When it comes to that place in our life where we are required to make an important decision, most Christians honestly desire to make the right choice, the one that is in line with the Word and Will of the Lord. They realise quite correctly, that it will be all round more successful if they have God on their side in the decision they are about to make! The question is however, “how do you know what God wants you to do in the situation you are facing?” First of all, the most important thing to remember is that God’s Word is His Will, thus He will never want you to make a decision that would be contrary to His Word. Your decision must always be in line with His written Word, the Bible! For instance, there is no question whatsoever about whether or not you should be considering a divorce, because God’s Word says clearly that Jesus opposed divorce and so divorce does not even become an option and you know that God wants you to pray for reconciliation (Mark 10:3-12). The same holds true for any form of separation of the family unit, as this has a negative impact on every member of that family. Any decision you have to make that will lead you into debt, is not according to God’s Word either, because it is written that we are to owe no man anything but to love him (Rom. 13:8). Running up debt that you know you will not be able to repay, is contrary to His Will. If you find yourself in a financial crisis and want a way out however, ask your Heavenly Father to help you, and He will show you how! The Bible says in James 5:5-6: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. This portion of Scripture assures us that God will give you the necessary wisdom you need in every situation if you ask Him for it in faith. Then ask Him to confirm His leading and guidance, for out of the mouth of two or three witnesses the truth shall be established the Bible tells us in (Matt. 18:16), and one of these confirmations should come from His Word. However, I know of times, unfortunately, when someone has claimed to truly want to hear from the Lord concerning a certain decision they must make, but they have actually made up their mind already as to what they are going to do, and are just seeking God’s “permission”, so to speak, by claiming to seek His counsel. If the answer they receive from the Lord doesn’t suit them, they find an excuse to do their own thing anyway! You will never hear from the Lord if do not intend taking His advice, because He knows your heart, whether you really want to do His will, or want to justify the decision you have already made deep down inside! You need to put the whole situation and set of circumstances at His feet and pray, “not my will Father, but Yours”, and then trust Him to show you what to do. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. (Pro 3:5-6). Always remember that He loves you, you are His child and He only wants what is best for you. He alone knows what the future holds and His timing is always perfect. He promises to show you what decision you must make if you seek Him with all of your heart.(Heb.11:6) After you have enquired of Him, patiently await His answer, and until you have certainty in your heart about His answer, do not do anything in haste! Remember that “when in doubt, do nothing!” You will have the assurance of the peace of the Holy Spirit within you when
