Kuta is nestled between Jl. Bakungsari to the south and Jl. Melasti to the north. Kuta is the best known of all the villages in Bali, often maligned, Jl. Kuta gets its so called bad reputation from the early Ph.+62 361 8475955/Fax.+62 361 8475682 days of travel to Bali where everybody, particularly the young crowd, www.xpbali.com/info@xpbali.com hung out and got wrecked. Footpaths didn't exist, open drains ran down the side of unmade roads. Shopping was sarongs and T-shirts and hawkers who sold just about anything. Times have changed and Kuta has grown up, gone are the unmade roads and open drains. Footpaths, although narrow, run both sides of the main streets. The hawkers are still there - part of the character of the place. Sarongs and T-shirts are still sold but now there are CD shops, boutiques, small trendy bars and restaurants and even Department Stores. Kuta boasts the world's first "themed" Hard Rock Hotel. Imagine going into a huge one level shopping centre that would take about 45 minutes to walk from one end to the other with small RV-1230 walkways branching off in every direction, now add cars, motorbikes and the odd temple ceremony. Man smuggled into Spain disguised as car seat

An illegal immigrant has been caught trying to enter Spain disguised as a car seat.
According to reports, police caught the 20year-old man from Guinea trying to sneak into the Spanish enclave of Melilla from Morocco over the Beni-Enzar crossing. The insides of the Renault 7's passenger seat had been discarded, leaving only the frame which he slid into, with a co-diver sitting on top of him. Guardia Civil officers, who had to help the man out of his unusual hiding place, described his attempt to pass undetected as 'unique and innovative'. The two Moroccan men, aged 21 and 23 were arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle him across the border and will appear before a court accused of people smuggling later this week. The man was also detained and appeared before a judge and was expelled from the enclave.

BALI THE RIGHT WAY

Gday again punters and welcome to the Kuta Weekly. What a weekend in A.F.L footy just gone with the Swans getting up over the Hawks to take the grand final prize. It was touch and go for a while as we all watched the lead change a few times but in the end the red and white dominated the day. Well done to the team for a great season of never say die footy. With regards to the N.R.L final, I would have to take my hat off to the Bulldogs for getting there with their new coach, but unfortunately the Storm from Melbourne were just too strong. A great win for them and the lads. It seems the outcome of the aliasj@kutaweekly.com weekend is that, the cup that traditionally belongs in Melbourne has been sent to Sydney, and the cup that belongs in Sydney has been sent to Melbourne. This means that next season, we will all be looking forward to some major hard work from the respective teams in returning the respective cups to their respective homes. Now the footy is over for another year I think there will be a few punters, like myself that are at a bit of a loose end each weekend seeing there are no games to watch. Luckily the powers that be at Crusoe's Bar and Restaurant on Legian street have come up with a solution for Friday night at the least, being the re-introduction of the beloved Pressure Hour. Now for those of you that don't know what this is about, let me explain. The bell will call between 5-5.30pm which is the start of the pressure hour and for an entire hour thereafter, provided nobody goes to the toilet or walks out of the venue, ALL THE BEER IS FREE. This became a great Friday night institution in years gone by at a different venue that has since moved on and I expect will become much the same at Crusoe's each Friday afternoon. You only need to turn up and buy your first beer, Bintang or San Miguel, and for the next hour drink as much as you like for nothing, just be sure to use the dunny first and don't walk outside to answer your phone. Many expats and tourists used to use the hour to meet with friends and kick off a good weekend in Bali, needless to say I think the same thing will happen this time around at Crusoe's. The night will move on with a band and heaps of entertainment as is usual for the place and I hope to see as many expats as possible get down and enjoy a few beers this Friday night. Thanks to Crusoe's for their ongoing support and you can check out their advertisement on page 15. Ok folks, I did get a letter from a reader this week, amongst many, and this one in particular I will share with you. The letter is as follows: Hello Aliasj, I read your page religiously & usually take your advice & checkout the places you recommend. In the last week I decided to visit Ma In Lo Bar in Jalan Benesari in Kuta, because I heard they now have a food menu. Nice environment & decor with character. The Piranha's are an interesting touch. Anyway the food was good & the service was good and you were right in saying to check out the feeding time for the piranha, if you have never seen this before you will be amazed. Just imagine being in a canoe in the Amazon & falling in just to be greeted by a few thousand piranhas. Would tickle you to the bones I would think. What a Great place. Thank you again, Dick Brown-Perth So there you have it folks yet another happy reader, and yes Dick they are doing food now at Ma Ni Lo Bar and correct the piranha's are fantastic to watch at feeding time. Cheers for supporting our sponsors, as we only try to include decent business owners to our pages. Ok folks I think it's time to splash some water on my face like a girl and freshen up for the afternoon session with friends. I really hope the most of you don't get taken out by a crazed lunatic with a runaway bus and stay safe, happy, healthy and always remember He looks the whole world in the face for he owes not any man Enjoy your week, ALIASJ..

