The Fe||ows w||| have the un|que opportun|ty
to meet experts and pract|t|oners - from ac-
tors, d|rectors, and wr|ters to costume des|gn-
ers and act|v|sts - to |earn about a|| aspects
of creat|ng a p|ay, and about the soc|a| |mpact
that theater can have when |t addresses both
current and un|versa| |ssues. At the conc|us|on
of the ten weeks |n Hamburg, the Fe||ows w|||
return home and, w|th the support of the |n-
novat|ve on||ne curr|cu|um and an exper|enced
mentor, |mp|ement a project |dea they are pas-
s|onate about.
The D&F Academy Fe||owsh|p |s a un|que and
prest|g|ous opportun|ty for young peop|e aged
18 to 28 who are eager to make a change.

The Challenge
Each D&F Project |s centered around a Cha|-
|enge, a hands-on task g|ven to the Fe||ows by
the Project Fr|end, wh|ch they w||| work on as
a group on dur|ng the|r ten weeks |n Hamburg.
ln the course of the D&F Academy Theater
Project, they w||| wr|te, rehearse and stage a
mu|t|||ngua| p|ay together w|th Project Fr|end
N||s Dan|e| F|nckh. The focus of the p|ay w||| be
|dent|ty and |ove; a react|on to the new cha|-
|enges our not|ons of |nd|v|dua| and nat|ona|
|dent|ty face |n an |ncreas|ng|y g|oba||zed wor|d.
The Fe||ows w||| br|ng the|r own exper|ences, ar-
t|st|c creat|v|ty and |mag|nat|on, and w||| have
the opportun|ty to |earn from pract|t|oners
about a|| aspects of wr|t|ng and stag|ng a p|ay.
ln the process, you w||| not on|y |earn more
about yourse|f, but a|so exper|ence the |mpact
that theater can have on soc|ety.
The Curriculum
||ke a|| D&F Academy Projects, the Theater Pro-
ject w||| cons|st of two phases: the ten week Oha|-
|enge Phase |n Hamburg and the ten month lm-
p|ementat|on Phase. Dur|ng the Oha||enge Phase
the Fe||ows w||| part|c|pate |n three courses:
The Cha||engeLab |s centered around the
Oha||enge, a hands-on group task posed by
the Project Fr|end. The Oha||enge|ab prov|des
the know|edge and sk|||s necessary to success-
fu||y fu|f|| the Oha||enge. lt covers not on|y pro-
ject spec|fc know|edge from N||s Dan|e| F|nckh
and other exper|enced profess|ona|s from the
fe|d, but a|so sk|||s |n project management and
team |eadersh|p, taught |n sess|ons run by D&F
Academy staff.
The Med|aLab |s an |nteract|ve and hands-on
course |n wh|ch Fe||ows |earn to use d|fferent
med|a, espec|a||y v|deo and b|ogs. The course
enab|es Fe||ows to reach a broader aud|ence
for the|r ventures by creat|ng the|r own web-
s|tes and f|||ng them w|th good qua||ty content.
The DreamLab, an |nnovat|ve start-up course,
|s based on va|ues and sk|||s that are cruc|a|
for the Fe||ows to p|an and |mp|ement the|r
ventures and thus to pos|t|ve|y |mpact soc|ety.
The course |s ongo|ng through both Phases. A
key m||estone for every Fe||ow |s the presenta-
t|on of the DreamP|an at the end of the Oha|-
|enge Phase |n Hamburg, wh|ch then becomes
the bas|s for |ts |mp|ementat|on dur|ng the ten
month lmp|ementat|on Phase |n the respect|ve
Fe||ow`s home country.
The DreamPlan and
Implementation Phase
Once back home, Fe||ows |mp|ement the|r
DreamP|ans mak|ng use of the know|edge and ex-
per|ences they ga|ned throughout the Oha||enge
Phase. Dur|ng th|s ten month lmp|ementat|on
Phase, Fe||ows take part |n an on||ne curr|cu|um
on the D&F O|oud, and are coached, mentored
and adv|sed from the D&F team as they |mp|e-
ment the|r own ventures! The c|oud prov|des the
p|atform for ongo|ng mutua| exchange between
the Fe||ows and the D&F commun|ty.

After tak|ng a two-year break to spend t|me

prem|ere of Katja |ange-Mü||er`s nove| 'Bose
Schafe". Th|s work was recent|y recommended
for the German theater pr|ze 'Der Faust". Our-
rent|y, N||s |s prepar|ng the tr||ogy 'Jugend und
Entsche|dungen".
ln 2013, he w||| stage TSOHlK, a theatr|ca|
adaptat|on of Wo|fgang Herrndorf`s bestse||er
by the same t|t|e. A|so, he w||| d|rect the de-
but stage performance of the award-w|nn|ng
Tv-product|on HOMEvlDEO. Start|ng |n 2014,
N||s Dan|e| F|nckh w||| stage the frst theatr|ca|
product|on of the nove| 'Porno", lrv|ne We|sh`s
seque| to 'Tra|nspott|ng".
Acc|a|med actor and d|rector N||s Dan|e| F|nckh
stands for provocat|ve theater, and has suc-
cessfu||y used th|s med|um to address a var|ety
of contemporary soc|a| |ssues. He |s exc|ted to
work w|th dynam|c Fe||ows to promote change
and |ntercu|tura| understand|ng.
N||s Dan|e| F|nckh was born |n Ü|m, Germany,
|n 1968. He rece|ved a scho|arsh|p from The
Memor|a| Foundat|on for Ju|y 20, 1944 to pur-
sue forma| theater tra|n|ng, wh|ch he comp|eted
|n 1991. N||s began h|s career as a free|anc|ng
actor short|y thereafter, wh|ch |nc|uded recog-
n|t|on as the 'Young Actor of the Year 1993`
and performances at the Staatstheater Stutt-
gart, Münchner Kammersp|e|e and Schausp|e|-
haus Bochum.
ln 2000, N||s turned h|s attent|on to d|rect|ng.
H|s frst short f|m, ''Noch fünf Stunden``, pre-
m|ered at the Hamburg F||m Fest|va| |n 2002.
Between 2001 and 2005 he a|so staged ''Tra|n-
spott|ng``, ''Romeo and Ju||et``, ''The P|||ow-
man``, and ''Spr|ng Awaken|ng`` at the Schau-
sp|e|haus Hamburg, for wh|ch he was awarded
'Young D|rector of the Year 2005` and nom|nat-
ed for part|c|pat|on |n the 2006 Theatertreffen
|n Ber||n.
N||s and actress N|na Petr| founded the Thea-
terfabr|k Hamburg |n 2006. Together they
staged product|ons of ''Dogv|||e``, ''Shoppen
und F|cken`` and the 2007 theatr|ca| prem|ere
of Franco|s Ozon`s f|m ''5 x 2``.
ln 2008 N||s co||aborated w|th author Amon
Barth and a team of 8 young peop|e on the
project ''Ha|t|os`` to exp|ore the causes of youth
v|o|ence and we|fare dependence.
