Football players share number, success
By KRISTINA SCALA
The Moorestown Sun
Andrew Lisa and Sebastian
Jaskowski have many things in
common. Both football players
graduated from Moorestown
High School, received the Brooks-
Irvine Scholar Athlete of the
Year, currently attend Wharton
School of Business at the Univer-
sity of Pennsylvania, and both
wear the No. 2 football jersey for
the university’s team. The only
factors that set them apart are
their football positions and age.
Jaskowski, a junior, starts on
the field as a strong safety, while
Lisa is a freshman quarterback
and has yet to start on the field.
Both players enjoyed their high
school football experiences, but
college football is a different
game.
Lisa recently graduated from
Moorestown High School. The
transition from playing on the
high school team to the college
team has been tough.
“The college football experi-
ence is a lot faster and more in-
tense. The athletes are grown
men and just more mentally ma-
ture at football than in high
school,” Lisa said via email.
Although Jaskowski has three
years of a college football career
under his belt, he still remembers
his transition year.

Open house forums planned
regarding reassessment
By KRISTINA SCALA
The Moorestown Sun
Residents will be able to attend
two open house forums regarding
the latest reassessment program.
The first forum is on Sept. 27 at
the Upper Elementary School and
the second is on Thursday, Oct. 4
at the Lenola Fire House. Both fo-
rums are from 7 to 9 p.m.
Township assessor Dennis
DeKlerk said it is important for
residents to realize there are state
regulations the town needs to fol-
low. Assessors cannot redo the
whole town. Before any assess-
ment is finalized, the township
needs the state’s approval.
“The state regulates how the
process is done,” DeKlerk said.
In 2007, a town wide reevalua-
tion was done for the first time in
20 years.
According to DeKlerk, the as-
sessments that were set in 2007
were at the peak of the housing
market. With the market down,
the assessments are set higher
than the current market value on
residential and commercial prop-
erties.
This time around, a proposal
for a reassessment will cost the
town approximately $1,100. The
cost for the 2007 reevaluation was

The Moorestown Education
Foundation (MEF) is hosting its
biggest event of the year. The 17th
annual golf outing will take place
at the Laurel Creek Country Club
on Monday, Oct. 1 starting at 10:30
a.m.
The mission is to raise enough
money to fund scholarships for a
select number of Moorestown
students, support educational
programming and enhancing
technology throughout the dis-
trict.
According to MEF president
Debtosh Chakrabarti, the golf
outing is the MEF’s primary
fundraising event. The main
focus for this fundraiser is to try
and raise enough money to con-
tinue supporting and improving
educational programs in
Moorestown.
“Our programs are all geared
toward learning experiences
throughout the schools,”
Chakrabarti said.
Approximately 80 golfers are
already signed up to play, but the
MEF will continue to look for
sponsors for the event.
MEF has numerous sponsor-
ship opportunities for the tourna-
ment, Chakrabarti said.
Ticket prices are $250 per
golfer. The price includes dinner,
door prizes, and don’t forget
about golf.

G
ov. Christie’s long list of ethics
reforms has a fair number
that simply make sense. Prob-
lem is, state politicians can’t get past
the politics to enact them.
The governor, in his usual over-the-
top fashion, recently released a list of
reforms that, he says, have been sitting
around Trenton longer than the movie
“Titanic” was in theaters. And that’s a
shame, because some of these reforms
should be no-brainers.
The list includes:
A ban on dual office-holding. One po-
litical office is enough.
A ban on dual employment for all
state county and local officials and em-
ployees. Again, one government job in
New Jersey is enough.
Pension forfeiture for public officials
convicted of crimes that involve or
touch upon the public office. OK, if
you steal from the government, you
don’t get your government pension.
That, too, makes a lot of sense.
A rule that prohibits the use of cam-
paign funds for criminal defense costs.
That’s pretty much self-explanatory,
too. We’re guessing donors had other
things in mind when they wrote
checks other than helping out their fa-
vorite, yet criminally accused, candi-
date for public office.
These are just a few of the measures
the governor says have been hanging
around Trenton for hundreds of days.
The question is: Why? Who is opposed
to these ideas? Or, more likely, what
other politically charged ideas are
these tied to, which, effectively, kill the
chance of these measures getting en-
acted?
People are tired of talk. They want
action. Christie and the Democrats
have shown in the past that they can
work together and make reasonable
compromises. Education reform is a
good example.
We’d like to see the same approach
here. Pick the reform issues that every-
one can agree upon. Pass them. And
then go back to argue the ones that
aren’t so clear.
in our opinion
Ethics reform or politics?
A lot of common-sense reforms are just sitting in place
Ethics reform
We’d like to see the governor and
Democrats come together on some
common-sense ethics measures that
have been sitting around for far too
long.