The girl with the Photoshop tattoo

IT SEEMS that after using the computerbased design tool, Photoshop, for 16 years the software has left a permanent impression on this web designer. Literally.
While the industry standard photo-editing software now encourages non-destructive editing - meaning you can always go back to a previous version of your file - one fan has decided to make one of her designs permanent. Megan Orsi, mother of one, has created her own personal homage to her favourite editing tool in the form of a large tattoo on her forearm which displays what users will recognise as the toolbar palette. Since obsessively teaching herself the ins and outs of Photoshop when she was an XFiles obsessed primary-schooler Orsi has built a career as a web designer and front-end web developer. When asked what inspired her to get the self-designed tattoo Orsi said: "Photoshop has played a HUGE roll in my life. Photoshop helped me to realize, at a rather young age, that this is what I wanted to do with my life I want to create! "This propelled me to get a college degree in Graphic Design and I've been a professional in my field for a little over 6 years now. My current title is Sr. Lead Web Designer, and without my addiction, er, love of Photoshop back in the late 1990s, I may not be where I am today."

Indonesian Tourism Minister Urges Abolishment of US$25 Visa-on-Arrival Fee

Bisnis.com reports that Indonesia's Minister of Tourism and the Creative Economy, Mari Elka Pangestu, has expressed her concern that the permanent imposition of the US$25 visa-on-arrival fee threatens the future development of tourism to Indonesia. Pangestu said the government has received many complaints from Japanese travel operator who are members of the Japan Association of Travel Agents (JATA) regarding the US$25 charged to arriving tourists in exchange for a 30-day visa. She said that Japanese travel professionals in urging Indonesia to end its visa fee point to other destinations, such as Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines who do not charge a visa fee and make obtaining a visa hassle free. I will recommend to the Minister of Finance that the imposition of the visa fee become an agenda item in future discussions. Hopefully, we can find the best solution, said Pangestu while attending the Indonesian stand at the JATA Tourism Forum and Travel Showcase in Japan. The Japan travel fair was attended by nationals from 156 countries. Also attending the were 20 Bali tourism professionals who were members of Rasa Sayang a consortium of travel agents focused on the Japanese market. Nia Niscaya, the director of marketing for overseas markets from the Ministry said the cost of obtaining the visa applies to most foreign tourist coming to Indonesia. She insisted abolishing the visa fee would be a relatively easy matter for the related ministries accomplish. If the fee is abolished it would have a positive effect on increasing tourist visitors that in turn would increase revenues in all supporting sectors, such as hotels, resorts and shopping for handicrafts, Nia explained. The best option for you will depend on your personal situation, the type of property, risk factors and the type of investment model. Even though it states in Indonesian law that foreigners are not allowed to hold a 'freehold' land title, there are ways that have been in practice for a number of years that enable foreigners to control a freehold title indirectly or to hold a leasehold title in their own name.

Or foreigner permanently domiciled in Indonesia, or a foreign legal entity with a representative office in Indonesia such as foreign Banks, embassies, etc.

NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK

This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

Bulls can be a lazy lot, but a rickety relationship will only improve if you get off your bovine behind and get to work! And romance will only blossom if you treat your partner like a Prince or Princess and make a long-term commitment. If you're not serious about the relationship, then it's time to move on. Singles look for love with someone who is clever and mature.

Scorpio October 24 to November 22

Between October 3-28, Venus blesses group activities and all types of networking. On Saturday, Saturn starts a three year transit through your sign. So it's a period when you need to accept responsibility for the decisions you make; consolidate your Scorpio strengths; and work on your weaknesses. With passion and purpose, you can make your dreams come true.

