In  the  Name  of  Allâh,  the  Most  Beneficent,  the  Most   Merciful.

W orshipper’s Need For Tawheed   Imam  Ibnul  Qayyem  Al-‐Jawziyah  rahimahu  Allah  said:   “Know   that   the   worshiper’s   need   to   worship   Allah   alone,   without   associating   anything   in   his   love,   neither  in  his  fear,  hope,  trusting  upon  Him,  actions  to   Him,  swearing  by  Him,  vowing  for  Him,  submission  to   Him,   nor   in   humbleness,   exaltation,   prostration,   and   closeness   is   greater   than   the   need   of   the   body   to   its   soul,   and   the   eye   to   its   light,   rather   it   is   not   to   this   need  equivalent  is  measured.       Indeed,  the  reality  of  the  worshiper  is  his  soul  and  his   heart,  and  there  is  no  rectification  of  them  except  by   their   Lord,   beside   Whom   there   is   none   worthy   of   worship   except   He”   [Tareq   alHijaratayn   and   bab   assa’adatyn:  99].       Tawheed is the call of the Prophets and Messengers, and It is the First and Last Command   And   he   rahimahu   Allah   said:   “Tawheed   is   the   first   call   of   the   Messenger,   and   first   stage   of   the   course,   and   the  first  residence  the  traveler  to  Allah,  the  Most  High,   resides   in,   He,   the   Most   High,   said:   ‘Indeed,   We   sent   Nah   (Noah)   to   his   people   and   he   said:   "O   my   people!   Worship   Allâh!   You   have   no   other   Ilah   (God)   but   Him”’   [Al-A’raaf   7:59],   and   Hood   alayhis   salam   said   to   his   people:   “Worship   Allah,   you   have   no  other  Ilah  beside  Him,”  and  Saaleh  alayhis  salam   said   to   his   people:   “Worship   Allah,   you   have   no   other   Ilah   beside   him,”   and   Suayeb   alayhis   salam   said   to   his   people:   “Worship   Allah,   you   have   no   other   Ilah   beside   him,”   and   Allah,   the   Most   High,   said:   ‘And   verily,   We   have   sent   among   every   Ummah   (community,   nation)   a   Messenger   (proclaiming):   "Worship   Allah   (Alone),   and   avoid   (or  keep  away  from)  Taghut  (all  false  deities,  i.e.  do   not   worship   anything   besides   Allah)”’   [An-Nahl   16:36].     Therefore,  Tawheed  is  the  key  of  the  Messengers’  call,   and   because   of   this   the   Prophet   sallallahu   alayhe   wa   sallam   said   to   his   messenger,   Muaadh   ibn   Jabal   radi

Allahu   anhu   as   he   sent   him   to   Yemen:   "You   are   going   to   a   nation   from   the   people   of   the   Scripture,   so   let   the  first  thing  to  which  you  will  invite  them,  be  the   Tawheed   of   Allah.   If   they   bear   witness   that   laa   ilaha   illa   Allah   –   none   has   the   right   to   be   worshipped   except   Allah   –   and   that   Muhammad   is   the   Messenger   of   Allah   sallallahu   alayhe   wa   sallam,   then   tell   them   that   Allah   has   enjoined   on   them,   five   prayers   to   be   offered   in   a   day   and   night"   [Sahih  Al-Bukhari],  and  he  mentioned  the  hadith.  He   also   said,   “I   was   commanded   to   fight   the   people   until   they   bear   witness   that   none   has   the   right   to   be  worshipped  except  Allah  and  that  Muhammad  is   the   Messenger   of   Allah   sallallahu   alayhe   wa   sallam”  [Sahih  Al-Bukhari].     Thus,  Tawheed  is  the  first  thing  by  which  one  enters   Islam,   and   the   last   thing   by   which   one   leaves   the   Duniya   (world)   as   the   Prophet   sallallahu   alayhe   wa   sallam   said,   “Whoever’s   last   saying   is   none   has   the   right  to  be  worshipped  except  Allah,  he  would  enter   the  paradise”  [Abu  Dawud,  Hasan].  So,  it  is  the  first   and   last   obligation   as   Tawheed   is   the   first   and   last   command”  [Madaarijus  Saalikeen:  3/444].       And   he   rahimahu   Allah   said:   “Allah,   the   Most   High,   said:   “And   of   mankind   are   some   who   take   (for   worship)   others   besides   Allah   as   rivals   (to   Allah).   They   love   them   as   they   love   Allah.   But   those   who   believe,   love   Allah   more   (than   anything   else)”   [Al- Baqarah   2:165],   and   the   most   correct   of   the   two   saying  is  that  the  meaning  is  they  love  them  like  they   love   Allah.   Hence,   they   equated   between   Allah   and   their  rivals  in  terms  of  love.  Then,  He  (Allah)  negated   that  from  the  believers  when  He  said:  “But  those  who   believe,   love   Allah   more   (than   anything   else)”   [Al- Baqarah   2:165],   because   those   who   believed   and   made   their   love   sincerely   for   Allah,   they   did   not   associate   in   it   anyone   else   with   Allah.   As   for   the   polytheists,  they  were  not  sincere  to  Allah.       And  the  goal  from  creation  and  command  is  this  love   only,   and   it   is   the   first   call   of   the   Messengers,   and   last   saying   of   the   believing   worshipper   who   if   he   dies   on   it,  he  would  enter  paradise  for  his  acknowledgement   and  affirmation  about  this  love  and  singling  the  Rabb   (Lord),   the   Most   High,   with   it.   It   is   the   first   thing   by   which   one   enters   Islam,   and   last   thing   by   which   one

