As the law reqnires two copies of each public~tionwhose title is entered to be deposited upon public~rt.ion, the net adclitions to the collections during the year were spprosimately 29,125, of which 10,129 wero
books and 6,097 periodimls. It should be observed that of some classes
of entries (as dramatic compositious unpublished and designs for work8
of art) many are not deposited, or only one copy is received, while theru
are always many copyright eutries not completed by publication, as well
as reuewals of copyright where no re-pnblioetion takes place the samo
year. There are also numerous entries in each year where the pnbliw.
tion follows in another year, and these, together with the aotnal failures to c o m p l ~with the law requiring deposit in the Library of two
copies within ten d a j s after publicatiou, serve to account for the d i s
crepaucy between entries of copyright and tho receipts of the Library
under the law.