Gemini May 22 to June 21

Geminis are the gadabouts of the zodiac you're always in such a rush. This week, with Mercury moving into Scorpio, slow down and take the time to listen and observe. Enjoy the company of family and friends on the weekend, but steer clear of superficial chit-chat, garrulous gossip and ridiculous rumors. Singles if you're looking for love, you'll have to be proactive.

Sagittarius November 23 to December 21

With peace-loving Venus visiting your career zone [from October 3-28] it's time to repair rickety professional relationships, plus beautify your work space. And some lucky singles will start a workplace romance. Mighty Mars marches into your sign on Sunday [until November 17] so you'll be at your bright, breezy, buoyant best. Sock it to 'em Sagittarius!

Cancer June 22 to July 23

As the Sun moves through your domestic zone over the next couple of weeks, home is definitely where the heart is. Focus on ways you can bring more happiness into your home, and more fun into your family relationships. Draw inspiration from Desmond Tutu [born on October 7] You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them.

Capricorn December 22 to January 20

You have very high standards and expect a lot from yourself and others. Don't let your perfectionist streak get out of control this week and don't take criticism too personally, especially on Friday. Saturn [your ruling planet] starts a three year journey through Scorpio on Saturday. This will increase your focus and ambition plus your stress levels. Learn to relax.

www.balidiscovery.com

Leo July 24 to August 23

Luxury-loving Lions Venus moves through your money zone [from October 3-28] so resist the urge to be flash with cash and careless with credit. Instead of draining your savings, work on building up your core self-esteem. It's also time to be proactive about friendships, as you expand your peer group to include people who are positive and passionate about life.

Aquarius January 21 to February 19

You love talking about your grandiose goals for the future but dynamic Mars is asking you to walk your talk and take action. Serious Saturn shifts into your career zone on Saturday [where it stays for nearly three years]. So, if you take shortcuts at work, you'll pay the price. Patience, planning and persistence will get you a lot further than impulsive petulance.

New comet out shines the moon

Canada told National Geographic. The comet already seems to be following the path of the Great Comet of 1690, which was one of the most stunning ever seen from Earth. It should also pass about 10 million kilometres from Mars, possibly providing Nasa's new Curiosity rover with a spectacular view. But Mr Samra warned scientists should be cautious about predicting the brightness of comets, as they have failed to live up to expectations in the past.

Virgo August 24 to September 23

Partnerships are highlighted this week, as Venus moves through your sign [from October 3 until the 28th]. However, if you don't improve your communication skills, then your relationships will gradually disintegrate. It's your responsibility to do all you can to facilitate open, two-way conversation. Strive to get others onside, as you charm the cynics and dazzle the doubters.

Pisces February 20 to March 20

Mighty Mars charges into your career zone, so strive to be proactive about professional projects. And have you been having relationship problems? Clear communication and cool compromise will smooth over most disagreements, but you'll have to swallow your pride and initiate peace talks. No procrastinating Pisces it's time to take the lead, at work and at home.

A new Smartphone app and website released in Poland allows residents of a southern town to track their 'delivery' from the moment they flush their toilet to when it reaches sewage works.
The website and application are entitled 'Where's my poo?' and were designed by a Polish water works company. Jzef Natonek, Director of Jaworzno MPWiK (Municipal Water and Sewage Company), said the aim was to provoke interest in the sewage works of the town and to provide locals with an environmental education. 'The application was supposed to raise people's awareness and it did just this,' he said. 'Thanks to this many people are talking about the sewers.

Dead crickets kick up a stink in Texas

have resulted in crickets appearing earlier than normal. Typically, the insects do not turn up until late August or early September. But this year they have been abundant since April, he said. 'We have seen a really extended season,' Mr Huffman said. Health officials say the crickets do not pose any direct health risks.

The smell of decaying cricket carcasses is plaguing several businesses in a Texan town and they do not seem to be able to get rid of the problem. A bank and a chemist are among the firms struck by the foul odour from the dead insects that have apparently been trapped inside walls and have also been found on pavements in Waco. Bank manager Jani Rodriguez said he had used several scented products to try and mask the stench in his branch. The firm has also had the carpets cleaned and covered up openings where crickets might sneak in, like the small space around its glass doors. But the bad smell remains and the problem seems to get worse when it rains. This is because the insects are flushed out of cracks and crevices in the dirt where they normally live. 'It's outside, it's inside,' Mr Rodriquez said of the problem. 'You kind of get used to it when you're here. But when you walk out and come back in, it's really bad.' A chemist has also battled the pungent smell of dead crickets. Assistant store manager Mellinda Whitten said the main issue has been scores of crickets that die on pavements or just inside the front entrance. The staff do their best to sweep up the crickets, dispose of them and clean the affected areas, Ms Whitten said. But every time it rains, the problem starts again. Fred Huffman, an entomologist who runs a local pest control business, said the cricket issue is an annual problem in central Texas. But this year has been worst than most because moist, mild conditions during the winter