school I was used to playing all
the time,” Jaskowski said.
He mentioned it was difficult to
transition from playing every
game to having a limited amount
of playing time, but it was more
difficult to leave his teammates
behind.
Playing with all of his friends
in high school was the best part
for Jaskowski. When it was time
to say goodbye, it was a saddening
experience.
Lisa also misses his high
school football days.
“I enjoyed the ‘Friday Night
Lights’ part of the game,” said
Lisa. “I loved playing in front of
my friends, but more importantly
playing on the same field together
as the kids I grew up with.”
After high school, Jaskowski
and Lisa had a difficult decision
to make – which college to go to.
Jaskowski graduated in 2010
and had to decide between mostly
Ivy League colleges such as
Princeton, Brown and Harvard.
Lisa graduated in 2012. He had
many offers from different
schools, including Division One
schools.
Both chose Wharton for its ac-
creditation in the finance and ac-
ademic world.
Lisa’s father and grandfather
both attended Wharton College of
Business. His father also played
football for the University of
Pennsylvania.
“I know it made my father and
grandfather extremely proud, “
said Lisa. “ I wanted to come to a
school that they would also be
happy seeing their son and grand-
son graduate from.”
Lisa is looking to graduate
with a degree in finance or man-
agement. Jaskowski wants to
graduate with a degree in finance
or accounting, but he is leaning
more toward finance.
“After I graduate I am looking
to get a job in the financial indus-
try. I am planning on working for
a bank after college,” Jaskowski
said.
Both are a part of big football
families. Most of Lisa’s and
Jaskowski’s family members ei-
ther played football or have a deep
love for the game.
Practice time is always intense.
Lisa and Jaskowski practice for
21 days straight. They always pre-
pare for the next set of games, but
the coaches make sure the team is
well rested before games.
Practices are intense and phys-
ically challenging for Lisa and
Jaskowski. The team plays on a
period clock and the competive-
ness grows between offensive and
defensive teammates. The lines
push each other to the limit, but
that still doesn’t stop Lisa from
having a brighter outlook when
they are running drills on the
field.
“Practices are really fun,” said
Lisa. “I love the quarterbacks
here at Penn. I can relate to all of
them. We all compete and push
each other, but have a really loose
and fun attitude at the same
time.”
The two will always miss play-
ing at Moorestown. The brother-
hood they both felt on and off the
field with the other players is
something they will never forget.
Although Lisa and Jaskowski
only practiced together during
Lisa’s sophomore year in high
school, he looks up to Jaskowski.
“[Sebastian] is an extraordi-
nary athlete and such a great
leader and mentor . . . he is some-
one I look up to every day for ad-
vice on and off the field,” Lisa
said.
University of Pennsylvania’s
first home game was a 24-8 loss
against rival Villanova on Sept.

It only takes an innovative idea
and a lot of determination to
make a dream come true and that
is what happen for three college
students of Moorestown in No-
vember of 2010.
While attending a concert the
students got the idea to create a
half and half color shirt and thus
take it from a vision to a real con-
cept. Current college students
Tyler Woyshner (Drexel), Chaz
Briggs (Rutgers) and Mike
Rudolph (West VA) embarked on
a journey with the support of
their families to make their vi-
sion a reality.
As they expanded out of their
basements to an office in
Moorestown on North Washing-
ton Street, they demonstrated a
lot of pride in their own business,
which they note is a lot of hard
work but fun and energizing.
Their customized apparel
known as “SwitchShirts” was re-
cently debuted at the 2012
Moorestown Labor Day Tourna-
ment with the introduction of
two unique Moorestown Soccer
Club (MSC) hoodies and a MSC
performance sports shirt. These
electrifying apparel pieces enrich
the MSC Apparel Store and cele-
brate the Moorestown traditional
colors of black and gold.
Purchasing the apparel items
support inspiring entrepreneurs
from the town as is the
Moorestown Soccer Club.

Owned and Operated From Historic Haddonfield
$6,000. DeKlerck said the town
would save approximately $5,000
by choosing a reassessment over
a reevaluation.
Assessors will use existing
data, go out in the field and look
for any changes. If any changes
are found, it will be added to the
property record and the updated
data will then be evaluated for a
precise recalculation.
It is easier than constructing
data from the ground up, DeKlerk
said.
DeKlerk explained when the
residents file a tax appeal, they
have a good case in having their
assessment lowered, and the
township does not collect money
on the loss. He added those losses
cause the township to cut into the
reserve for uncollected taxes.
“The market depreciation has
left us defenseless . . . you need
some kind of remedy to do some-
thing to stop the bleeding,” DeK-
lerk said.
Inspectors will roam around
town, keeping an eye out for any
changes to properties. If resi-
dents are home when the asses-
sors are evaluating properties,
DeKlerk strongly recommends a
full interior inspection. Residents
must be home and request the as-
sessor to perform the interior in-
spection.
“Every now and then there is a
property that might not have got-
ten permits for certain work,”
said DeKlerk. “[We] want to make
sure it’s captured.”

Combining print advertising with an online advertising campaign is the most comprehensive
way to reach all your local customers. But it was an expensive proposition… until now.
Sun Newspaper print customers can now take advantage of special online packages and
pricing. Our online advertising packages combine local exposure on well-known national
websites such as Discovery, Comedy Central, Time, Rachael
Ray, Facebook, USA Today and The Weather Channel with advertising on Elauwit’s hyperlocal
websites in South Jersey, Central Jersey and Philadelphia.
So whether your customers are catching up on local happenings on our websites or checking
in on their friends
on Facebook, they’ll be seeing your business.
Elauwit offers 3 digital advertising packages:
• Special online advertising packages available
to Sun Newspaper print customers only
• 3-month contract required
• Pre-payment required