leaves  the  world  to  Allah;  and  all  the  actions  are  like   the  tools  and  instruments  for  it,  and  all  the  residences   are   means   to   it,   and   means   to   attain   it,   complete   it,   and   in   fortification   of   it   from   the   flaws   and   defects;   thus,   it   is   the   leader   for   millstone   of   happiness,   and   the   soul   of   faith   (Emaan),   and   trunk   of   Islam’s   tree,   and  because  of  it  Allah  sent  down  the  Book  [Quraan)   and   the   iron”   [Tareeq   Al-‐Hijratayn   wa   Babus   Sa’aadatayn:  442].     Tawheed is the key of Paradise   And   he   rahimahu   Allah   said:   “And   it   is   the   word   for   which   the   heavens   and   earth   were   established,   and   Allah   created   all   creations   upon   it,   and   upon   it   the   religion   was   founded   and   Qiblah   was   appointed,   swords   of   Jihad   were   practiced,   and   it   is   the   pure   right   of   Allah   upon   all   worshippers.   And   it   is   the   protective   word   for   blood,   wealth,   offspring,   in   this   world,   and   the   rescuer   from   the   punishment   of   the   grave   and   punishment   of   the   Hellfire,   and   it   is   publicized   that   none   will   enter   paradise   except   by   it,   and  the  rope  that  does  not  reach  Allah,  whoever  was   not  connected,  is  because  of  it,  and  (it  is)  a  key  to  the   house   of   Islam,   and   by   it   people   are   divided   into   miserable   and   happy,   accepted   and   rejected,   and   by   it   the  nation  of  disbelief  was  divided  from  the  nation  of   faith,  and  the  center  of  bliss  from  the  center  of  misery   and   humiliation,   and   it   is   the   carrier   pillar   for   the   obligation   and   the   sunnah,   and,   “Whoever’s   last   saying   is   none   has   the   right   to   be   worshipped   except   Allah,   he   would   enter   the   paradise”   [Abu   Dawud,  Hasan]  [Aljawab  Alkafi:  196].       And   he   rahimahu   Allah   said:   “Since   the   shirk   is   the   greatest   of   the   three   sins   with   Allah,   the   Most   High,   He   prohibited   the   paradise   for   its   people.   Thus,   a   polytheist   person   will   not   enter   paradise.   Only   the   people   of   Tawheed   will   enter   it   (the   paradise)   because   Tawheed   is   the   key   to   its   door.   So,   whoever   does   not   have   the   key   with   him,   its   door   will   not   be   opened  for  him,  and  likewise  if  there  is  no  teeth  in  the   key,   the   (door)   opening   will   not   happen   by   it   (the   key)”  (Alwaabeel  Assayeeb:  41).     Tawheed is the cause of Chest’s openness