Egg-centric fan opens hen hotel

A chicken hotel has emerged in southeast England amid growing demand for fowl accommodation in the chicken-loving county of Kent.
T h e h o t e l , affectionately named 'Fowlty Towers', provides top notch accommodation for England's growing domestic chicken population while their owners are on holiday. Its rather eccentric owner, hen hotellier Julie Smith, is on hand to give the birds a home away from home. 'I started looking after them as a favour and then I thought well it might be a bit of a business and we'll try and get them sorted so we ended up with lots of people ringing up and asking if I could look after their hens when they went on holiday,' she said. Guests at the boutique style establishment enjoy pampering and fresh vegetables every day in the luxury hen house. Ms Smith also occasionally treats the chickens to a joy ride in her hen stroller, giving the hens an opportunity for sightseeing in her quaint village of Cowden. 'I think that they bring them to me because I give them individual attention, as I say they are pets so I care a lot about them, rather than no disrespect to any big concern but obviously the small number just get that little bit extra,' Julie said. Most of Ms Smith's clients come from the local area, although some guests have come from neighbouring counties.

Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25 March 1947, the eldest child of Stanley and only child of Sheila Eileen Dwight (ne Harris) and was raised in Pinner, Middlesex in a council house of his maternal grandparents. His parents did not marry until he was 6 years old, when the family moved to a nearby semi-detached house. He was educated at Pinner Wood Junior School, Reddiford School and Pinner County Grammar School, until age 17, when he left just prior to his A Level examinations to pursue a career in the music industry. When John began to seriously consider a career in music, his father, who served as a Flight Lieutenant in the Royal Air Force, tried to steer him toward a more conventional career, such as banking. John has stated that his wild stage costumes and performances were his way of letting go after such a restrictive childhood. Both of John's parents were musically inclined, his father having been a trumpet player with the Bob Millar Band, a semi-professional big band that played at military dances. The Dwights were keen record buyers, exposing John to the popular singers and musicians of the day, and John remembers being immediately hooked on rock and roll when his mother brought home records by Elvis Presley and Bill Haley & His Comets in 1956. John started playing the piano at the age of 3, and within a year, his mother heard him picking out Winifred Atwell's "The Skater's Waltz" by ear. After performing at parties and family gatherings, at the age of 7 he took up formal piano lessons. He showed musical aptitude at school, including the ability to compose melodies, and gained some notoriety by playing like Jerry Lee Lewis at school functions. At the age of 11, he won a junior scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music. According to one of his instructors, John promptly played back, like a "gramophone record", a four-page piece by Handel that he heard for the first time. For the next five years he attended Saturday classes at the Academy in central London, and has stated that he enjoyed playing Chopin and Bach and singing in the choir during Saturday classes, but that he was not otherwise a diligent classical student. "I kind of resented going to the Academy", he says. "I was one of those children who could just about get away without practising and still pass, scrape through the grades." He even claims that he would sometimes skip classes and just ride around on the Tube. However, several instructors have testified that he was a "model student", and during the last few years he was taking lessons from a private tutor in addition to his classes at the Academy. John's mother, though also strict with her son, was more vivacious than her husband, and something of a free spirit. With Stanley Dwight uninterested in his son and often physically absent, John was raised primarily by his mother and maternal grandmother. When his father was home, the Dwights would have terrible arguments that greatly distressed their son. When John was 14, they divorced. His mother then married a local painter, Fred Farebrother, a caring and supportive stepfather whom John affectionately referred to as "Derf", his first name in reverse. They moved into flat No. 1A in an eight-unit apartment building called Frome Court, not far from both previous homes. It was there that John would write the songs that would launch his career as a rock star; he would live there until he had four albums simultaneously in the American Top 40. At the age of 15, with the help of his mother and stepfather, Reginald Dwight became a weekend pianist at a nearby pub, the Northwood Hills Hotel, playing Thursday to Sunday nights for 35 a week and tips. Known simply as "Reggie", he played a range of popular standards, including songs by Jim Reeves and Ray Charles, as well as songs he had written himself. From humble beginning to a worldwide mega star.

