Heartfelt moments of admiration were enjoyed by Americans in our nation these last weeks: the long-standing tradition of the Olympics and the 40th Republican Convention. “Complete dedication” is the theme for both. Athletes strove to achieve their goals and swell American pride. My head was raised high with celebration hearing their American stories and so many competitors from other nations saying they love the USA and thanking our citizens for cheering and following them online. The Sprinter Kirani James had won Grenada’s rst-ever Olympic gold medal in the men's 400-meters. In his interview with the USA reporter immediately after the race, he said he loved America. He mentioned how wonderful President Reagan was and noted the date of October 25, 1983 when Reagan saved Grenada. He said October 25th is their Thanksgiving celebration. The convention had overtones of family values, virtue, respect and conveyed excellence. Such optimism is a breath of fresh air compared to the mood in the country and the current leadership. America has a solid, brilliant leadership choice with the Romney/Ryan ticket. Speakers rocked the event and really revved the audience and us, I am certain. The fact that several speeches were not aired by the liberal stations covering the convention shows arrogance and a blatant disregard for the truth. No wonder we had so many people locally change their registrations and new voters sign up at the fair this year. They are also tired of being lied to! One can only take so much hype, smoke and mirrors plus that ever-thinning wallet. As Clint Eastwood said, “We own this country”! Let’s work hard and pray that Romney/Ryan “Make Our Day” on November 6th!

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Emken has called on Dianne Feinstein to take part in a series of regional debates. Each debate would focus on issues of local importance, such as national defense and the military in San Diego and water issues in Fresno, and would be moderated by local media. The last time Feinstein faced the music in a public debate forum was against then-Congressman Tom Campbell in October 2000. Let’s step into the Way Back Machine and see how much the world has changed since then. In October 2000: Bill Clinton was President Gray Davis was governor of California Saddam Hussain was running Iraq Most Americans had never heard of Osama bin Laden Most Americans had never heard of Barack Obama, either The World Trade Center towers dominated the Manhattan skyline No one had ever seen a Harry Potter movie No one had ever followed or friended anyone on Twitter or Facebook No one had ever used an iPod, iPhone or iPad Unemployment was…only 3.9% The federal debt was…only $5.7 trillion Gas was…only $1.79 a gallon

The world has changed. Dianne Feinstein hasn’t. It’s time for a fresh look at who should be our United States Senator. Let’s start with a debate.
Call Feinstein at (202) 224-3841 or (415) 393-0707 and tell her we demand a debate.

‘Freedom and Our Constitution’

Food for Thought
While we, as Republican Women, admire and love being called Americans, our nation is rapidly drifting from its biblical foundations. Our freedom to serve and worship God is often challenged by groups such as the ACLU. We are engaged in a great spiritual battle that threatens our families and our freedom of religion. Only divine intervention will return America to a nation continuing to receive the Creator's blessings.

Humboldt Republican Women Welcome
As we watch our great nation make a huge decision on who shall lead us forward, many have felt our Constitution and the freedoms it protects are continually under attack. Gary K. Gundlach, a homegrown grassroots patriot, will present to us his great appreciation of the Second Amendment and the Constitution as a whole. He includes in his repertoire: research of a Constitutional scholar, reading quotes from our Founding Fathers, the Constitution, historical documents and current court cases which have rea rmed his belief in the Second Amendment as a valuable foundation of our freedoms. Mr. Gundlach was born in Scotia, graduated from Eureka High School, received his BA in Journalism and Master’s degree in Business Administration. Gary is a husband and father, married to Shawn for 39 years, and they have 3 children. He is a senior estimator for Barry Smith Construction in Eureka. He was co-chairman for Relay of Life this last year and he will be the event chairman for the next 2 years. As a member of Fortuna Sunrise Rotary, he is Past President and a Paul Harris Fellow. He is a life member of the National Ri e Association and a member of Heritage Association of America. Gary has a strong respect for, and derives great enjoyment from, the use of rearms. Since the age of 10, Gary has been hunting and shooting. He has sold rearms and, in doing so, has spoken to many people who appreciate the freedom to purchase them for self-defense. Mr. Gundlach is an alternate to the Humboldt County Republican Central Committee and a frequent visitor to our monthly luncheons, so please join us on September 20th to hear his presentation. As the late Charlton Heston said, “…as it relates to other amendments in the Bill of Rights, the Second Amendment should be the FIRST,as it gives us the freedom to defend the others.”

Gary Gundlach

Our Founding Fathers knew the power and purpose of prayer. From America's beginning, many have prayed us through times of tragedy and war. I believe it is time to go back and heed that very familiar promise from II Chronicles 7:14: "If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, than I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."

