Professional Experience: Classroom Teacher- Second Grade Aug 2012-Present Unity East Elementary School, Philo, IL, 61864  Created and updated second grade website with resources and information for parents.  Motivated and enriched strong readers through the Accelerated Reader program.  Collaborated with ESL teacher to create SIOP lesson plans for English learners in my classroom.  Promoted cultural and linguistic awareness through multicultural literature studies and teaching a lesson in Spanish.  Worked on a committee to promote Character Counts and put on monthly assemblies focusing on Everyday heroes in the community who represent these character traits.  Trained in the CATCH wellness curriculum.  Wrote and received a grant for Multicultural picture books through Donor’s Choose. Classroom Teacher- Kindergarten Aug 2011-May 2012 Unity East Elementary School, Philo, IL, 61864  Engaged students through dancing and singing daily.  Implemented Michael Heggerty’s Phonemic Awareness Program.  Taught both literacy and technology skills by incorporating video clips and Power Points through the use of a SMART board, LCD projector, and visiting interactive literacy websites such as more.starfall.com, scholastic.com, pebblego.com, etc. in the computer lab.  Wrote and received a grant for a SMART board through the Wal-Mart Foundation. Study Abroad Experience- Student Observer- Third Grade Jun 2010 Instituto Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia, Alta Gracia, Cordoba, Argentina  Studied and observed teaching styles in different parts of the world.  Main placement in Misericordia, but also visited several other rural and urban schools in Argentina. Organizations and Honors:  Order of Omega Greek Honors Society Member Apr 2009-May 2011  Dean’s List, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, College of Education Fall 2009, Fall 2010  Sigma Kappa Sorority- Mom’s weekend co-chair, Ordering Chair, Sexual Assault Liaison, Historian  Greek Intervarsity- a Christian ministry for the Greek system. I have attended several conferences and a Habitat for Humanity trip to New Orleans. Interests and Future Goals:  Eager to participate in extracurricular activities.  Interested in continuing my study of the Spanish language and ESL teaching techniques.  Interested in continuing to learn how to effectively incorporate technology in the classroom.
