The Web Workspace in Oracles EPM System, provides a single browser-based point of entry for users, with single sign-on, contextual navigation and the ability to personalize the interface based on the users role and information needs. The latest release of the EPM Workspace extends its capabilities to OBIEE and Oracle BI Publisher so that this interface now spans all solutions in the EPM System.

Smart View for Office is Oracles common MS Office interface to the EPM System. This release includes new adhoc and formatted reporting capabilities for MS Excel, and extends this capability to OBIEE as a data source. So users can access all of their BI and Performance Management information in a single MS office interface.

This release of Smart View also provides the ability to create personalized data slices or Smart Slices. This provides the ability for users to filter views from different sources, providing more efficient analysis capabilities. More detail: As analytic and financial databases grow in size (in respect to both dimensionality and scope of data), it is important to provide users with a better set of tools to focus in directly on the data and type of analysis they need. In the 11.1.1.0.0 release, Smart View provides the ability for admin users to model supported data sources through the Smart Slice modeling interface. This lets an admin user determine the specific dimensionality and preferences they will make available to end users who desire this when working with a data source.

EPM Gadgets:

Last year, Oracle introduced Smart Space, a set of Windows-based gadgets that can expose BI content or applications functionality to users via light-weight desktop gadgets that can be personalized based on the role and interests of the user. The Fusion Edition release includes a number of UI enhancements, and new Essbase gadgets exposing additional functionality to this interface. Foundation Services Enhancements:

Common User Provisioning Common Application Administration New Common Calculation Manager New - Common Installation and Configuration New - Common Lifecycle Management

Oracles EPM System includes a number of common Foundation Services that support a single point of administration across multiple modules. Examples include Common User Provisioning, and Common Application Administration offered via the EPM Architect module. This release includes a number of new Common Services including: Common Calculation Manager a new feature of EPM Architect that provides a graphical interface for defining business rules and calculations across planning and financial consolidation applications. Common Installation and Configuration single interface for installing the EPM System and each of the modules. This reduces the number of installation panels from almost 300 to less than 10 and will simplify and speed the installation and configuration process Common Lifecycle Management new functionality for managing the deployment and migration of applications between development, test and production environments. All of these new services are designed to lower the cost of administration and ownership of the EPM System, and support broader deployments. Calculation Manager is a new module of Oracle Hyperion EPM Architect, Fusion Edition that you use to design, validate, and administer Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, Fusion Edition and Oracle Hyperion Planning, Fusion Edition business rules within a graphical environment. You design business rules by dragging and dropping components (including formulas, scripts, conditions, ranges, and loops) into a flow chart of the business rule. The flow chart enables you to move amongst and view the business rules components by selecting them. After you select a component, you can view and modify its properties in tabs below the flow chart. Working with business rules and their components in a flow chart reduces the time you spend designing and maintaining them. Calculation Manager also contains system templates that can be used in business rules to perform calculations that, for example, allocate, aggregate, copy, and clear data. You can also create user-defined templates using components and other templates. System

Hyperion System 11 Enhancements and user-defined templates enable users to reuse complex calculations in business rules without having to recreate the calculations each time they want to use them. If you have several business rules you want to launch as a group, you can create a business ruleset for them. The business ruleset can contain business rules and other business rulesets that can be launched sequentially or simultaneously. After you design and validate business rulesets and business rules, you deploy them individually or as part of a full application deployment to Financial Management and Planning. If you create shortcuts to a business rule, it can be shared across, and deployed to, multiple applications, in addition to the application for which you designed it. Then users can launch the deployed rules from data forms or launch them independently from a Web browser.

