INTRODUCTION STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Water is the gift of life. The impact water has in everyday life is becoming more apparent today. With the frequent disruption to the supply of potable water to homes, everyday life can become somewhat inconvenient, annoying not to mention the least. Long stretches of old-age, large pipes frequent the supply disruption. Compounded by the everincreasing pipeline network complexity, due to frequent addition of pipes for new consumers, the problem seems endless. A thorough planning is required in order to guarantee a non-disruptive and adequate water supply to the consumers. By mapping-out the pipeline network schematically, a much more reliable computation and analysis on the supply can be made out. Perhaps a water distribution scheduling can be put into operative to better serve the public. This requires the need for a computational analysis on the water supply pipeline network problem to better understand the supply behaviour.

AIM OF THE PROJECT The project is to produce a schematic computational layout of water supply network problem for a local housing area nearby, in the city of Ipoh. Analysis can them be made through what-if conditions and iteration process on the specified conditions. The three objectives are; 1.2.1 Objective One To schematically tabulate the related pipeline network data for a chosen housing estate. 1.2.2 Objective Two To compute the water supply delivery efficiency of the pipeline network from the obtained data using MS Excel 2007 computational capability. 1.2.3 Objective Three To use MS Excel 2007 what-if conditions and iteration process in the analysis of new water supply demand and additional pipeline.

1.3

THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT The project is centred on the use of MS Excel 2007 as a tool or aid to speed up and address recurring calculations. The what-if-analysis scenario is to be incorporated into the schematic calculation layout of the produced spreadsheet. The limitations are; 1.3.1 Normally-used MS Excel 2007 commands and functions are to be employed,

Published data from the respective authorities are to be used in strict confidence and for the purpose of modelling the pipeline network of the considered area only, The resulting computations shall not be the basis for input in any actual project work carried out by the any governmental authorities or otherwise, and The assumptions used in deriving at the final computational output may not be in accordance with the published manuals or data, and as such treated as a pure exercise in obtaining the computational modelling.
