School Uniform
Board Policy #401 – Amended 3/12/08, cites: “the Superintendent shall adopt a school uniform policy that is consistent among all public schools.” (This was also noted in our Student – Parent Handbook.) In keeping with the policies derived from the Guam Educational Policy Board, this administration is therefore requiring that all AsTumbo Elementary School students wear the school uniforms effective September 24, 2012. For your convenience, our PTO has decided to sell our school uniforms. Sales of uniforms will be conducted every Friday after 2:30 p.m. Please make arrangements with any of our PTO Officer or you may call the office for more info.

We would like to announce to all our AsTumbo Elem. community that we will be starting our DEED Program on Monday – 8/27/12. Registration fee is $100.00 per quarter. Registration forms are available at the office. Registration fee must be paid before any student(s) starts DEED. Payments can be made at the any of the Bank of Guam branches. Completed Registration Forms must be presented to Bank of Guam when making any payments. If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren), you will need to complete a registration form, and provide all required documents. If you have any questions or need more info, please call or see Ms. Villanueva or Mrs. Frias after 2:15 p.m. in the main office.

We are happy to announce that AsTumbo Elementary School will be participating with the Box Tops for Education Program. This program helps to purchase supplies needed in the classroom. These box tops are found in products like Cheerios®, Hamburger Helper® and Kleenex® - everyday items that we purchase at our local grocery store(s). Just look for the logo on the packages. Each box top is worth 10¢ for our school. We are therefore seeking the help of our students, parents/guardians and communities to support our school by forwarding these box tops to the school – via homeroom teacher. Simply clip the box tops of the item(s) purchased – ensure that the logo cited above is visible, and forward it to the school. Mrs. Jamero is seeking the support of all parents and guardians on the following: 1. Submit and/or update their child’s Emergency Card. 2. Submit any allergy notice with an updated doctor’s certificate. This will greatly assist her on promptly calling parents when students are sick or when there is an emergency. At times, we seek the assistance of our Mayor’s Office, Social Worker and/or Guam Police Department to locate parents. This causes a delay with any needed assistance to your child and/or communication with you. Your attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Visitors on Campus
We would like to remind all our AsTumbo Elementary School’s parents and/or guardians, we are requiring that all visitors sign in at the Main Office – please see Student-Parent Handbook. A Visitor’s Pass is needed, even if you are to escort your child(ren) to the cafeteria and/or classroom. An identification card (ID) is necessary to obtain a visitor’s pass. Your ID will be held until you return the visitor’s pass. The Guam Police Department will be called upon to assist when any visitor(s) refuses to adhere to these procedures. This procedure is necessary to account for every person on campus and to ensure the safety for all our students, faculty and staff members. Note: Classroom visits are by appointments only with the classroom teacher. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office. Thank you for your understanding.

Book Mobile Visit!!
We are also happy to announce that the Nieves Flores Memorial Library’s Book Mobile will be visiting our school. This Book Mobile will allow our students to check out books to read, read, and read!! If your child(ren) does not have a Nieves Flores Library Card, application forms will be given out to your child during our Book Mobile orientation. Please complete these forms and promptly return it back to your child’s homeroom teacher. Orientation and visits will commence on 10/2012. Schedules will be forwarded via this newsletter.

Professional Development Day
We would like to advise all our parents/guardians that we will not have any classes on 9/21/12. This is for our Professional Development Day. Classes will resume on 9/24/12.

We would like to remind all our students, parents and guardians that we will be holding our first PTO Meeting on 9/26/12 at 6:00 p.m. in our school cafeteria. Please come and share the joy of watching our students perform. Important information will be discussed. Any help with the PTO will benefit all our students.

Updated DOE Calendar
I had made a mistake on imputing our District’s calendar. An updated calendar is available at the back of this newsletter. Please disregard the calendar in your child’s planner and school handbook. Thank you for your understanding.
