CHENG TECK ING
DIPLOMA IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Dear Teck Ing,

EXCLUSION FROM COURSE ENROLLED

Swinburne University of Technology (Sarawak Campus) has established Standards of Progress which detail
the minimum academic standard students are expected to maintain to be allowed to continue with their
studies.

A student’s progress will be considered unsatisfactory if:

• The student fails all the enrolled subjects in the semester.
• In each of the two most recent semesters in which the student was enrolled the student fails 50%
or more of the enrolled subjects; or
• The student fails a subject for the third time, inclusive or a resit exam; or
• The student fails to meet the academic conditions previously imposed by the Swinburne University
of Technology (Sarawak Campus) Examination Board.

In accordance with the Standards of Progress, your academic progress has been reviewed by the
Examination Board and is considered unsatisfactory. A recommendation has therefore been made that you
be excluded from the course in which you are enrolled.

You may wish to “show cause” as to why you have not achieved a satisfactory standard of progress. In this
case, you should write to the Chair of the Examination Board stating why you should not be excluded. If you
do not show cause your exclusion will stand. Show cause letters should be addressed to:

Chair, Student Progress Review Panel

Jalan Simpang Tiga,

This show cause letter must be received by 5 P.M. on Wednesday, 4 February 2009 and should detail
any circumstances which you believe have affected your progress. Documentation to verify the
circumstances should be included with your letter. You must also include a telephone or fax number on
which you can be contacted. If you are unable to meet this deadline due to circumstances beyond your
control, you must contact the Assistant Manager on 082-416353 Ext. 8716 to explain why you cannot
meet the deadline and when the application will be delivered.

Your case will be considered and you may be required to attend an interview normally within five working
days of the receipt of your show cause letter to discuss your performance with the Student Progress Review
th
Panel. You will be advised on Thursday 12 February 2009 by telephone if you are required to attend
an interview. Failure to attend the interview if required will result in your exclusion from the course.
You may have discussed (or wish to discuss) your academic progress or personal problems with members
of staff, or a counselor from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. Please advice in your
show cause letter if you have discussed, or intend to discuss your situation with any of the above.

Yours sincerely,
