The Scoggins Report by Jason Scoggins & Cindy Kaplan August 20, 2012

2012 Spec Market Scorecard as of August 18, 2012
It’s broken record time again (alas, not in the Olympic Games sense): Compared to 2009 and 2010, 2012’s summer spec sales numbers have been solid. True, July 2012 ended up significantly under last July’s monster total (6 vs 10), but it doesn’t matter: Overall spec sales are up 13% year over year (85 vs 75). In keeping with our summer routine, we’ll dispense with the bullet points and get straight to the grids. Enjoy.

2012 Overall Numbers
The first grid below shows numbers for this year’s Spec Market (that is, sales of scripts that originally went out this year). In addition, 21 scripts have sold this year that originally went out prior to 2012. Here are the spec sales numbers through August 18 on their own...

About The Scoggins Report: The Scoggins Report is a terribly unscientific analysis of the feature film development business based on information assembled from a variety of public and non-public sources. The numbers in the reports are by no means official statistics. Caveat emptor. Molṑn labé.
