BACKGROUND The Paste and Thickened Tailings Seminar, organized every year since 1999, is the leading forum for practitioners in field to meet, deliberate, and exchange knowledge and information. The Seminars are held in important international locations. In 2013, the Seminar will take place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, one of the world’s major mining centers. To address technologies of particular relevance to Brazil, the scope has been widened to include additional dewatering methods, including hydraulically stacked (e.g. cycloned tailings sand stacks) and filtered tailings. The Seminar will address any tailings processing and management that enables tailings to be deposited by methods that reduce water consumption and/or reduce or eliminate retention berms or dams. OBJECTIVES The objectives of the Seminar series are to disseminate the advances in technology made in the field of paste and thickened tailings, and provide a forum to present and discuss field applications, and obtain feedback from practitioners working at mine sites worldwide. WHO SHOULD ATTEND The Seminar is aimed at all those involved in the design and management of mine waste disposal facilities, and includes:

• Engineers • Operators • Mine Owners

• Legislators/Regulators • Researchers • Equipment Manufacturers

The following topics and related themes are the focus for Paste 2013. 1. Hydraulically Placed Dry-Stacks • Hydraulically placed, drained sand stacks (cyclone sand stacks and dams). Design, Operation and Performance • Hydraulically placed and sun-dried slimes stacks. Design, Operation and Performance
