Chapter 8: Something Borrowed
Written by: hippielayla86
Welcome back to the Opus Legacy, a joint legacy between ilovereecee/Katie and myself, hippielayla86. The naming theme for this legacy is our favorite books. The books that have been used so far are the Dragonriders of Pern Series by Anne McCaffrey, and Gone With the Wind by Margarett Mitchell. Two female authors so far, we'll see if that trend continues. Currently its the 3rd generation's time to shine with Melanie (Melly, Mel) Opus as our heiress. She and her sisters, Ellen, Scarlett (Scar) and Tara are all teenagers and are getting restless at home with their father Sebell/Seb (generation 2 heir) and their mother Andrea. It looks like it might be time for them to leave the nest and venture into the unknown world. We'll see how Seb copes with his daughters being out on their own when he didn't like seeing them with their dates at home, I don't know what he's going to think when he's just hearing about it... This chapter will be told from the perspective of our heiress Melanie and if I have something to add, I'll add it at the bottom of the slide. Thanks for coming back to read, and I hope you enjoy the chapter!
So my sister Ellen has finally gotten her wish, Mom and Dad agreed that she's ready for college. I can see that Mom is really pushing Dad to be okay with this, I know Dad is going to have a hard time letting go of all of us. Maybe he'll finally talk Mom into adopting another child once we're all off to college, but something tells me Mom will say no.
Ellen may have been ready to go, but we weren't ready for her to go! We're all going to miss our big sister. We were all there to see her off to college except Dad, I think it was intentional that she waited until he was napping to leave.
Ellen has only been away for an hour or so, but I can already tell Tara is missing her, she's been talking to me all day and following me around. I think she's dreading when she'll be the only one in the house with Mom and Dad. Don't get me wrong, they're great, I love them to death, but Tara's never had their undivided attention, that will probably be pretty intense!
Ellen called us from college, she said she's having a bit of a rough time adjusting to living alone. And doesn't know what to do with herself. She has chosen a degree in Politic Science since she wants to head up the SCIA, but her free time is what's perplexing her...
She said she tried taking up up dancing, but isn't going to take her dance moves to the public any time soon. --Ellen's college transition outfit and dance “moves” were cracking me up. It was as if she were looking at me, like, “Really, you think I should dance right now? I don't think this is a good idea... okay, I guess I will if you ask... can I stop now?”
She said she gave up on the dancing and decided to pick up painting when she wasn't working on term papers or homework.
From her description is sounds like she has quite the nice little rental house. She took quite a few things from home, nearly everything from her bedroom, the bubble blower, the two arcade games and a computer. She said all she needs now is a sister or two to join her...
--Ellen is doing really well with her coursework and has already completed her Freshman year, she has been expanding the rental home to get it ready for her sisters to move in.
This has to be one of my favorite college houses to edit, I've done this same remodel to this rental house 3 times now. I just like how it looks and plays. Though Ellen didn't have enough money yet to get windows for the whole thing.
Before we knew it, a year had passed! Ellen was starting her sophomore year of college. By this time, Dad and Mom were ready to accept that it was time for both Scar and I to go to college as well. So I sat down and applied for my scholarships.
The big day was here before we knew it. And I thought Dad was going to break down in tears, but Mom did a good job distracting him, though Scar didn't seem to agree with her tactics... Poor Tara being the only one left with Mom and Dad!
Ellen was really being modest when she was describing the rental home she had. It was huge, and very well furnished by the time we got there!
Scar decided that we had had the same hairstyle for too long, and plus, she didn't want any new prospects in the lover department confusing us. I know we're twins, but Scar should be more concerned with guys confusing her with Ellen!
I'm settling in quite well at college. I really like my classes and actually enjoyed writing my term paper. It's all I think about really. Scar thinks I'm crazy! I've picked Physics as my major because I would love nothing more than to design games as a career. So I guess when I know that I'm studying to do something fun later in life, it makes it easier. --Mel's LTW is to be Game Designer
Scar has turned into the house mother a bit. We never had to cook at home so she's been learning the basics, and serving them up for all of us.
