Lesson Plan - Science 6 Primary

The lessons took place on 14th and 21st November. It was a summary of the lessons cycle connected with the “Decalogue on Rational Use of Resources”, which pupils learnt by heart in Polish language. They were also encouraged to know better their locality and find out how to protect it for the next generations. Topic: The landscape of the nearest region (2 x 45minutes) The main objective: knowing the elements of the nearest region and the changes that are made because of human’s activity The educational objectives: Pupils can: - name the elements of the landscape - describe the environment on the grounds of observation - name animals and plants - make a sketch, topographical map - use a compass in the area - describe the housing diversification - describe the diversification of the ground exploitation - define the location of the village where they live on the map of Poland and on the map of the district - compare the region landscape with other landscapes (for example-city landscape) Methods: mental maps, outdoor lesson The lesson stages: 1. Introducing stage – outdoor lesson Preparing to the lesson, welcoming, giving and explaining the aim and the activities of the lesson. Dividing pupils into 5 groups and giving them compasses and region maps. Describing the topic of each group activity: I group – natural elements of the landscape II group – unnatural elements of the landscape III group – location of the village on the map in comparison with main rivers IV group – literature: region legends, statistical data, monuments, traditions, customs, famous Polishmen V group – endanger and protection of the environment in locality (wild rubbish dumps, other dangers, objects under protection)

Lesson Plan - Science 6 Primary 2. Practical stage – indoor lesson Writing down the lesson topic in notebooks. Oral presentation of the information gathered during outdoor lesson. 3. Filling the mental map prepared by the teacher. It includes: ecological education expressed by follwing problems: dependence of environment conditions on human activity, mechanism and effects of unwanted changes, developing the environment sensitivity; regional education: cultural heritage in region, spotting cultural advantages of the region, well known legends, landmarks, etc.; medial education: using different kinds of media in finding information, self-searching for the information; healthy education: knowing the danger come from the civilization, distinguishing positive and negative circumstances that influence the environment (clean water, healthy food, ecological farming) 4. Homework Pupils answer the question: How do we get rid of sewages in our locality? By drawing, writing or taking picutres. 5. Ending of the lesson, short discussion about the lesson, assesment of the pupils skills.