Ways & Means

It’s election season which means our state legislature is busy pandering our rights away, spending money we don’t have, and trying to con scate our guns. Well, if you think about it, the scoundrels have to make sure they aren’t the object of the target practice! But to give credit where credit is due, Senator Evans, and Assemblymen Chesbro and Hu man voted no on the Anti-Hounds for Hunting Bear and Bobcat bill. For that, they deserve our thanks, but the bill is still alive! Your voice needs to be heard. Listed below are 5 bills that jumped out at me (there are so many more) but these are pending critical votes. You’ll see the bill number, the author, how our elected representative voted, its history, a call to action and the language of the bill.

Legislation Alert

was passed by the Assembly and will go back to the Senate oor for a concurrence vote, due to amendments that have been added since the Senate’s initial passage of the bill. Assuming concurrence by the Senate, the bill will then go to the desk of Gov. Jerry Brown who will have to decide whether to sign it into law. Rural hunters ghting for their rights. Humboldt county does not support this.

ACTION: Call ALL State Senators to vote NO
ACTUAL TEXT: AUTHOR(S): Senator Yee TOPIC: Assault Weapons As De ned by Detachable Magazines VOTES: 07/14/11, Assemblymen Chesbro & Hu man, yes. 48 ayes, 21 noes, pass. 05/05/11, Senator Evans, yes. 30 ayes, 9 noes, pass. HISTORY: 08/07/12 Held in the Appropriations Committee and as of 8/16/12 the hearing was postponed. Bill still active. ACTUAL TEXT: Existing law, with certain exceptions, prohibits the possession of an assault weapon, as de ned, and makes violations subject to criminal penalties. Existing law de nes a rearm as an assault weapon, in part, based upon whether it has a detachable magazine. This bill would de ne “detachable magazine” for this purpose to mean any ammunition feeding device that can be removed from the rearm without disassembly of the rearm action, and to include a magazine that may be detached from the rearm by depressing a button on the rearm either with the nger or by use of a tool or a bullet. The bill would declare that these amendments are declaratory of existing law, would direct the Attorney General to adopt regulations, and would make these amendments operative July 1, 2013. By expanding the de nition of existing crimes, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program. ACTION: CALL EVANS, HUFFMAN & CHESBRO to vote NO AUTHOR(S): Perea TOPIC: High-Speed Rail Authority VOTES: 06/02/12, Assemblymen Chesbro & Hu man, yes. 57 ayes, 19 noes, pass. HISTORY: 08/22/12 From inactive le. Ordered to second reading. Read second time and amended. ACTUAL TEXT: Existing law creates the High-Speed Rail Authority with speci ed powers and duties relating to the development and implementation of an intercity high-speed rail system. Existing law, pursuant to the Safe, Reliable High-Speed Passenger Train Bond Act for the 21st Century, authorizes $9.95 billion in general obligation bonds for high-speed rail development and other related purposes. The federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides funding for allocation nationally to high-speed rail projects. This bill would require the authority to make every e ort to purchase high-speed train rolling stock and related equipment that are manufactured in California, consistent with federal and state laws. This bill would also state that it does not create a private right of action in any civil litigation, what does that mean? ACTION: Call Evans to vote YES, but kill the High-Speed Rail project.

THEY ARE LISTED IN ORDER OF URGENCY!! Let’s get to the phones, ladies (and gentlemen)!
AUTHOR(S): Pan, Senator Wolk, Fuentes TOPIC: Communicable disease: immunization exemption VOTES: 8-22-12, Senator Evans, yes. 22 ayes, 14 noes, pass, 5-10-12, Assemblymen Chesbro & Hu man, yes. 47 ayes, 26 noes, pass. HISTORY: 08/22/2012 Senate read third time. Passed Ayes 22. Noes 14. Ordered back to the Assembly. Introduced by Assemblyman Pan and seeks to take away a parent's right to opt out of vaccinations. This bill requires parents who would like to opt of out vaccines to ll out a form that requires a healthcare o cial's signature to do so. This makes it more di cult for parents to opt out of vaccines for their children. This bill passed o the Senate oor August 22nd. The Assembly will probably vote on it any day. If the Assembly passes it, we can call the Governor not to sign it.

ACTUAL TEXT: Existing law prohibits the governing authority of a school or other institution from unconditionally admitting any person as a pupil of any private or public elementary or secondary school, child care center, day nursery, nursery school, family day care home, or development center, unless prior to his or her rst admission to that institution, he or she has been fully immunized against various diseases, as speci ed. Existing law exempts a person from the above-described immunization requirement if the parent or guardian or other speci ed persons le with the governing authority a letter or a davit stating that the immunization is contrary to his or her beliefs. This bill would instead require this letter or a davit to document which required immunizations have been given, and which have not been given, on the basis that they are contrary to the parent or guardian’s or other speci ed person’s beliefs. The bill would require, on and after January 1, 2014, the letter or a davit to be accompanied by a form prescribed by the State Department of Public Health that includes assigned attestation from a health care practitioner, as de ned, that indicates that the health care practitioner provided the parent or guardian of the person, the adult who has assumed responsibility for the care and custody of the person, or the person, if an emancipated minor, who is subject to the immunization requirements with information regarding the bene ts and risks of the immunization and the health risks of speci ed communicable diseases. The bill would require the form to include a written statement by the parent, guardian, other speci ed persons, or person, if an emancipated minor, that indicates that he or she received the information from the health care practitioner. AUTHOR(S): Lieu, Senator Steinber. TOPIC: Mammals: use of dogs to pursue bears and bobcats. VOTES: 8/22/12, Assemblymen Chesbro & Hu man, no. 46 ayes, 30 noes, Pass. 5/10/12, Senator Evans no. 22 ayes, 15 noes, Pass. HISTORY: 08/22/2012 Senate Passed, Ayes 46. Noes 30. Concurrence in Assembly amendments pending. Read third time. Introduced by Senator Lieu, Prohibits the use of hounds in the hunting pursuit of bears and bobcats. The bill