When she isn't in the kitchen she has been spending her time with her new toy table. She can already make a lot of toys, but she has her eyes set on making a water wiggler for her beloved dogs back home. Some things never change. :)
Our first semester at college passed quickly. Scar and I did really well with our coursework. Things seemed to be going so well!
Coursework and term papers still take up a lot of my time. I guess I'm one of the few sims who actually enjoys going to class! I heard a rumor that one of my classmates is sleeping with the professor to get her grades up, how scandalous! I hate that things like that work, because I work so hard to keep my GPA up the honest way.
Scar is really progressing with her cooking. Tonight she made us lamb and potatoes. It was delicious! I've also taken up a new hobby, I bought myself a pottery wheel with my scholarship money.
Ellen has been getting along really well with the mascot. It's so weird that mascots refuse to tell people their names so they can stay in character! I don't know how Ellen hangs out with him. But, he did convince her to dance again, so that's a good thing.
Apparently reading all of those books as a kid paid off. I love cooking! My sisters tease me about wasting all of our money on expensive ingredients for dinner, but once they sit down to enjoy it, they quickly stop their teasing!
It seems all of our fun and games has gotten noticed. The matchmaker decided to reward our merriment with a lamp, I wonder why?
So classes have been going really well. Ellen is a year ahead of us and has retained her 4.0 and Scar and I have been doing our best to live up to the example our older sister has set. Mom and Dad are pleased to say the least!
I met this really nice guy Chris in class. And while he seems to like me, I'm not so sure about him. I don't think he's right for me, but I have a feeling that he'll get along really well with Ellen! I'll have to introduce him. --Chris and Mel only have 2 bolts of chemistry, so he is cute, but he can't be in the running for her spouse. She needs to find a 3 bolt love. :)
I could tell that Chris kept looking at me with googly eyes, and I did my best to direct his attention to my lovely sister. Out of all of the things she could have been doing, she was dancing...
Ellen, really? I don't know if it was just her normal displeasure at dancing or if someone was getting jealous of me talking to Chris. I mean obviously he'd be a better match for Ellen, they're even wearing matching plaid!
Don't get me wrong, I think Chris is very nice. But he's just not the one. I can tell! But that won't stop me from being friends with him. :)
So I found out that Ellen wasn't glaring at me, she was glaring at Chris. The two of them actually know each other! Apparently they had a class together Freshman year before she had declared her major in Poli Sci, and she was upset that Chris didn't recognize her. The two made up with a hug when they realized. And I could've sworn there was something in the air... --Chris and Ellen got a crush on each other after this hug.
I don't know what came over me today. I went outside to greet this a neighbor passing by, and yes, I think he's hot, but instead of saying hi, I... well... take a look for yourself.
I couldn't help myself, I made eye contact, smiled and then pulled him in for a big kiss. I just guess I just knew I had to have him! --Mel and her neighbor have 3 bolts of chemistry, a first for Mel in college. He could be the one.
Thank goodness he didn't run off after my stunt! “I think we skipped a step, my name is Derek, Derek DePew. And it's very nice to meet you! May I have the name of this dream woman who greeted a stranger with a kiss?” “Yes,” I said, now blushing, somehow the kiss hadn't made me blush, go figure, “I'm Melanie Opus, but most people call me Mel. I agree, it is very nice to meet you too.”
Derek is hot, and I'm sure he knows I think that, but I just couldn't help but tell him. “I want you to know, I've never greeted a stranger like that before, but... there's just something about you. I saw you and I just meant to say hi, but when we locked eyes, well I...” “Mel, trust me, it's mutual. Now, why don't we get to know a little about each other, well, other than we think each other are hot!”
And that's just what we did, we got to know each other better.
But don't believe for one second that that meant we stopped laughing, flirting and gazing into each other's eyes. Now, I'm not new to this dating game, but this is the first time I've felt like this!
--And Mel was not alone, Derek seemed to be falling very quickly for this mystery lady who greeted him so passionately. It made Mel instantly forget about her friend Chris, she wasn't sure about him at the time, but now she knew for sure that her feelings for him were just friendly.
