Circular and Vertical Church
God’s activity among us has various dimensions. We usually only think of the horizontal in terms of relating to others. However, God works in a circular dimension as He “draws us” to pray. Picture that sweeping motion from Heaven to earth and back to Heaven again. The personnel team, the staff, and I have sensed a prompting from God, which I shared with the church last weekend concerning some staff repositioning. After eight fruitful years of service in our Children’s Ministry, Dr. Hayes Wicker we sense that God is calling Larry Rigley to fill a muchneeded position on our staff – Associate Pastor of Senior Senior Pastor Adult activities and Pastoral Care. Larry has repeatedly demonstrated a heart of compassion and love for all ages, as well as working well with children. He and Patti will be available to minister to those in crisis, grief, illness, and at other needy times. He will help us in teaching, visiting, counseling, and performing funerals and weddings. Naturally, the rest of our staff will continue to serve and care, but Larry and Patti will bring a new dimension to the care of our almost 9,000 members, as well as with our “Young at Heart” folks. Betsy Evans, wife of Jim, has been extremely active in our children’s ministry for years. She and Jim have developed a godly home. She is a key leader in all areas of Children’s Ministry and brings a winsome personality and love for the children into her role as Interim Director of Children’s Ministry. This involves kindergarten through 4th grade and oversight of Bible & Life Groups, Kidz Town, AWANA, various activities, and working in conjunction with Beverly Day in Mangrove Island. We are also called to a vertical dimension and will be challenged to that end in a unique rally led by James MacDonald and his worship team. On a nationwide tour, we are honored that they have chosen our church and area to challenge us to continue to be a vertical church. We will continue seeking God’s glory to hear from Him and not man-centered ideas which are horizontal. As a friend of mine, James is one of the most dynamic pastors in America and hails from Ontario originally. He is the father of three grown children and grandfather to four. He founded Harvest Bible Chapel in 1988, which has grown to 13,000 people in six locations. Many of you listen to “Walk in the Word” daily on the Moody radio station, which touches more than three million weekly. Do not miss this rare opportunity. Speaking of direction, the way up is down, in God’s mind, as we humble ourselves in obedience. This is why baptism is so significant and symbolic (Matthew 28:1820). If you have not obeyed the Lord and followed Jesus’ example, I urge you to consider our Beach Baptism gulf worship service this weekend and be willing to be baptized along with others. You will sense that you are “well-pleasing to the Father.”

Opportunities to Serve

James MacDonald Vertical Church Tour
James MacDonald and the Vertical Church Band are coming to Naples for a night of window-rattling, earth-shattering, life-altering worship and teaching from God’s Word. Church was never meant to be safe. Or comfortable. Or predictable. It’s meant to arrest our pride. To crush our selfishness. To carry our heartache. To comfort our affliction. Church is where we find community, express compassion, and engage in mission. But, without God’s presence, church fails. So let’s make the change that changes everything. Go Vertical. Let’s stop making church all about us. Prepare for a serious change in direction Monday, Oct 1 at 7pm. Event is FREE but you must register at verticalchurchtour or by calling 239-596-8600 x678.

When Are We Going Back to Two Services on Sunday? - On Sunday, October 28, we will resume our two worship services at 9:30am and 11:00am.
