1. INT. JAMES MUM AND DAD’S HOUSE – MORNING – ESTABLISHING Typical teenagers’ bedroom, clothes on the floor, messy. The morning sun is rising through the window lighting the bedroom. Stares down to the ground noticing his hands are firmly tied behind his back. Eyes slowly opening as if he’s falling in and out of consciousness. Forcefully being moved out from his bedroom.
JAMES (Huskily) what’s happening, what’re you doing?
DCI GREEN (powerfully) Son, you’re coming with us, there’s a situation which needs urgent attention. James getting marched through his own house, assessing the situation, people lay around his house, asleep and not in a fit state to move. Furniture turned over and spread around the house.
JAMES (anxiously) where are we going?
DCI GREEN (uncompromisingly) all will become clear soon enough.
Eyes still slowly opening and closing until they close and the setting changes. 2. INT. INTERVIEW ROOM – WHITE ROOM – ESTABLISHING James is sat at a table opposite who he presumes to be DCI Green. The room has four white walls and all that’s inside is the table, James, DCI Green and a shabby looking cassette player. DCI Green plays around with the cassette before pushing a button which starts the recording.
DCI GREEN (Firmly) start time of interview is 10:07, can you please confirm that your birth given name is James Andrew Macmillan?
JAMES (Worryingly) yes that’s my name, but why does it matter? What’s happened?
DCI GREEN (Content) thank you, and your date of birth being the 14th September 1993? JAMES (Cautiously) yes that’s correct DCI Green (Pursuing) What were you doing at 7pm last night?
JAMES (confusingly) ermmm…
James’ eyes close again. Flashing back to another setting.
3.INT. JAMES MUM AND DAD’S HOUSE – EVENING – ESTABLISHING suddenly we’re out of the white room, there’s no one around in the house. But evidence that there’s going to be a party of some sort, there is equipment to play music through, empty glasses next to alcoholic beverages. James’ phones rings.. JAMES (boldly) now then buddy, how you doing? You still coming tonight?
JOE (exaggeratedly) Yeah! Sure I am, everyone else still coming also?
JAMES (positively) Believe so, no ones dropped out as of yet, so yeah I guess JOE (Calmer now) decent I’ll see you in an hour or so Hangs up phone and puts it back into pocket. Camera focuses on clock, which turns round to 8pm. People begin to arrive, dancing etc. Flashes back to the interview room DCI GREEN (determined) so at this moment, everything was calm?
JAMES (Cautiously) yes, everything was running smooth, what’s this all about? DCI GREEN (strongly) last night there was a murder, the victim being a member of your party, hence why you’re in this position now, we are led to believe the suspect was present at your party JAMES (shocked) Who is the victim? Where did this happen? DCI GREEN (pressingly) sorry that’s all private and confidential, can you remember anything else from last night? Flashes back to the party, view of clock which shows the time being 9:30pm, people drinking and dancing, having a good time. JAMES (proudly) you alright mate? Been pretty good so far don’t you think? JOE (warily) yeah it has been good, apparently Sam’s coming though? I didn’t know you had invited him? You know we hate each other James looks away briefly then back at Joe whose anger is seemingly building up inside him. JAMES (apologetically) I know that there’s a hatred between you two but Sam’s still my friend at the end of the day
JOE (furiously) thought we were best mates Joe turns around and walks away from James, cuts back to interview room DCI GREEN (determined) so with Joe being pretty angry, do you reckon he could murder anyone? JAMES (unspeakably) no… Joe wouldn’t… Surely he wouldn’t… Shit DCI GREEN (determined) what son? JAMES (unspeakably) Sam came up to me… he said… he said that Joe had already hit him on the way in… but… no, this can’t be possible… honestly Joe wouldn’t… DCI GREEN (fetchingly) not even with the influence of alcohol? Or the fact he was already angry? Or that he felt betrayed? Or even lonely? I think this interview has run its course son JAMES (Speechlessly) I can’t… I can’t… believe this… not Joe James crosses his arms and puts his head into them on the table DCI GREEN (strongly) interview terminated at 11:42
DCI Green presses another button on the cassette player and stands up off his chair and pushes it under the table where James is still laid.