“So Derek, is this a date or what?” “If you keep rubbing my back like that, I don't know if I'll ever leave, so yes, I would consider this a date,” Derek said with a sigh.
“Good, I'm glad you feel the same way, come here,” I said as I pulled Derek in for a hug. I cannot believe that a chance meeting is going so well! I'm really glad that something came over me.
Then we had our second kiss and it was even better than the first. For starters I knew his name this time, and we knew that we liked more than each other's appearances. If my Dad knew how I met Derek he would probably be hunting Derek down and pounding on his door claiming he tricked his pure daughter. What Dad doesn't know won't hurt him. Luckily Derek is a great guy too! Maybe I'll tell Dad how we met after he's already gotten to know and like Derek...
I knew I liked Derek, but did Scar approve? My twin's approval was more important to me than it ever had been before. So we all sat down to a lobster dinner. Maybe my sisters are right about my dinner budget being too large...
Scar and Derek seem to get along really well, I was very relieved! After we finished eating Derek reached over for my hand and said, “Your sister is very nice, just like you,” and then he kissed my hand. What a charmer!
Derek excused himself from the table and said he had a lovely evening and that he would like to see me again soon, very soon.
Later that night he stopped by with a rose for me. Apparently I've made a large impression on his heart too. I'm glad I'm not alone!
The next day my sisters and I decided to hang out at home without any company. I was happy for the solitary time making flower arrangements. It gave me lots of time to think about Derek. --Mel got a bronze badge
Ellen has had a garden since her Freshman year, but she is really getting the hang of it this year. The produce is fantastic, I love using it in my cooking!
“Scar, I'm a bit shocked that you've been thinking about college and college alone. Don't you want to get out there and date?” “Mel, don't worry about me, I have that all figured out,” my twin said with a wink. What in the world was going through my twin's mind?
Apparently she was inspired by me! Well, this wasn't totally out there. Gabe and my sister have been friends for a long time, but friends is all they were. So when Scar invited her friend over and kissed him, I held my breath for his reaction. And yes, I was spying on her from the window. Judge all you want, but I'm her twin and I gotta look out for her! At least Dad would like that sentiment...
Well, Gabe seemed very pleased with Scar's sudden moves!
The new couple ended up having a wonderful night making out all over the house much to Ellen's and my dismay. Scar, we love you, but that's what bedrooms are for, not living rooms! Wow, I sound a lot like Dad!
Well, it's not her bedroom, but at least they were out of our hair. Though I must admit that Scar and Gabe are really cute together!
So, I think Ellen was feeling a bit odd that both of her younger sisters had found boyfriends. So she got her nerves up and invited my friend, her crush Chris over for some studying. Little did he know, she wanted him to study her...
I like to joke that Chris and Ellen had “love at first lobster” I swear I could see him melting as Ellen was melting butter over their lobster dinner. Looks like I'm not the only one obsessed with lobster anymore. Mom always said the way to a man's heart can be travelled in many ways. Ellen decided to take the well tested food method, and it worked.
I've been spending more time arranging flowers, and I must say, I think I'm getting a lot better at it! --Mel now has her silver talent badge. Snapdragons here we come!
Scar and I are sophomores now. It seems like it's been forever since we've seen or heard from our baby sister. I wonder how she's been doing at home. So, I gave her a call, “Oh, so you decided to call your estranged sister finally,” Tara said laughing, “Whoa, whoa, whoa there little sis, what's going on?” I replied willing to join her gag.
“Mom and Dad are driving me nuts! So you know how they would get upset when you had boyfriends? I guess they don't realize that PDA is not fun to see when it's your parents either,” Tara said laughing, “But all joking aside, Dad's garden looks great, and they've been adjusting pretty well to having more time together, I do feel like the odd one out a lot of the time though. I miss you!”
