Dear Parents, First, I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season. Our Teachers and staff have all been working very hard learning and implementing our first Habit, Be Proactive. I know all of our students are trying hard to be responsible for their choices and behaviors. We already have almost one hundred leaves on our Leadership Tree, in the school entrance, recognizing students for being a leader in their classrooms. We will now begin teaching Habit 2, Begin with the End in Mind. We are focusing our efforts on helping the students to think ahead and set goals for themselves. As we begin our second quarter, it is the perfect time for you to work with your children in setting goals for the next reporting period. Setting attainable, realistic goals helps children be forward thinking and gives them motivation to try harder. Goals can be set for increased home reading, improved grades, improved attitudes toward homework, or memorizing math facts, etc Help guide your children in making meaningful goals. These goals could be posted in your childs bedroom and referred to often. I would love to hear their goals! Beginning this new grading period with renewed enthusiasm and commitment will go a long way toward helping your child see the benefit of this habit. Find ways to reward progress and keep encouraging throughout the next few months until the next reporting period. Here at school, we will be encouraging our students to plan ahead and set goals, trying to do things that have meaning and make a difference. We want all of our students to feel an important part of the classroom and to look for ways to be a good citizens.
Thank you, parents, again for all you do to make Southland the best school ever!
