Over an extended period of time, how can the Healthy Kids Club encourage and allow children and their families to relay health information to each other to create a healthier lifestyle?

We remember coming home to our parents asking us, “what did you do at school today?” No matter how much you had actually learned that day, you always gave the simple reply of: nothing. And that was the end of the conversation.

E

For the recipe activities, children will be given simple recipes to take home. these are recipes that they would have learned about in class or could potentially be new to provide a challenge.

E

By taking them home, they are given the opportunity to teach their parents what they learned or help learn together.

The scavenger hunt is an example of an exercise. This allows children to get their heart rate up in a fun way while also involving their parents. Some examples are, READ SOME EXAMPLES.

My healthy goals would act as a discussion starter as well as an activity. This would allow the parents to actively involve themselves with their child’s goal setting while also helping the child maintain their goals through the week.

E

The children will use the knowledge from class as well as their parents input to create additional goals for them selves. And of course, parents could physically participate.

the bonus section at the bottom are add-ons, or things that can be combined with the other activities such as............

teaming up with another classmate,.....

making extra food for the rest of the class to taste-test,......

substitute ingredients in a recipe,..........

or teaching someone outside of healthy kids club what they’ve learned.

After each of the activities, students get to have a form of show-and-tell to share with the class what they did and what they learned with their families. The point system we’ve developed works in conjunction with the show-and-tell idea since the children get to choose what activities they do. Each child will have a different story.

At the end of the Healthy Kids Club term, there could be some sort of banquet /potluck activity where family members come in with students and share their experiences with each other through healthy food, visual art, and writing. This ending activity encourages dialogue between families. Prizes would be issued based on the amount of points each student received. And don’t worry.....

everyone wins
