Cancer Connection Specialist

Job Description
Overview: Imerman Angels is a young, exciting, grassroots nonprofit organization that provides 1-on-1 cancer support to cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers living anywhere in the world. We are looking for help from skilled and fun people to support our fast-paced growth and provide assistance to our staff, volunteers and executives. This position is unpaid and provides valuable work experience, references, and access to a wonderful network. Reporting to the Connections Manager, the Volunteer Connection Specialist is responsible for contributing to the Imerman Angels program in a call-center environment, ensuring program success, quality control, and improvement. Key Responsibilities: Core Connections Program - Initially Speak with and listen to cancer survivors ("Mentor Angels") assessing needs, giving them a reassuring, calming, nurturing and empathetic presence Maintain direct interaction with Mentor Angels to screen, train, collect feedback, thank and update profiles Maintain expertise about cancer types, sub-types, treatments, procedures, side-effects, etc Stay current regarding cancer-industry events, topics, news, issues, trends, etc Maintain high-level of knowledge of external cancer partner organizations, services and resources for incoming and out-going referrals Identify and suggest ways to improve all connections-related activities and tools Understand key success and impact measurements and metrics Provide feedback/input for the training materials and modules for Support Seekers and/or Mentor Angels as needed Update Connections Manager with progress, questions, concerns and feedback as scheduled Core Connections Program - Future, as needed Speak with and listen to cancer Support Seekers, assessing needs, giving them a reassuring, calming, nurturing and empathetic presence Match cancer Support Seekers with the best possible available Mentor Angel(s) Maintain direct interaction with Support Seekers to screen, train, collect feedback, thank and update profiles General Attend scheduled team meetings relating to the connections program Stay aware and knowledgeable of all IA projects, programs and activities Observe organizational rules, roles, expectations, guidelines and values Required Skills & Experience: Cancer Survivor - per our policy all Connection Specialists are cancer survivors Excellent verbal, written and general computer skills (intermediate use of Microsoft Excel) Organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, takes initiative Ability to work independently with little supervision Willingness to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers Strong work ethic, a good sense of humor, a friendly personality General awesomeness Experience with Gmail and/or Google Sites or Google Apps Time commitment: A minimum of 4 hours per week over at least a 4 month period
