He contributed to the calculus and completely changed the world we live in, giving us new insight on problems we still would be unable to solve without him. He was born in france in 1601 and died in 1655. Alongside being a mathematician he was a lawyer. Often he made statements but never provided the proof, and his greatest statement was called Fermats last theorem. It was not until very recently when Andrew Wiles managed to provide proof to his conjecture. Andrew Wiles is a professor of math in Oxford university. What got Wiles interested in fermats last theorem was: I was a ten year old and one day I happened to be looking in my local public library and I found a book on maths and it told a bit about the history of this problem and I, a ten year old, could understand it. From that moment I tried to solve it myself, it was such a challenge, such a beautiful problem, this problem was Fermat's Last Theorem. He was born in 1923 and died in 2005. I recognized almost all the words which were stated in the movie. Most of the advanced math words I did not understand.

In number theory, Fermat's Last Theorem states that no three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation an + bn = cn for any integer value of n greater than two. Pythagoras' theorem proves that if you draw a square on the longest side (the hypotenuse) of a rightangled triangle, its area is the same as the areas of the squares drawn on the two shorter sides, added together.

Fermat said that if instead of constructing squares (two dimensional figures) on the sides of rightangled triangles, you constructed cubes (three dimensional analogs of squares), or hypercubes (four dimensional analogs) or higher dimensional cube-analogs, there are no equivalents to the Pythagorean triples. In other words, there are no whole number values for 3, 4 or more dimensional analogs of the square.

Pythagoras theorem is A^2+B^2=C^2 Fermats theorem is that if the exponent of A^2+B^2=C^2 is greater than 2, then there are no whole numbers that will make the statement true. Andrew Wiles worked on his childhood passion for over 7 years. During those 7 years he never told anyone about it, or showed anyone his work. Andrew Wiles describes his experience doing mathematics by going through a dark, deserted mansion, and as he entered every room he had to find a way to light it. As he walks around in the dark bumping into furniture showing him a new part of the room and making it easier to find his way and light it. He always worked in secrecy so that other people would not realize what he had realized and try and solve the problem too.

He always loved his work, but many times it became frustrating as many problems arose that needed to be fixed which made it annoying. He would relax by taking long walks at the lake. Young children are calm, and if you are with them then their calmness will make you calm. After giving his lecture about the proof of fermat's last theorem he became one of the 25 most interesting people in the world. But after some time people discovered flaws in his theorem. 2 years later of constantly working on it he figured a theorem with no errors. He is so excited and emotional about his work because he did one of the greatest mathematical problems of the century. So great, in fact that he was knighted for his work. Proof in math is very important because people rely on mathematical equations to solve other ones. If the statement is unproven then we are unsure whether it is correct or not, meaning the statements we make using that one could be incorrect. I do not think fermats proof is the same as Andrew Wiles proof. The math that he used to solve the conjecture is very recent, advanced math. In my opinion, I think that the proof Fermat had was incorrect, since he never wrote it down. The proof is supposed to be pages and pages thick. He would have to have written it down and properly studied it to make sure it was correct.
