harassment in the workplace  support in developing and evaluating effective human rights policies for their workplace  an opportunity for personal reflection on issues such as; privilege, culture, harassment, and their impact in the workplace. Comments from past participants demonstrate their satisfaction with the workshop. 1“I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to partake in this training. I feel I have learned and will continue to learn and be open-minded and more aware and sensitive to all areas of diversity.” 1“This training was a great experience and it is training that I will pass on to my co-workers, friends and family about respecting and treating everyone as individuals. Thank you.” 1If you would like more information and are interested in a workshop, please contact Melissa Brayley, Race Relations, Equity and Inclusion, Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, at 902-424-4971 or brayleym@gov.ns.ca.
