KANATA NORTH NEWS Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North KNL MEETING ON LANDS NORTH OF THE BEAVER POND

Prior to construction starting on the lands north of the Beaver Pond, KNL is required to follow a communications strategy to inform the public and the Ward Councillor about their plans for the development. I have posted the strategy on my website for your information. One of the requirements states that If required, KNL Developments Inc., in conjunction with City staff, will host a meeting within the Ward, with notice provided in the local newspaper. This meeting will outline the details of the subdivision and highlight how it conforms to the Ontario Municipal Board approved plan of subdivision. I have requested that this meeting be held due to the strong public interest in these lands and it has been set for June 22nd, 7-9 pm at All Saints High School, 5115 Kanata Ave. This meeting is your opportunity to hear about what will be taking place on those lands, the approximate timing of activities and how it will impact on existing communities. KNL will present the information, following which there will be an opportunity to ask questions and make comments. City staff will be present to respond to issues relating to the City. This is not an opportunity to stop the development but rather to understand what will be happening and to ensure that it does not negatively impact existing communities. You can also raise questions on how blasting and construction will occur, about connecting links between communities, and what is being done to protect wildlife.

NEW MINTO DEVELOPMENTS IN MORGANS GRANT AND BRIARBROOK

Minto will present their plans for three new developments at the June 20th Ward Council meeting which will be held in the hall of St. John's Church, 325 Sandhill Road in Briarbrook. These are located on the lands just north of the church from Sandhill to March Road; on the vacant land west of the Shoppers Drug Mart and where the older house and warehouse is located on Flamborough. Minto will make their presentation at 7 pm. Residents will then have an opportunity to make their comments and suggestions. Formal approval of these developments will occur later this year and will take into account comments made at this meeting. Minto has also agreed to construct some sidewalks in Morgans Grant that have been requested by local schools so that students can walk safely to their school.

These are to be built along Flamborough (west side from Morgans Grant Way to Ipswich) and Halton (south side from Flamborough to Newcastle), filling in gaps in the existing sidewalk pattern.

BEAVERBROOK LIBRARY EXPANSION PLANS

At 8 pm on June 20th at the Ward Council Meeting, being held at St. Johns Church, 325 Sandhill in Briarbrook, staff from the Ottawa Public Library will present information about the expansion of the Beaverbrook Library to serve as the District Library for Kanata, Stittsville and West Carleton. That involves tripling its size and adding more features such as business services, meeting rooms, electronic facilities and expanded reference services. At this time we are finalizing the location and general structure for the library. Come and provide your comments and suggestions.
