SCA | Markets and brands
Making a difference everyday, everywhere
At SCA, product development is based on proactive dialogue with consumers, customers and business partners to ensure that our products and operations make a difference for both people and nature. With some 60 product brands, about 37,000 employees and production facilities in 40 countries, SCA provides industry leadership and inspiration for people across the globe. Two brands stand out on the international arena: TENA, world leading in incontinence care, and Tork hygiene concepts that include dispensers and washroom solutions for companies and institutions. SCA’s forest-based operations span the entire lifecycle – from tree seedlings and pulp to publication papers and solid-wood products. The net amount of CO2 absorbed by SCA’s forests is equivalent to the emissions generated by all of the Group’s production.
”Our shared values are instrumental in conducting responsible operations,” says Jan Johansson, President and CEO. ”Wherever I meet SCA employees, they share my belief.”

Business Area | Forest Products
From tiny seedling to print power
SCA’s forests have been part of the global lifecycle for centuries. As Europe’s largest private forest owner, SCA assumes the responsibility as a caretaker for current and future generations. For every tree we harvest, three new ones are put in its place. Our responsibly managed forests fulfil the demanding criteria for certification according to the Forest Stewardship Council, FSC, and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes, PEFC. SCA is the world’s largest supplier of FSC-certified products. In addition to pulp, publication papers and kraftliner, SCA offers solid-wood products for building construction and furniture manufacturing. Forest-based biofuels, such as wood pellets, and wind power, are also important parts of SCA’s forest business. PowerPot, SCA’s new tree seedling, is only half the size of conventional seedlings, meaning that twice as many can fit in each tray. This reduces transportation costs and enables forest workers to carry more seedlings when carrying out planting work. The innovative heart of SCA’s forest operations is the Sundsvall R&D Centre in Sweden. Through further processing and customisation, our forest-based product offerings are progressing up the value chain. Integration of our own wood raw material is also a key aspect of the overall business strategy of the SCA Group.
A s mall green revolution
”At SCA, we’re continuously balancing efficient production of valuable and renewable wood raw material with preserving biodiversity and other values. The forests we leave for future generations shall be as rich in timber, biodiversity and opportunities to enjoy nature,” says Merle Hämäläinen.

SCA | Sustainability
Creating value for people and nature
Sustainability has long been embedded in SCA’s way of working. It is the SCA business model for creating value for people and nature – value that benefits our customers and consumers, employees and shareholders, as well as the environment and the communities we serve. Establishing targets and following up results is a key part of SCA’s sustainability work. The aim of our 11 sustainability targets is to measure the contribution made by a number of programs to social and environmental responsibility. From the perspective of people, this includes implementing strong health and safety standards, improving awareness of and access to better hygiene solutions, raising supplier standards and ensuring that employees comply with to the requirements of the SCA Code of Conduct. From the perspective of nature, the targets monitor the manner in which SCA delivers sustainable solutions that ensure safe, resource-efficient and environmentally sound sourcing, production and development, thus providing added value for customers. It also encompasses the methods we use to minimise our impact on the environment and our contribution to combating climate change.
SCA is recognized as a global leader in sustainable development, and has received numerous sustainability industry awards.
