ORDER OF WORSHIP

Hymn of Praise
7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Unison Scripture
7:30 a.m.

Deuteronomy 11:11-22 (NRSV)

But the land that you are crossing over to occupy is a land of hills and valleys, watered by rain from the sky, 12a land that the LORD your God looks after. The eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. 13If you will only heed his every commandment that I am commanding you todayloving the LORD your God, and serving him with all your heart and with all your soul 14then he will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the later rain, and you will gather in your grain, your wine, and your oil; 15and he will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you will eat your fill. 16Take care, or you will be seduced into turning away, serving other gods and worshipping them, 17for then the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you and he will shut up the heavens, so that there will be no rain and the land will yield no fruit; then you will perish quickly from the good land that the LORD is giving you.

IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE LORD ON MY SIDE

If it had not been for the Lord On my side, where would I be? Where would I be? He kept my enemies away, He let the sun shine through a cloudy day. He wrapped me in the cradle of His arms, when He knew I had been battered by the storm. So, if it had not been for The Lord on my side, Where would I be? Where would I be?

You shall put these words of mine in your heart and soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and fix them as an emblem on your forehead. 19Teach them to your children, talking about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. 20 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21so that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land that the LORD swore to your ancestors to give them, as long as the heavens are above the earth. 22If you will diligently observe this entire commandment that I am commanding you, loving the LORD your God, walking in all his ways, and holding fast to him,

Unison Scriptures
11:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m.

Deuteronomy 11:11-22 (The Message)

The land you are entering to take up ownership isnt like Egypt, the land you left, where you had to plant your own seed and water it yourselves as in a vegetable garden. But the land you are about to cross the river and take for your own is a land of mountains and valleys; it drinks water that rains from the sky. Its a land that GOD, your God, personally tendshes the gardenerhe alone keeps his eye on it all year long. 13-15From now on if you listen obediently to the commandments that I am commanding you today, love GOD, your God, and serve him with everything you have within you, hell take charge of sending the rain at the right time, both autumn and spring rains, so that youll be able to harvest your grain, your grapes, your olives. Hell make sure theres plenty of grass for your animals. Youll have plenty to eat. 16-17 But be vigilant, lest you be seduced away and end up serving and worshiping other gods and GODerupts in anger and shuts down Heaven so theres no rain and nothing grows in the fields, and in no time at all youre starved outnot a trace of you left on the good land that GOD is giving you. 18-21Place these words on your hearts. Get them deep inside you. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder. Teach them to your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning until you fall into bed at night. Inscribe them on the doorposts and gates of your cities so that youll live a long time, and your children with you, on the soil that GOD promised to give your ancestors for as long as there is a sky over the Earth. 22-25 Thats right. If you diligently keep all this commandment that I command you to obey love GOD, your God, do what he tells you, stick close to him,
10-12

Deuteronomy 11:11-22 (NIV)

But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. 12It is a land the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.
11

Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them. 17 Then the LORDs anger will burn against you, and he will shut the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the LORD is giving you. 18Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, 21so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. 22If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to followto love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways and to hold fast to him,

Confession of Sins
Almighty and Most Merciful Father, we come before You, acknowledging our sins, our shortcomings, and our breaking of our Covenant with You. Not only have we done things we ought not to have done, said things we ought not to have said, left undone so many things we ought to have done and been silent when we should have witnessed for You. Not only are we guilty of that, O Lord; but we have also closed our eyes and pretended not to see the injustices, the racism and the evil which pervade our everyday lives. We have shut our ears and pretended not to hear the cries for liberation which come from the lips, lives and hearts of the oppressed even our own Black brothers and sisters! Forgive us, O Lord, renew our courage and faith, and keep us ever mindful of Thy great sacrifice. Hear us, we beseech Thee, as we come to You in love and worship giving Your Name the praise forevermore. ****** To All Our Visitors ... To all who mourn and need comforting ... To all who are friendless and want friendship ... To all who are oppressed and need liberation; and to whosoever will come, Trinity opens its doors. Thank you for coming, and may God bless you.

