The Prophet Muhammad

Muhammad: The name means praiseworthy He was the last messenger of god Not looked upon as the creator of Islam by the muslim people He had many revelations. They started when he was 40 continued for 23 years (together these revelations make up the Quran Childhood Born in Mecca, 569 Orphaned by the age of 8 Father died before birth, mother soon after He was left in the care of his uncle, Abu Talib As an Adult Known for his excellent manners and honesty Praying a lot, worship to one God. He was very religious Worked as a merchant Achievements as a Leader Founded the Rashidun Empire Conquered Mecca and Arabia Brilliant tactican Achievements as a Prophet Unite Arab people under one religion Spread the word of god People looked up to him People followed him Romantic Life He met and married a rich merchant woman Khadija Through out his life he had 13 wives/concubines, though most of them towards the last 10 years of his life 6 kids with Khadija Had 7 children all together. 3 boys and 4 girls

His Legacy All his revelations were written in the Quran After his death there was a split in the religion, people disagreed about his successor. Some people believed it should be his partner, and others believed it should be his son Umar ibn al-Khattab & Ali ibn Abi Talib Modern Portrayals of Muhammad Often portrayed in a negative way, especially in the past Now generally viewed in a positive light You shall not make yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
