As a teacher, I hope to inspire and empower students to learn. In order to do that, I must first understand that students learn in many different ways. Some kids are visual learners, auditory learners, kinesthetic learners, a combination of those, or other types. I believe that a way of meeting the needs of a variety of learners is by using technology in the classroom. Technology will introduce creative methods of learning while providing hands-‐ on projects, and will be a great way to keep students excited about the learning process. Technology is so prominent in today’s society, and it will only become more and more important. Therefore, by utilizing technology in my future classroom, I will be preparing the students for their futures. I know there are arguments that technology isn’t safe for students, because of cyber bullying, inappropriate websites, etc., but I think the benefits of technology outweigh the negatives. Overall, I believe that technology is an important component in today’s education system, and I know I plan on utilizing it in my classroom. Through this class, I have learned about many technological tools that will prove to be useful in my future teaching career. Honestly, there wasn’t one project or assignment that I knew how to create before this class. If I had to pick a favorite assignment from this course, I would say it was the treasure hunt. I think treasure hunts are a great way to review units while having the students use technology. Another tool I learned how to use and create was a Glog. Many times in classes I’ve had to create some sort of collage, and granted I enjoyed it, but not all students like artsy projects. I think creating a Glog would be a great substitute for the normal collage, plus it is more up-‐to-‐date with the times. An interactive presentation is also a great technological device that can be used in the classroom. This tool is suitable for all ages, but I believe would be practical for younger aged students, like kindergarteners, first, and second graders. It is an exciting way for them to learn something
without worrying about them getting onto inappropriate Internet sites accidentally. Some even simpler, but also effective ways to utilize technology in the classroom are through tools such as Quizlet flash cards, or creating a jigsaw puzzle online. There are numerous amounts of technological instruments out there available for teachers to use in their classroom, and I know I will be searching for even more ideas than the ones I already learned about in this class. I am looking forward to sharing the knowledge I have gained this semester regarding technology with my future students. Although I don’t yet know what grade level I will be teaching, I know that technology will play a huge role in my lesson plans. My view of a perfect classroom would be one in which students are using technology across the curriculum. Technology is such an important factor in today’s society, and it is only going to become more and more significant. In order to truly prepare my students for the future, it is necessary that I utilize technology as much as I can in the classroom.
