Tulsa Women’s Soccer

Weekly Newsletter: Issue 6 Oct. 1, 2012

From the Desk of Coach Kyle Cussen
Friends & Family of the TU Women’s Soccer Program:
Another successful weekend for our women's soccer team and program. To most people, splitting a weekend with one win and one loss may not seem successful but I can assure it is! Anytime you can get a win in conference it is special. Playing Colorado College Friday night was a tough game, unfortunately losing 1-0. The girls played extremely hard and were excited about playing such a good team at home. The loss was very disheartening because the team had put so much effort into the game and didn't get rewarded with a result. Sunday brought a whole new set of obstacles. UTEP came to Tulsa on a bit of a losing streak • •

Upcoming Matches:
Friday, Oct. 5 o 7:00pm o UCF (Away) Sunday, Oct. 7 o 1:00pm o Southern Miss (Away)

From the Desk of Coach Cussen continued:
but still one of the best overall records in C-USA. We were able to score a great combination goal between Jordan and the goal scorer Cammi Pelley, in the first four minutes, which seemed to really relieve a lot of tension from our team. Claire Hulcer scored a second goal before halftime on a free kick placed in the lower left hand corner, which gave us a 2-0 advantage going into the locker room at half. We knew the game was going to be very tough in the second half and even though we conceded a goal in the 53rd minute, the girls did not break and finished the game off 2-1. Conference play allows "no rest for the weary", as we are now preparing to play #10 Central Florida this Friday night and Southern Miss on Sunday. This will be the first of two straight weekends on the road so please pray for safe travel and renewed energy as we travel. We truly appreciate everyone's support and are thankful for your prayers and encouragement. We are so blessed to have such a great group of girls and supporting parents and fans. GO TU! Coach Cuz

Alumni Spotlight: Kate Jones
1994 - 1998
As I take the time to sit down and write this I can’t help but reflect on August 1994 when I reported for two-a-days. I was eighteen years old, about to embark on my childhood dream of playing Division I soccer and I was scared to death. If only I had known how that day would shape the person I have become eighteen years later. The friendships, memories and relationships that I began building have continued to this day. Currently I live and work in Tulsa but my true passion comes from my time spent volunteering with The University of Tulsa’s Lettermen’s Association. I have spent ten years on the TULA Board and recently took office as President. I appreciate the opportunities to build relationships with all the current student athletes as well as all the alumni letterwinners. I have watched as our University has transformed itself both academically and physically over the past 15 years. The improvements made to the athletic facilities are absolutely mind blowing. If you have not visited campus in the past few years I recommend making a visit this October 26th for the SMU game and a chance to see the transformation. Kyle and his staff are working hard to bring back the winning tradition of TU Women’s Soccer. This year’s team is off to a great start and can always use the support of the alumni who built the foundation of this program. Just a couple of years back at an alumni weekend, as we sat lacing up our “boots” the conversations and laughter made me feel like I was back in school. It was as though no time had passed between all the former players. We share a bond that was built with blood, sweat and tears, literally! I hope you would please consider supporting our current team through the Goal Club, Lettermen’s Association or the Golden Hurricane Club. But most importantly, I hope to see many of you back for a game this season, especially the SMU game or at other TU athletic events! Kate Jones (WSC 1994-97)
