Media Action 7 Media Trainer (Radio) Yangon 12 months (renewable) fixed term contract, full time

Context BBC Media Action is recruiting a Lead Producer to work on its Burmese youth radio programme LLKS (Lin Lat Kyair Sin/Bright Young Stars). BBC Media Action has recently obtained permission to open a country office in Yangon. We aim to establish a local production team in Yangon from January 2013. BBC Media Action uses media and communications to reduce poverty and promote human rights in developing countries. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to:  Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences around key development issues.  Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. Job purpose The Lead Producer has editorial responsibility for the LLKS radio show, planning schedules and attending edits and studio recordings to exercise editorial control. The Lead Producer will provide editorial oversight to the production team (3 Reporters and 2 Presenters) to ensure high quality programme content. They will work closely with the Media Trainer (Radio) to develop capacity of team members to ensure strong production values are maintained. The Lead Producer line manages the five production team members. The Lead Producer reports to the Media Trainer (Radio) who is responsible for the overall radio training project. The post is based in Yangon but will require regular travel across Myanmar. Main duties  
     

Produce LLKS weekly radio series and deliver final TX version and trails to broadcast partners Commission content to Reporters and Trainees in liaison with the project’s training component Develop content, writing material for scripts, links and package guidelines Manage Presenters to support production tasks and audience engagement Approve potential contributors and interviewees selected by production team Produce pre-production briefings for Presenters and Reporters in coordination with Media Trainer and Assistant Project Manager Use technology, such as recording equipment and Adobe Audition, for editing and production purposes Liaise with other internal teams as appropriate including Research & Learning, to ensure that programmes respond to audience needs, and learning from previous productions is incorporated into future productions. Ensure that financial reporting, health and safety standards and BBC editorial guidelines are followed, training more junior staff where necessary.


Essential skills and experience  A proven record as a relevant programme maker with significant experience of producing high quality, audience-driven radio programmes  A thorough understanding and practical experience of the mechanics of radio production.  Demonstrable flair and technical ability to make high quality programmes, and an in-depth knowledge of established production techniques.  An understanding of the target audience and communities within Myanmar  Reliable editorial judgement and production values as applicable to all aspects of programme making.  A creative approach to programme making already evident in your work.  Experience managing and training staff.  Burmese national with excellent written and spoken English Desirable skills and experience  Strong understanding of youth and development issues Competencies The following competencies (behaviours and characteristics) have been identified as key to success in the job.