Dear Martha, I have just completed my 3rd week in Bali, staying just out of town. I have been catching taxis 2 to 4 times a day. Is it normal for the taxi drivers to interrogate their customers? Example of this is; what is your name, how long you in Bali, you married to Indo girl, you own your house or rent. Who do these idiots think they are? Then of course later in the night they are reluctant to put their meters on. Do they really think all westerners are stupid? If they only thought past the next minute & they put their meters on & shut up they may find tips forthcoming. Next time I come to Bali I will have my own driver/ vehicle so I don't have to deal with these halfwits. Just wish I could ride a motorbike but there are already enough incompetent riders on the road in Bali without me adding to it. Yours grumpily, Simon Dear Simon, As a tourist to Bali you must surely understand the level of intrigue & interest from the local people dear, they ask you questions about yourself just like you ask them questions about their customs & where they are from, when you holiday here. The Balinese are an extremely friendly race & the conversation would be purely friendly. Maybe next time you come to Bali you should consider staying within walking distance to town& that should eliminate your need to take so many taxis. For the duration of your holiday I would suggest you use Bluebird taxi's as they always use a meter , you can contact them on 0 361 70 1111.

Camilla's puppy love

AN abandoned Jack Russell terrier called Bluebell has risen to a life of luxury in an instant after being adopted by the Duchess of Cornwall.
A long-term fan of the small hunting breed, Prince Charles' wife Camilla recently collected the tiny white and tan canine from a south London dogs home. It's quite a turnaround in luck for the little snapper who was found worse for wear after being dumped in a public park at just four weeks old. "She had lost a lot of hair and her skin was pink and sore," a spokesman for Camilla has reportedly said of Bluebell. It's not the first time Camilla's puppy love has saved a pooch from a potentially sour end. Bluebell will join fellow Jack Russell Beth, who Camilla adopted from the same home in 2011. On both occasions the royal has parted with a STG105 ($A164.60) fee to cover the charity's cost of vaccinations, microchipping, collar, identification tag and lead. Royal aides will ensure the bow wows are kept in the manner to which they are becoming accustomed during Charles and Camilla's upcoming trip to Australia and New Zealand.

Rare gold coin sold for record price

One of Australia's rarest collectable gold coins will return home after being sold for a record price at a London auction.
The 1920 Sydney Mint Sovereign one of only three known to be held in private collections is believed to be Australia's most expensive coin. The winning anonymous bidder is reportedly keen to return the coin to Australia. A similar coin was last sold three years ago for more than $800 thousand dollars.

Swans celebrate grand final victory

Celebrations are continuing for the Swans, who are celebrating their 10point premiership victory over Hawthorn via meetings with fans in Melbourne and Sydney. Sydney took victory after a thrilling encounter with the Hawks that saw six lead changes in a high-intensity encounter. Hawthorn started the stronger of the two sides, but Sydney managed to kick six unanswered goals in the second quarter to gain the advantage going into half-time. The Hawks battled back to take the lead in the final quarter, but Sydney once again answered strongly with four goals to seal the title. Swans fans in both Sydney and Melbourne have celebrated the club's fifth premiership, which included three as South Melbourne. Many Melbourne-based Swans fans followed South Melbourne before they relocated to Sydney in 1982. This morning, about 3,000 Swans supporters attended a presentation at Melbourne's Lakeside Oval, considered to be the spiritual home of the Swans. Swans coach John Longmire thanked them for their support. "We are so lucky having a club in Sydney, but also real homeland support in Melbourne," he said. Josh Kennedy says the old Swans fans played a big part in the assured the crowd that they will play on in 2013 in an attempt to defend their title. One fan said he had followed the Swans as they made their move north from Melbourne. "I came out from the west and started barracking for them at the age of 11. I am 79 now so to see [another premiership] is just unbelievable," he said. Another fan said that it was great to be celebrating the Swans victory at Lakeside Oval. "My whole family are Swannies and we are going to celebrate for weeks and weeks," she said. The team were about half an hour late and were showing the effects of a big night's celebrating. Ruckman Shane Mumford missed the team bus and arrived a few minutes later, wearing his match-day jersey and bright green shoes. Mumford jumped on stage to a big cheer and let out a big yell, much to the amusement of his team-mates. The players were interviewed on stage before mingling with fans and signing autographs.