Hyperion System 11 Enhancements Lifecycle Management (LCM) provides a consistent way for Hyperion administrators to migrate applications and artifacts across product environments. The LCM graphical interface is provided with Oracle's Hyperion Shared Services Console. LCM also provides a command-line interface. General Essbase Enhancements:

This release includes a number of general enhancements to Oracle Essbase. Here are a few key examples: Varying Attributes: Until now, Oracle Essbase has been able to store and calculate measures by attributes, for example a product might have a Package Type attribute that specifies what the packaging is for the product. This enables you to report on the profit for different package types. However, there are many cases where attributes change over a dimension such as time, or even multiple dimensions. For example, product packaging could vary over time, and over geographical markets. Essbase can now store attributes that vary over multiple dimensions, and calculate measures over the varying attributes. For example, if you create a report that shows the Profit per package type, it will be calculated according to the changing attributes. This means that a product that was packaged in 16 ounces in January, but in May changed to a package type of 20 ounces, will contribute to the package group where it belonged at the time. In addition to calculating according to the actual attribute assignments, Essbase can also calculate "as was", for example calculate the profit for the different Package type as if the assignments were at a certain point. This is setting the "perspective", essentially ignoring the change in attributes. This can be useful if you are trying to understand how things would look if the changes to the Syntelli Solutions Inc. 8 Confidential

Hyperion System 11 Enhancements attributes didn't happen. For example, to understand what would have happened if the product packaging didn't change, but instead stayed as it was in January. In addition to calculating over a varying attribute, Essbase can also perform member selections based on a changing attribute, such as "give me all the products that had a package type of 32 ounces in April. Typed Measures: Typed measures extend the analytical capabilities of Essbase beyond numerical data to text-based content. Storage and analysis of textual content can be useful when a cell needs to have one of a finite list of textual values; for example, a product may be sold in 5 different colors. The color is a typed measure whose value must be one of the 5 colors. Oracle Essbase Studio simplifies cube construction by delivering a single environment for performing tasks related to data modeling, cube designing, and analytic application construction. By consolidating cube construction activities into one interface, Studio provides a consistent platform for building outlines and loading data. With a wizard-driven user interface, Studio supports modeling various data source types from which Oracle Essbase applications are typically built, making it a single point from which all cube-related data modeling can be performed. A common metadata repository, or catalog, captures all metadata related to all Oracle Essbase applications built in the enterprise and allows the reuse of metadata at the lowest level of granularity. The catalog gives Studio knowledge of the common metadata that is shared across the various applications enterprise-wide. This knowledge is leveraged in supporting drill across, wherein shared context is passed from one analytic application to another to ensure a seamless transition during the analysis process. Studio supports several drill-through options such as relational databases, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition, URLs, custom SQL, and Java methods. Drillthrough functionality is supported from data cells and member cells and is dynamically linked to cubes with matching metadata context. Oracle Essbase Studio also supports lineage tracking through a rich graphical view of the metadata relationships, allowing users to follow application lineages to their metadata components and through to the data sources from which they were sourced. This interface assumes much of the functionality of the EAS and EIS interfaces, which are still supported.

Annotations: A comprehensive set of annotation functionality which enables users to freely collaborate, save facts and findings in their reports, and have access to the tools to readily manage annotations across their systems. This commentary is available interactively through the EPM Workspace, is equally accessible through printed output and provides a unified read-only mechanism for the Hyperion Financial Management, Hyperion Planning and Hyperion Essbase commentary (for example, Cell Text, Linked Reporting Object, Cell File Attachments, and so on).

Rank function enhancement: The Rank function has been enhanced to support a new parameter enabling a report designer to indicate how the rank function deals with equivalent values; equal ranking or a unique ranking based on first-come, first-ranked basis. Adding external files to books: In addition to adding reports and snapshot reports, a book can now include PDF files, text files, and Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint or Word files. These documents are listed in the Book Table of Contents and can either be launched from the Table of Contents or included in the Book PDF output.

Dynamic row and column references: Instead of selecting members from the report to define calculations and formatting, you can select a row or column reference (similar to Excel) and the formatting is applied regardless of the member selection. Microsoft Office and Smart View: Import multiple objects in a report into Smart View. The following functionality is now supported: Import multiple report objects into Excel in the same or separate worksheets, Import an image of the report screen to Word or PowerPoint.
