First Grade News

December 10-14, 2012
What we’re learning
Our Bible stories for this week are “Jesus Appears in Glory” and “Jesus Comforts His Disciples.” We will be reading “Trucks” and “Communities” in our basal reading books. Our phonics focus this week is the “th” digraph and short “u” sound. Math will include adding 2 to a number, a written test, and sorting pattern blocks. In writing we are working on adding adjectives to make our writing sparkle. We will continue working on our Christmas Program for this Saturday.

Monday: Read Christ Light A “Jesus Appears in Glory” Read “Trucks” Tuesday: Memory Work: Christmas recitation (So Joseph also went up from the town

of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.)
Practice Math Facts Wednesday: Read Christ Light B “Jesus Comforts His Disciples” Read “Communities” Thursday: Memory Work: Christmas recitation (Everything that was written in the

past was written to teach us, so that through Scriptures we might have hope.)
Spelling Test (bath, math, path, that, thin, with, then, the Bonus: thick, this) Here are some options for challenging your child: • Christ Light– Read and act out the Christmas story from Luke 2. • Writing– Make a “Happy Birthday” card for Jesus using complete sentences. • Math– Count by 2’s all the way to 100.