It Is Finished Litany
Leader: Four years ago, our church was attacked by powerful corporate and independent entities, Looking to sully the name of our church, the work of our Pastor Emeritus, Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., and derail the campaign of then Senator Barack Obama. People: But God protected us and blessed our ministry. Leader: Four years ago, an ecumenical coalition of ministers, churches and denominations stood with Trinity United Church of Christ in our hour of need. Congregations across the globe, ministers from around the world, and seminary students of every denomination stood with Trinity United Church of Christ. People: God provided friends and supporters when we were swimming in deepwater. Leader: Four years ago, our church received death threats and hate mail, and witnessed lies spread by the Internet; lies designed to destroy our faith. But God provided literary warriors to craft epistles of good news and encouragement for our ministry. People: God raised a community of encouragers and prayer warriors to protect us. Leader: We witnessed God showing up and showing out. We witnessed the power of praying saints and worshiping children. We witnessed love manifested in the form of calls, concern, and cards. Leader: We close the chapter on 2008, shut the door on hate, and cast the memories of the election of 2008 into the cellar of botched attempts by the enemy to silence the prophetic voice of Gods people. People: The chapter is closed, the door is locked, the page is turned, the credits have started to roll. Eyes have not seen; ears have not heard what the glory of the Lord will reveal in the life of Trinity United Church of Christ. This day we close this chapter and prepare for what God has for us in the future.

A Word From the Pastor

Trinity Family,
Once again, we will dedicate our second offering on the 2nd Sunday, November 11th, to the men and women of Trinity who, while you may not see many of them, are cri cal to the opera ons of this church. Rev. Dr. Mar n Luther King said, All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence. With that thought in mind, those that labor to make our branch of Zion fit for praise, for worship, and yes, for worklabor that uplifts not just humanity, but Godit is so important for us to recognize and thank them for delivering service with love, and excellence. On behalf of Trinity United Church of Christ, to all of our staff , our team, THANK YOU . . . For maintaining our plumbing For keeping or restrooms clean and stocked For disinfectng our baptism pool For all the vacuuming and mopping For working on the roofs over our heads For keeping the AC working through the summers, and keeping the heat on during the winter For maintaining our safety and building security For being there for our bereaved, our sick and our shut-in For delivering the technology needed for our worship experiences For wireless networks (and working wired networks) For keeping count, paying bills and building budgets For moving traffic in, out and around For layouts, and graphics, and printing, DVDs and CDs, and books For Bible classes that inform and enrich our faith For keeping the power flowing For staying late, and coming in early For embracing Love and Excellence every day! Please take a moment, when next you see one of your Trinity team members, to thank them for their work on our behalf. And, in your prayers, please include your Trinity team, most of whom you never see, but all so cri cal to the orderly func oning of your church. Asking you to ImagineDignity in ALL our work. About BRSG
The guiding vision of the Black Religious Scholars Group (BRSG) is to sponsor consultations and speaking series for the edification of the liberating theology and witness of the Black Church tradition within the academy, church and wider Black community. Our annual public forums across North America at welcoming congregations continue the process of exploring ways in which meaningful dialogue and partnership can occur between Black religious scholars and the larger Black community and its churches for the well-being and advancement of both our people and communities. The BRSG is committed to creating dialogues that forge bonds of communication for partnership and innovation between Black peoples. Central to our vision, is the conviction that dialogue and collaboration among scholars, churches and community activist organizations is essential for cultivating transformative debates and promoting social justice.

LANNAN FOUNDATION AND NATION BOOKS PRESENT

Chris Hedges with Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. Monday, November 12, 2012, 7:00 p.m.
The Newberry Library 60 West Walton Street

Sign up today!
Chris Hedges, journalist, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and former veteran war correspondent is a senior fellow at the Nation Institute and Truthdig.com columnist. His newest book, Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt, a collaboration with Joe Sacco, is a searing account of their travels through the sacrifice zones of the U.S. (Pine Ridge, South Dakota; Camden, New Jersey; Southern West Virginia and Immokalee, Florida), those areas that have been offered up for exploitation in the name of profit, progress, and technological advancement. In words and drawings Hedges and Sacco show us what life looks like in places where the marketplace rules without constraints, where human beings and the natural world are used and then discarded to maximize earnings. His books include The World As It Is: Dispatches on the Myth of Human Progress; Death of the Liberal Class; and Empire of Illusion. Hedges will speak about poverty in the U.S., followed by a conversation with Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Book signing and reception to follow.

2012 Trinity UCC Theme Walking, Talking and Living Our Faith, Ephesians 4 (NLT)
January Ephesians 4:1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. February Ephesians 4:2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each others faults because of your love. March Ephesians 4:3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. April Ephesians 4:4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. May Ephesians 4:5-6 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all. June Ephesians 4:7 However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ. July Ephesians 4:11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. August Ephesians 4:12 Their responsibility is to equip Gods people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. September Ephesians 4:13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of Gods Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. October Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. We wont be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. November Ephesians 4:15-16 Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church. He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. December Ephesians 31-32 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.
