The 12 C’s of the Holy Spirit

Counsel, Correct, Convict, Comfort, Convert, Confess, Cleanse, Console, Congratulate, Convince, Commune, Conform! Counsel us: The Lord is COUNSELING you. That is, He will help you to think through, work out something which you need to resolve or decide. He is your Inner Adult voice and He will speak to you in a reasonable, rational, mature, logical, objective, morally responsible and biblically wise way. He will give you His guidance, His wisdom. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit. (l Cor l2:7-8). If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him (James l:5). Correct us: The Lord is CORRECTING you. He has shown you that you are in error, deception, selfdeception, or denial. He will point out some error in the way you are thinking or seeing things. He will show you that you are lying about something to yourself or someone; that you are escaping or not living according to the truth. Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32). Send forth thy light and thy truth: let them lead me (Ps 43:3). Comfort us: The Lord has COMFORTED you. You will experience the Lord strengthening and loving you. He will lift you up, uphold and support you in what He says to you. You will feel safe and secure through the speaking of His Word to you. Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me (Ps 23:4). I, even I, am He that comforteth you (Is 5l:l2). He has ministered to your pain, anxiety, tribulation or turmoil. He has eased your burden, your grief, your despair, discouragemnet, disappointment and selfcondemnation. He will remove guilt and shame and give you hope and encouragement. The God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. (Rom l5:l3). Convert us: Convicts us: The Lord has CONVICTED you of some sin, some failing, some ungodly thinking, feeling or behavior. He does not do this to harm you or to hurt you or to make you burdened with sin or guilt or shame. Not at all! Instead, He will convict you in order to help you confess your failing, admit your sin, and seek His forgiveness and renewal. Learn to distinguish and discern the different voices you are hearing when there is guilt, shame or conviction. If you are feeling overwhelmed with guilt or shame, it is more likely coming from your own personality; your critical inner voice attacking your self-esteem, or it is Satan who seeks to make you discouraged and defeated. When God convicts, He does so in a powerful manner, but always in a spirit of hope, encouragement, renewal and reconciliation. O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.(Ps 69:5). Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight (Ps 51:4). Confess the Name of Jesus to us: Cleanse us: Console us: Congratulate us: Convince us: The Lord has CONVINCED you of something. He will press home some fact or show you something which you are not seeing. He has been teaching or educating you. There may be

something which you are not understanding. He will show you something which you didn't know about Himself, yourself, others, or your walk with Him. He will enlighten or inspire you. How precious to me are Your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them (Ps l39:l7). Nothing is all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account (Heb 4:l3). Commune with us: The Lord has COMMUNED with you. God may simply want to be close to you and abide with you. He may simply want you to enjoy His company and He yours. It is enough to know that He is present; that He is near; that you are together. You will feel the warmth and security and delight of His presence. He is telling you He wants to be close and intimate to you. He says, Be still and know that I am God.(Ps 46:l0). Conform us into the likeness of Christ: Ephesians 4:13 says. The Spirit continues to work in us "until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ."
