H3Z 1A4 In 2011, Dawson College and Cgep du Vieux Montral were awarded a grant from ducation Montreal to study the feasibility of creating a Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education (CIEE). Dawson College and Cgep du Vieux-Montral are the two largest colleges in the province of Quebec. Dawson College is situated in the heart of Montreals downtown core. Positioned adjacent to the Pepsi Forum, Dawson is Quebecs largest CEGEP with roughly 8000 fulltime day students, 2000 continuing education students and 600 faculty members. The college currently offers over thirty different programs with a variety of programs in the creative sector. The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education (CIEE) is a mandate stemming from the colleges Academic Dean. It will initially provide the training, resources, networks and mentors to the student body and faculty in order to develop an entrepreneurial culture. It will then house an arts and culture incubator in an off-campus facility. The CIEEs incubator will be a site for graduates looking to develop innovative and entrepreneurial products and/or services. This center will help aspiring entrepreneurs develop entrepreneurial traits including innovation, intuition, risk taking propensity and autonomy. The center will also accompany them with their big idea: how they can analyze the market, develop a marketing plan, a service/product plan, funding structure and deal structure. It will also address risk assessment and how to handle failure. Along with these skills, entrepreneurs will learn how to prepare a detailed business plan and how to pitch their idea to venture capitalists, angel investors and/or seek out other potential funding sources. The Centre is currently managed by one individual who is working on building capacity over the next few years in order to open the incubator section by 2014. At the same time, the CIEE will take the first steps in promoting an entrepreneurial culture by hosting several events within the college. Activities planned for an event in the fall of 2012 will also serve to connect the partner colleges to successful entrepreneurs, businesses, training and support organizations and governments. The ultimate goal is to solidify partnerships after the event that will help the colleges in their fundraising efforts. One of many important mobilizing events will be the development is Dawsons Entrepreneurship Week event November 12-15th, 2012 during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Global Entrepreneurship Week is the worlds largest celebration of the innovators and job creators, who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare. During one week each November, GEW inspires people everywhere through local, national and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators. These activities, from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings, connect participants to potential collaborators, mentors and even investorsintroducing them to new possibilities and exciting opportunities1.
