Friends, We used to say that our son, Isaac, would be twenty-five before we could stop holding his hand in the parking lot. He had a potentially deadly habit of rushing out of the car and into the store without looking. We’re not that different than my now soon-to-be-wed, twenty-five year old son. Advertising over the last sixty-years has moved from informing us of products to convincing us that we have unmet needs. Most of the time they’re just wants. The result is, we’ve developed a constant yearning for the next best thing. The problem is when we are over-focused on what is coming next, we miss God’s still, clear voice in the present. Commit yourself to daily prayer and meditation during this season of Advent. Sit quietly for 15-minutes a day. Read the Bible, read a daily devotional, or just sit in silent prayer with your God. It doesn’t matter that you have the perfect words, or words at all, for
“the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for [us] according to the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27 NRSV

Stacy Shelton, Pastor
Pastor Shelton is on leave until mid-January.

Pastoral Needs If you have pastoral needs, please call Interim Pastor Tim Graves at 541-256-0565 or by email at rev.timgraves@gmail.com Tim is typically in town from Thursday thru Sunday. Office hours are 10 to noon on Thursday and 9 to noon on Friday. Please stop by, call, or email.

As you pray and meditate, focus on the love that is within you, between you and others, and written in the very DNA of creation. Don’t worry about doing; just be. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. Accept your negative and positive feelings equally. They are all part of you. And, most importantly, just listen. In time God will speak, perhaps not today, but God will speak. Advent Blessings,

The congregation gave over $1200 to Disaster Relief through One Great Hour of Sharing, Week of Compassion, and Church World Service. Superstorm Sandy recovery is not over. You may still give to disaster relief by using one of the special offering envelopes or simply marking your gift for one of the three funds.

TAKE A NUMBER, SHOP, & HELP A CHILD AT CHRISTMAS
A gift list from the Neighborhood Center will be posted on the bulletin board by the kitchen by December 1. If you choose to participate, please take the number & then sign your name on the correct line. (This will be obvious when you’re standing in front of the bulletin board.) Remember that families with more than one child will have the same number so be sure to check the gender & age before you place your name on the list. Please return your gifts no later than the morning of Tuesday, December 18 so that they can be delivered in the afternoon. If you have questions, or would like Debbie to do the shopping for you, please call Debbie Morgan at 541-256-0257. Betty Gray will be assisting Debbie while she’s away awaiting the arrival of Kellys and Diane’s baby. You may also speak with her about shopping and or questions.