Residents up in arms after council hires contractors to mow fake grass

Springboks run Wallabies ragged

South Africa changed the emphasis from kicking to running with the ball and scored five tries to crush Australia 31-8 in the Rugby Championship on Sunday morning (AEST).
Veteran right wing Bryan Habana ran in three and there was one each for full-back Zane Kirchner and flanker Francois Louw as the Springboks ended a run of five losses against the Wa l l a b i e s a f t e r leading 14-3 at the break. The bonuspoint triumph before a nearcapacity crowd at the 50,000-seat L o f t u s Ve r s f e l d stadium lifted South Africa to 12 points, four behind New Zealand and four ahead of Australia in the s o u t h e r n hemisphere competition. Scrum half Ruan Pienaar, who took over the placing kicking duties after new fly half Johan Goosen narrowly missed two early shots at goal, completed the scoring with three conversions. But usually deadly place kicker Goosen shrugged off the disappointments to justify his selection ahead of long-time pivot Morne Steyn and centre Jaco Taute had a satisfactory first start in the green and gold colours. "It is much nicer to win than to lose and today it all came together this evening," said Springbok centre and skipper Jean de Villiers, referring to a lucky draw in Argentina and losses in Australia and New Zealand. "The difference in this match was that we executed our game plan much better than in Mendoza, Perth and Dunedin. Gaps opened up and we took full advantage to score those tries. "But it was not just the backs who deserved credit - the forwards were all outstanding, especially our loose forwards Duane (Vermuelen), Willem (Alberts), Francois (Louw) and Marcell (Coetzee)." Wallabies lock and skipper South Africa succeeded with only two of nine kicks at goal against New Zealand in Dunedin two weeks ago and chief culprit Steyn was axed by coach Heyneke Meyer after a public and media outcry. Australia has been plagued by injuries throughout the Championship and it only got worse at Loftus with numerous casualties, including centre Adam Ashley-Cooper, who was taken to hospital with concussion before the break. T h e visitors had to play the last eight minutes a man short after making all seven substitutions and were also reduced to 14 men early in the second half when replacement prop James Slipper was sin-binned. Kurtley Beale, making his first start at fly-half for the Wallabies, kicked a first half penalty and replacement back Mike Harris went over in the corner for a try after the Springboks had built a 23-point advantage. But razor-sharp Habana had the final say, rounding off another good handling movement in the final minute to raise his career total to 46 tries, against demoralised opponents. Kirchner and Habana scored first-half tries and Goosen and Kirchner also touched down over the line only to have their efforts disallowed for a double movement and a foot in touch respectively.

Bellamy set to rebuild victorious Storm again

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy says rebuilding a team stripped bare by the salary cap scandal has been the most energy-sapping period of his career. Bellamy and his bleary-eyed players held aloft the premiership trophy on Monday in front of more than 3,000 fans in Melbourne following Sunday night's 14-4 grand final win over the Bulldogs in Sydney. And his pleasure was plain to see at completing a task many thought was beyond anyone - a first premiership triumph since the Storm had their 2007 and 2009 titles expunged for rorting the salary cap. "The last three years have been very energy-sapping I must say, and it's taken us a lot of hard work to get where we're at," Bellamy said. "There's been a lot of time put in, a real lot of effort, and it was particularly good to get that result last night. "We lost half our squad, I lost all my assistant coaches. It was a lot of hard work. "But the strong point about our club is the people we bring here usually jump on board with what we're doing." Now Bellamy is facing yet another rebuild, with five Storm players involved in a victory built on superhuman defence leaving the club. "We're losing five guys out of that side last night - and that's a third of your team," Bellamy said. "We just seem to lose more players than any other club but we've got some good young guys in our system. "We'll see what we've got preseason, and go again." Storm officials are keen to resign Bellamy, who has one more year remaining on his contract, to a new long-term deal. But Bellamy wants to enjoy the victory before he enters into any talks. "I'll be here next year, no doubt. I've got a contract, and I won't be breaking that contract," Bellamy said. "I'm not thinking about (any new deal) at the moment. I just want to enjoy this with the players." The Storm eventually showed off the premiership trophy to their home fans following a heavily delayed flight from Sydney and 90 minutes later than originally scheduled. Melbourne five-eighth Gareth Widdop also had another reason to celebrate, with partner Carley giving birth to a baby girl, Harper, just hours after the grand final win.

