1.How do organizations cope with/post pone prospered obsolescence of managerial personnel.
Discuss the role of leadership in the process. Explain with an example from an organization known to you. Please describe the organization briefly. 1. Before explaining how to tackle or postpone Managerial Obsolescence We have to have an understanding of it. Obsolescence means a product becomes ineffective or become unable to use because of new products and technologies suppose we are using old version of office 2003 and the new people are using latest software available in the market the older version becomes useless which cannot become compatible with the latest technology. This is applicable to managers also and this phenomenon we call as managerial obsolescence According to the definition by Mahler “The failure of once capable manager to achieve results that are currently expected of him. He identified two types of obsolescence: ability obsolescence—the manager’s abilities and skills are no longer sufficient for him to keep up with the jobs; and attitudinal obsolescence—the manager fails to maintain flexibility in attitude and approach, and to changing problems and conditions. Managerial obsolescence is a problem which is affecting our government organizations, various public sector undertakings and even in private companies also. Some managers after reaching much experience they feel that they cannot be changed to new technologies, new type of work methods. The companies have to pay more for them according to their age and experience. They still stick to their old methods. These peoples will be burden to the firm because in the world of stiff competition and active pace managers have to make quick decisions and get fast to reach the organizational objectives. As a result of the expansion of new knowledge and the potential deterioration of previously held expertise, learning does not stop for manager and professionals after their education/training is completed. It is after that point they become dependent on their own self education strategies for updating, which are not seems to be systematic or comprehensive as those of the formal setting they left. Two types of approach need to be adopted to tackle human obsolescence. One at the individual level and other at the organizational level. Individual level employees need to take responsibility for their self-development and professional growth and take initiatives for self-renewal on a regular basis. Organizations too have a role to play if employees are to expand the necessary energy to remain competent and contribute towards organizational objectives. Some organizations have clear-cut planning strategies to alleviate these problems they update their old version of design or work methodologies to new methods, standards or design software.
These problems can be alleviated by giving proper training, refresher courses to the senior managers which can be made useful for the younger managers also. Continuing professional development of the employees must be an integral part of the organizational culture at every level of hierarchy. Organizations need to adopt different approaches to deal with employees who are at the three different stages of awareness, intention and behavior in relation to updating themselves. Organization makes deals with Universities and educational centers for carrying out training sessions and training programs for their managers.
Giving membership in leading professional bodies such as IEEE. IEC, this membership fees can be given by the enterprise itself. Putting young managers with the old managers in core jobs and projects Our organization managing this cause by integrating new technologies by up gradation to latest software’s Develop continuing educational programs, such as new design software, Distance education programs. Ma Giving the different jobs to different persons, participating the people in meetings related to conflicts or unthinkable activities which occurred on site. Nowadays internet is the new way of acquiring about new technologies and knowledge databases. We could tell us it as treasure house of knowledge at fingertip Have a close look at trends going on in the society, country, and international arena for these promoting High speed internet facilities free of cost. Close monitoring and blocking internet sites which are irrelevant in nature. Giving desktop computers of latest technology available in the market and replace the old ones within the particular time period Provide dummy as well as real-life engineering methods to installation in site Some of the real life pictures or design can be generated virtually on computers To have effective communication between the group members giving prepaid mobile chargers free Group membership suppose the manager is involved in a group Stimulating environment conducive to productive effort including opportunities for educational renewal and diversity of work environment .Well motivated personnel will remain productive until retirement Job related problem solving is the important aid in helping professional keep abreast of developments in their fields Include clauses in the tenders for training inside the country and country of origin Promote training sessions and seminars regarding new technologies and improvements in the manufacturing methods and products Managers may be the leaders within the organization he is having a crucial role to play he has to motivate the people for this process. If the leader doesn’t know about the major things happening around him his venture will be an utter failure so he anyhow try to get used to the practices and policies
