A statewide survey of 500 likely voters in Wisconsin was conducted by Grove Insight October 17-18 using professional interviewers. Quotas were set to ensure calling into cell phone only households. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.4 percentage points at the 95% level of confidence.

Barack Obama now holds a slim, threepoint lead in Wisconsin, garnering 47% of the vote to Romneys 44%. Double-digit support from women (50% Obama, 40% Romney) is what gives the President his lead, while Romney is running ahead among men by five points (43% Obama to 48% Romney). 60% 40% 20%

Lean Obama 9 % Obamas edge can be explained by his Romney 38% seemingly sympathetic view of the middle Lean Romney 6% class. By a margin of 12 points, Wisconsinites are more likely to believe he, not Romney, understands middle class struggles while Romney is more apt to be perceived as out of touch.

It is also interesting that the Republican is seen as a bigger threat on taxes. By five points, Wisconsin voters worry more that Romney is the candidate more likely to raise taxes on the middle class.