And   he   rahimahu   Allah   said:   “From   the   greatest   causes   of   chest’s   openness   is   the   Tawheed,   and   according   to   its   perfection,   its   strength,   and   its   increase  will  be  the  openness  of  its  possessor’s  chest.   Allah,  the  Most  High,  said:  “Is  he  whose  breast  Allah   has  opened  to  Islam,  so  that  he  is  in  light  from  His   Lord   (as   he   who   is   non-Muslim)?”   [Az-Zumar   39:22],   And   He,   the   Most   High,   said:   “And   whomsoever   Allah   wills   to   guide,   He   opens   his   breast   to   Islam,   and   whomsoever   He   wills   to   send   astray,   He   makes   his   breast   closed   and   constricted,   as  if  he  is  climbing  up  to  the  sky”  [Al-An'am  6:125].     Thus,   the   guidance   and   Tawheed   are   from   the   greatest   causes   of   breast’s   openness,   and   the   shirk   and   misguidance   are   from   the   greatest   causes   of   chest’s   narrowness   and   tightness”   [Zaad   Al-‐Ma’aad:   2/41].           The Quraan, all of it is regarding Tawheed   And   he   rahimahu   Allah   said:   “Every   verse   in   the   Quraan,   it   is   inclusive   of   Tawheed,   witnessing   about   it,   calling   to   it,   because   the   Quraan   it   is   either   information  about  Allah,  His  Names,  His  Attributes,  or   His   Actions,   so   it   is   Tawheed   of   informative   knowledge,   or   either   calling   to   His   worship   alone,   without   associating   anything   to   Him,   renouncing   everything   that   is   worshipped   beside   Him,   so   it   is   Tawheed   of   intentional   request,   or   either   it   is   a   command,   prohibition,   and   obligation   about   His   obedience   in   regard   to   His   prohibition   and   His   command,   so   it   is   the   rights   of   Tawheed   and   its   perfection,   or   either   a   news   about   Allah’s   generosity   to  the  people  of  His  Tawheed  and  His  obedience  and   what   He   would   do   with   them   in   the   world   and   how   He   would   honor   them   for   it   in   the   hereafter,   so   it   is   the   reward   of   His   Tawheed,   or   either   it   is   a   news   about   people   of   shirk   and   what   He   would   with   them   in   the   world   from   the   punishment,   and   what   He   would   give   them   from   the   penalty   (and)   chastisement,   so   it   is   about   one   who   went   out   of   the   Ruling   of   Tawheed.   Therefore,   the   whole   Quraan   is   about   Tawheed,   its   rights,   its   reward,   and   regarding   the   status   of   shirk,   its   people,   and   their   reward”   [Madaarijus  Saalikeen:  3/450].

Tawheed is the cause of all righteousness in the world   And   he   rahimahu   Allah   said:   “And   whoever   ponders   over  the  states  of  the  world,  he  would  find  cause  of  all   righteousness   on   earth   is   Tawheed   of   Allah,   His   worship,   and   obedience   of   His   Messenger   sallallahu   alayhe   wa   sallam   and   every   evil   in   the   world,   trail,   calamity,   lack   of   rain,   overpowering   of   enemy,   and   other  than  that,  cause  of  it  is  opposing  His  Messenger   sallallahu  alayhe  wa  sallam,  calling  to  other  than  Allah   and   His   Messenger.   Whoever   ponders   over   this   with   rightful   contemplation   and   reflects   over   the   situations   of   the   world   since   it   was   established   until   now   and   until   Allah   inherits   the   earth   and   whoever   is   upon  it,  and  it  is  the  news  of  the  inheritors,  he  would   find   this   matter   like   that   specifically   about   himself   and  in  regard  to  the  right  of  other  than  him  in  general,   and   especially,   there   is   no   power   except   with   Allah,   the   Most   High,   the   All-‐Mighty”   [Bidaa’ea   Al-‐ Fawaa’ead:  3/525-‐526].     Tawheed produces beautiful speech and righteous action   And   he   rahimahu   Allah   said:   “And   this   tree   will   continue   to   produce   righteous   actions   at   all   time   according  to  its  firmness  in  the  heart,  the  love  of  the   heart  for  it,  its  sincerity  in  it,  its  knowledge  about  its   reality,   its   establishment   of   its   rights,   and   its   consideration   about   its   rightful   care.   He   is   reformed   by   it   with   the   religion   of   Allah,   which   there   is   no   better   religion   beside   it.   Thus,   he   learned   the   reality   of  worship  that  his  heart  affirms  it,  his  tongue  witness   to   it,   and   his   limbs   testify   to   it,   and   he   negates   that   reality   and   its   requisites   from   everything   beside   Allah,   and   his   heart,   his   tongue   agree   with   this   negation   and   affirmation,   and   his   limbs   complied   to   Whoever  he  bore  witness  for  with  Oneness  as  reliable   obedient  on  the  path  of  His  Rabb  in  humility.
