CONSIDERATION ON THE TERM TEROTECHNICS FROM ITS ETYMOLOGY TO ITS DOMAIN OF APPLICATION CONSIDERAII ASUPRA TERMENULUI DE TEROTEHNIC DE LA SENSUL ETIMOLOGIC LA DOMENIUL DE APLICARE
Professor, Ph.D. PISOSCHI Alexandru-Grigore* University of Craiova, Faculty of Mechanics, Romania Department Road Vehicles, Equipments and Machines for Agriculture Abstract: In this paper, the author, who graduated from a secondary school where the main subject matters were Latin and ancient Greek, presents the two verbs in ancient Greek from which the term TEROTECHNICS is derived; its correct meaning and its application to the domain of road vehicles are also presented. The decision to make known the verbs in ancient Greek linked to the term analysed and also their translation was the result of the fact that the explanation given so far, tero from the root of the ancient Greek verb to take care , is not correct. Key words: Road Vehicles Terotechnics. Rezumat: n aceast lucrare, autorul, absolvent de liceu clasic (limbile latin i elin fiind disciplinele principale), prezint cele dou verbe din limba elin din care a derivat denumirea de TEROTEHNIC, sensul adevrat care trebuie neles i aplicarea n domeniul autovehiculelor rutiere. Hotrrea de a face cunoscute verbele din limba elin i traducerea acestora a decurs din faptul c explicaia de pn acum: << tero, de la rdcina verbului a avea grij din limba elin veche >>, nu corespunde adevrului. Cuvinte cheie: Terotehnica autovehiculelor. To our knowledge, in 1976 the etymology of the word TEROTECHNICS was presented for the first time: << tero from the root of the old Greek verb to take care>>, explanation which was adopted by all the literature appeared in Romania. The syntagm limba elina veche is incorrect, knowing the fact that elina designates the old Hellene, spoken in antiquity, whereas elena refers to the modern Greek language. My research was not easy because, so far, there hasnt been published an adequate dictionary, be it Romanian old Greek or old Greek Romanian. Those who studied the old Greek in school were using the vocabularies at the end of their textbooks. We based our research on Dictionaire Grec-Franais by M. A. Bailly, Librairie Hachette, 79 Boulevard Saint-Germain, Paris, 1929, 97295 Imprimerie Lahore, 9 rue de Fleurus, Paris 1929, having the format 17 x 25 cm and 2227 pages (purchased on November 18, 1930). In figure 1 we presented the inner cover of the above mentioned dictionary (11th edition, the first appearing at Orlans in 1894). The term TEROLOGY is derived from two verbs and a noun from old Greek: = verb: 1. chauffer, brler (warm , burn); 2. tenir chaud (keep warm) [2, pag. 930]; ) - = verb: avoir la garde de; veiller sur (survey /on) [2 page. 1927];

, o = la parole; une parole; un mot (noun word) [2. pag. 1200], Its meaning is talk about maintaining in function/warm. The conclusion of our observations is that the explanation root of the verb cannot be accepted, because the verbs in question are spelled differently and have different meanings. In some books the word teros is mentioned. Indeed, - o = qui veille sur; gardien de [2, page 1927]. We should notice that with the same pronunciation, according to the quoted dictionary , - o = saison de la chaleur (pag. 929).

TEROLOGY is the interdisciplinary science which deals with the initiation and carrying on of the activities concerning the technical supervision in order to maintain in function technical equipment and installations (in our case autovehicles) [5]. The applied branch of TEROLOGY is TEROTECHNICS, which comprises two groups of actions that are performed within the whole chain of activities: conception-designproduction-exploiting-repairing of technical elements or systems [1]. The first group of actions [1] includes the coordination of activities from the stage of conception to that of production, the purpose being that of making technical elements or

Many times the word logos is translated by science. According to the dictionary [2 pag. 775] - = 1. science; 2. application de lsprit.

systems (products, cars, in our case autovehicle parts), which would require as few maintenance operations as possible, along their period of exploitation. The second group of actions [1] includes the organization, discipline and control maintenance operations, in order to keep these operations at maximal levels of operating, safety, exactness and profitability. The complex of terotechnical activities (main solutions, constructive solutions, technological level of production, the quality of maintenance system, the technological level of reconditioning, assembling and tests at parts level and final stage) applied to technical elements and systems reflects in the durability of these elements and systems, also in the preservation of their initial qualities, respectively in their established reliability for a certain period of time. In some reference books regarding TEROTECHNICS it is mentioned that the name of the science would broadly mean to take care of technics according to the translation from old Greek. The reality is different. To take care of comes from another verb: = prendre soin (to book after, to mind, to watch); entretenir (to upkeep, to maintain in good condition) ; soigner (to take care of) according to [2, page 928] and [3]. We can also quote : = qui prend soin (who takes care of) [2, page 928] and [3] ; = care-taker, one who books after [4]; = care\taking [4]. So, resuming what we have already mentioned above, the meaning is to watch the process of maintaining in function. n anul 1976 a fost prezentat pentru prima oar, dup tiina noastr, proveniena denumirii de TEROTEHNIC: << ... tero, de la rdcina verbului a avea grij din limba elin veche >>, explicaie care a fost preluat de ntreaga literatur de specialitate aprut n Romnia.

928] i [3]; = ngrijitor, cel care ngrijete [4] i = ngrijire [4]. DECI, RELUND CELE MENIONATE MAI SUS NELESUL ESTE A SUPRAVEGHEA MENINEREA N FUNCIUNE. BIBLIOGRAPHY (1) Aram Constantin Terotehnica, Editura Tehnic, Bucureti, 1976; (2) Bailly M. A.
