The entertainment lineup for Canal Days 2012 is a mix of country and 70s and 80s rock‘n’roll starting on Sept. 13 with local country band, Six Strings. The Toast to the City on Thursday evening is going country with the theme “Little Town, Big Country.” Mark Wurst, Jenna Wurst and Tom McKee make up the intimate group for a down-home, little-bit-of-country-feel music. Friday night entertainment continues with the country theme when Nashville Crush takes the stage from 8 p.m. to midnight. The five-member band has been around for five years and has performed at some of the biggest clubs, festivals and fairs in the region. They have made a name for themselves as one of the best live bands presenting a perfect balance of country and rock for a crowd-pleasing stage show. Canal Days is bringing back Midnight Special for Saturday’s live rock‘n’roll performance. This year marks the group’s 30-year anniversary performing a magical musical journey doing 70s and 80s classic rock music. This premier group has opened for countless national headliners at fairs, theaters, festivals and theme parks around the country. The cool thing about Midnight Special is they continue to use all of the bands original vintage instruments and stage equipment, making theirs a very authentic 70s classic sound. Sunday after the Canal Days Parade, Hipnotix will perform on the main stage in the social tent from 3-6 p.m. The band is well known for its impeccable Journey, Foreigner and Pink Floyd medley’s but will change it up with Steeley Dan or traditional blues. Their music will keep the crowd alive until the very end of the Canal Days weekend.

Outside or in, detecting a natural gas leak s easy. A leaking pipeline might make a hissing sound you can HEAR. Or, you might SEE blowing dirt, bubbling water or an unusual area of dead vegetation. The familiar rotten-egg-like odor you associate with natural gas is added to help you SMELL a leak from a gas line or appliance.
This safety awareness message is brought to you by the natural gas member companies of the Ohio Gas Association.
Natural gas is clean, efficient and safe. Remember not to dig on your property without first calling Ohio Utilities Protection Service at 1-800-362-2764. And if you ever suspect a leak – walk away, right away. Once clear of the area, call your natural gas company or 9-1-1.
This safety awareness message is brought to you by the natural gas member companies of the Ohio Gas Association.

Hohlbein 2012 Canal Days Queen
BY NANCY SPENCER firstname.lastname@example.org
September 2012 • The Delphos Herald • Canal Days – 11
DELPHOS — Jefferson senior Whitney Hohlbein is the 2012 Canal Days Queen. Hohlbein was crowned by 2011 Canal Days Queen Chelsea Wellmann Sunday evening during the annual pageant. Hohlbein will reign over the upcoming festivities that begin Thursday with the annual Toast to the City at 6 p.m. Hohlbein is excited to receive the honor and looking forward to her duties. “I wanted to make new friends and expand the relationship between the contestants from each school and I think that happened,” Hohlbein said this morning. “I can’t wait to be a bigger part of the Canal Days activities.” The daughter of Darrin and Tracy Hohlbein hopes to encourage more girls to participate in the pageant in the future and also to help more in their community. “This was a great experience and a great way to earn a scholarship,” she said. “I hope to compete in more pageants.” Other winners included first runner-up Jefferson senior Corinne Metzger; second runnerup Jefferson senior Destiny Thompson; third runner-up St. John’s senior Jessica Recker; and fourth runner-up/Miss Congeniality St. John’s senior Allie Youngpeter. Hohlbein was also the “People’s Choice” winner. Megan Joseph was the top ticket seller. See the queen and her court on page 13.
