Next Week
Books are $10 and are available at the Lighthouse Bookstore. Come hear special speakers Nancy Powers talk about Tamar on November 28th, Kim Hayes speak on Rahab December 5th, Paula Bulmer talk about Ruth on December 12th, and Shannon Moore speak about Bathsheba on December 19th. These are the stories of unlikely women who changed eternity. Tamar, betrayed by the men who controlled her future, she fought for her right to believe in a loving God. Rahab, a woman with a past to whom God gave a future. Ruth, who gave up everything, expecting nothing, and God honored her. Bathsheba, whose beauty stirred the passion of a king, and whose pain moved the heart of God. Mary, who responded in simple obedience to Gods call. Each was faced with extraordinary, even scandalous, challenges. Each woman took great personal risk to fulfill her calling. And each was destined to play a key role in the lineage of Jesus Christ. Tuesday and Wednesday RefresHer will combine for these four weeks.

What is Known
Former Cabinet member of the Bush administration, Donald Rumsfeld, spoke of international situations in terms of three categories. You start with the known knowns. Some things are obvious and clearly understood, then you move into the known unknowns, which reminds us that though some things are predictable, we have no way of knowing when and where they will occur. Then there are the unknown unknowns, the black swans that almost nobody currently predicts. Rumsfeld forgot to mention the unknown knowns, the things that Dr. Hayes Wicker the average person doesnt know but are very familiar to theologians, historians, economists, and particularly believers Senior Pastor who see the eternal beyond the temporal. We know that things are not getting better, but will probably get worse without divine intervention. Jews in Israel are wringing their hands. After all, the maps used in schools in Gaza and the West Bank dont even show Israel! So much for the two-state solution. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that rockets fired by Hamas have intensified centuries-old conflict. The financial debt in our country reminds us of our own precarious economy. I am certain that believers must make a crucial choice in these days about what we know to be true concerning obedience to God and His prophecies about the future end times. There are knowns when it comes to testing God concerning tithing. Many of you have discovered His faithfulness when you stepped out in faith, bringing the whole tithe into the storehouse of the local church. God said, Test Me now in this. You have seen Him open the windows of Heaven and pour out for you a blessing (Malachi 3:10). But others are gambling that God will turn the other way when they rob Him in tithes and offerings (Malachi 3:8). It is not known how God will rebuke the devourer in the economy of those who do give or how He, on the other hand, curses the whole nation (Malachi 3:9) of those who are disobedient. You would never launch a terrorist attack on our church, but omission can be as deadly as commission. We must take our eyes off of what the government and economy are doing and trust in what God will do. I do not know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future, as the old saying goes. While the government seeks to take more and more away from us in higher taxes or other regulations, our gracious God wants to give more and more to us, and even to make our nation a delightful land (Malachi 3:12). May we confidently say this fall: We make known Your faithfulness to allwe make known Your deeds among the people (Psalm 89:1; 105:1).