Chesbro’s Bill. This bill is little more than pandering to winegrowers and breweries. Look for campaign contributions in his nance reports from the wine, grape or micro-brewery industry. All this bill does is allow for education on how beer and wine is made on premise.

As good Christians, we need to pray for Pres. Obama -in particular, Psalm 109:8--"Let his days be few and brief; And let others step forward to replace him." ------------The lame-stream media keep desperately trying to convince voters that Mitt is simply 'unlikeable'... Here's our take:

Every year the California Federation of Republican Women makes recommendations on the ballot measures. This November there will be 11 propositions on the ballot.
■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ ■

Top Ten Reasons To Dislike Mitt Romney:
1. Drop-dead, Armani-ad handsome, with gracious, statesmanlike aura; looks like every central casting's #1 choice for Commander-in-Chief. 2. Been married to ONE woman his entire life, and has been faithful to her, including through her bouts with breast cancer and MS. 3. No scandals or skeletons in his closet. 4. Can't speak in a fake, southern, "black preacher voice" when necessary. 5. Highly intelligent. Graduated cum laude from both Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School ... and by the way, his academic records are NOT sealed. 6. Doesn't smoke or drink alcohol, and has never done drugs, not even in the counter-culture age when he went to college. 7. Represents an America of "yesterday," where people believed in God, went to Church, didn't screw around, worked hard, and became a SUCCESS! 8. Has a family of ve great sons....and none of them have police records or are in drug rehab. But, of course, they were raised by a stay-at-home mom, and that "choice" deserves America 's scorn. 9. Oh, yes.....he's a MORMON. We need to be very afraid of that very strange religion that teaches its members to be clean-living, patriotic, scally conservative, charitable, self-reliant, and honest. 10. And one more point.....pundits say because of his wealth, he can't relate to ordinary Americans. I guess that's because he made that money HIMSELF... opposed to marrying it or inheriting it from Dad. Apparently, he didn't understand that actually working at a job and earning your own money makes you uncool...

Prop 30: Governor Brown's Tax Increase- OPPOSE Prop 31: State Budget Amendments- NO POSITION Prop 32: Paycheck Protection- SUPPORT Prop 33: Auto Insurance Coverage- SUPPORT Prop 34: Death Penalty Elimination- OPPOSE Prop 35: Human Tra cking Penalties- SUPPORT Prop 36: Three Strikes Reform- OPPOSE Prop 37: Genetically Engineered Food Labels- OPPOSE Prop 38: Tax Increase for Education- OPPOSE Prop 39: Multi-state Business Tax for Clean Energy- OPPOSE Prop 40: Redistricting Senate Districts- SUPPORT

It is imperative that the Republican Women get out the vote this election. While everyone is so excited about our Romney/Ryan ticket, we don’t want voters to overlook these important propositions that will have serious implications for California. The Republican Women are informed voters, while the majority of other Californian voters are not. How else can we explain Governor Brown… again? Republican Women must work to inform and educate California voters in all walks of life. We must expand our spheres of in uence and step out of our political comfort zones. It is time to politically engage people we wouldn’t have before- our mailmen, our grocers, our dentists, our friends, families and neighbors. This year is critical and we have a golden opportunity here in California to change our course. These positions made by the CFRW Voting Body are recommendations. Local Republican Women clubs are not bound by these positions. If you have any questions about any position, proposition, or the CFRW rationale, please email the CFRW Advocate at The Advocate can also speak to clubs at their meetings, explaining in detail each proposition. If you would like the CFRW Advocate to speak to your club, please email or call the Advocate’s o ce at (916) 442-4084. Now that Romney/Ryan is our o cial ticket, we must all join together and work hard for November! The election is closer than you think, so nd your local VICTORY o ce and get out the vote! It is what we Republican Women do best!

The number of Americans who consider themselves Republicans jumped nearly three points in August, the largest number of Republicans ever recorded by Rasmussen Report since monthly tracking began in November 2002. Rasmussen... More importantly, by a 4 point margin, more voters identify as GOP than Democrat. This is the largest spread between the parties ever. Worse for Democrats, the number of voters who identify with their party is also approaching an historic low.... It is a stunning reversal as Obama heads into reelection. - Breitbart