Dominant Watson eyes more T20 victims

Shane Watson's brilliant form with bat and ball has propelled Australia's unbeaten run in the World Twenty20, but the star allrounder warned rivals he was not finished yet. Watson's extraordinary display has won him man-of-the-match awards in all four of Australia's games and made him both the top run-getter and leading wicket-taker in the tournament. Having thrashed India and South Africa in its first two Super Eight matches, Australia must still beat Pakistan on Tuesday to qualify for the semi-finals from group two. Watson, the 31-year-old vicecaptain, said he needed to continue with the same intensity if the Aussies were to win the one major title that has eluded them so far. "I know how important every game is to us and, in a World Cup, there is no game where you can take your foot off the pedal," Watson said after the eight-wicket win over South Africa on Sunday night. "I know how important it is for me to continue doing the simple keys and cues that I have got for both batting and bowling, and be able to hopefully replicate my deeds in one game after another. "In the end, it is so important to keep the momentum going. At the moment, things are going really well for all of us as a team. "We are really up for every game because we really want to show ourselves how good a Twenty20 team we are." Watson has not looked back since taking a wicket with his first ball in the tournament, removing Ireland captain William Porterfield with the opening delivery of the match. He finished with 3 for 26 in that game and then hammered 51 off 30 balls with five fours and three sixes to fashion Australia's easy seven-wicket win. In the next game against the West Indies, Watson claimed 2 for 29 and hit an unbeaten 41 off 24 balls before rain forced the game to be abandoned with Australia 17 runs ahead on the Duckworth-Lewis method. Watson was in rollicking form in the opening Super Eights match against India, taking 3 for 34 before smashing seven sixes and two fours in 72 from 42 balls during the ninewicket victory. And on Sunday night he decimated South Africa with 2 for 29 and 70 off 47 balls with the bat. Asked the reason for his success, Watson remarked: "Things are just falling my way at the moment I suppose." Watson leads the batting chart in the tournament with 234 runs in four matches, an average of 78, a strike rate of almost 164 and the most number of sixes (15). He is also the leading bowler in the competition with 10 wickets, one ahead of Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis. Australia's T20 skipper George Bailey was delighted at Watson's form. "I think he's really set himself to be the man of the series, to be the person who leads Australia as far as he can in this tournament," Bailey said. When you see how he plays this form of the game, he's almost the complete cricketer."

Nathan Sharpe admitted the injuries - the catalogue of misery began on six minutes when centre Pat McCabe went off took its toll on a side that won their last two Championship Tests. "It is difficult to rejig a side on the run and a good Springbok team fully exploited our problems. We must now bounce back against Argentina and finish the campaign strongly," Sharpe said. Continuing poor place kicking was the one disappointment as the Springboks got back on the winning trail after a three-match winless run with Pienaar failing to convert four penalty attempts.

Hawks blew their chance: Matthews

Hawthorn legend Leigh Matthews says the club has blown a premiership chance through a lack of composure.
Warm favourites entering Saturday's grand final, the Hawks dominated clearances and attacking entries and had five more scoring shots but still fell to Sydney 14.7 (91) to 11.15 (81). lie," the four-time premiership coach said on the Seven Network's AFL Game Day on Sunday. "If you dominate the clearances like Hawthorn did, particularly the centre clearances 19-5, therefore you dominate with the ball in attack, you should win the game. G r a n d s t a n d commentator Mark McClure says the Hawks should have taken advantage after taking "But goals win games. The Swans kicked the goals. Unfortunately Hawthorn kicked a lot of behinds." The Swans laid a remarkable 109 tackles, 26 more than the Hawks. But Matthews said even when the Hawks had time, they did not use the ball well enough. "The composure with the ball under the physical and mental pressure of the game, the Swans had it for more of the game than Hawthorn," Matthews said. "That's why I thought that Hawthorn blew it. "I thought they just had very little composure going into their forward line and very little composure when t h e y w e r e generating their shots." The AFL great also noted a statistical quirk that of the 11 occasions a non-Victorian club has faced a Victorian club in a grand final, the visitors have now won eight. It contrasts starkly with a record which heavily favours the home team in other finals between sides from different states. Matthews, who coached Brisbane to their 2001-03 hattrick of grand final wins, all against Victorian clubs, theorised that non-Victorian sides might benefit in grand final week by avoiding the extreme attention their rivals in Melbourne receive.