“Well, you seem to be keeping a good head on your shoulders little sis, and you sound overwhelmingly happy, anything new with you?” “I thought you would never ask! Yes, yes there is. I have a boyfriend!” “Oh man, how is Dad taking it?” Now this I want to hear! “Oh he hates him, but I adore him, his name is Christopher, and he's our paper delivery guy, so I get to see him every morning before school! That's how we met actually.” I could hear the smile in her voice, she was beaming! “But don't think I'm not joining you soon at college because of him, I'm trying to talk him into going with me!” “Tara, just be careful, teenage boys can be trouble...”
“Mel, you sound just like Dad, what is up with you!?” “I guess I understand where he's coming from now, I just don't want you to get hurt. I love you, that's all. But I know I shouldn't have to worry, I'm sure Dad has his eye on Christopher.”
“Melly, I have some sad news though too... Moses died the other day, Dad was really upset about it, he was the only one home besides the other dogs” “Ah Tara, that's terrible, he lived a long life but he will be missed.” “Yeah, it was really sad, I've got to get going though, Christopher is outside!!” Well, Tara is a teen, so, I guess I should expect brashness, lol, but still she just told me our family dog died. She is an odd duck sometimes!
--Mel doesn't have any worries with good 'ol Seb around. And boy is he watching Christopher like a hawk! I'm sure he's not pleased that his daughter is outside in her pjs either...
--Andrea really is a good match for Seb, whenever he's been glaring for too long, she goes to find him and give him a good hug as if to reassure him that his daughters are growing up whether or not he likes it!
But, the fear factor worked with Mel's boyfriends, Seb can't stop himself from doing the same with this new youngin.
“Sonny, hurt my daughter and I'll do to you what I do to rats in my garden, you hear me?” “.... yes sir?” “If you have any ill intentions, it'd be best to leave now. I'll be watching you, Kurt” “It's Christopher” “I'll call you what I want, until you prove you're a good kid, I don't need to remember your name, just your face....”
Later that afternoon after Tara got home from school... “Tara... your Dad, should I be worried about him? He's, well he's still really fit for an old guy!” “Why Christopher, do you intend to break my heart?”
“Of course not! I just, well he was a little scary!” “He would love to hear that, you don't have to worry, just treat me right and he'll like you. So, have you thought about my question?”
That night Seb and Andrea's youngest daughter headed off to college. He was sad to see her go. But...
Delighted to be spending some alone time with his lovely wife Andrea. They decided to take another vacation together to Takemizu Village to try and fill their empty nest.
Andrea and Sebell had a blast on their trip. They spent a lot of time smooching, touring...
Relaxing and learning how to “master” zen.
All in all it was an eventful, fun filled trip with a few bad turns here and there.
Seb sure does love to spoil his lovely wife. While Andrea is off learning the secrets to the local massage, Seb is learning the local greeting.
Andrea and Seb spent hours with the old wiseman but couldn't get him to tell the ancient story. Maybe he thought they had enough wisdom of their own? Before they knew it, it was time to head home...
And as Seb and Andrea head home, let's go back to college and check in on their daughters. And Mel will pick up on the narration again...
It looks like Mom and Dad picked up some souvenirs for Tara (and, well, he must be Christopher?) while they were on vacation. Because my little sister most certainly didn't buy a silk dress on her own accord...
I'm regretting coming out to greet Tara in my pjs, I had no clue she wasn't on her own!! – It's time to get used to seeing Mel's sisters' boytoys, boyfriends, future husbands, etc heart fart over Mel... And yes that is Christopher the newsboy grown up.
I was happy when my twin Scar ran outside too and greeted Christopher fully clothed! What a great sister! “Welcome baby sis, I'm so happy you had a safe trip – is that Christopher?” “Yes! Isn't he wonderful??” - she half whispered, “I'm so happy to finally be here, but first things first, we need to change out of these souvenirs from Mom and Dad!” - she said laughing. – It cracked me up when both Tara and Christopher aged up into Asian style clothing since Seb and Andrea were just on vacation there. Kudos to my game for that joke!
I took Tara's priorities seriously and took her inside. I let her borrow an outfit. She then told me she wanted to try a hairstyle without bangs and see if she liked it. So we had fun with Scar's vanity and Tara ended up loving her new hairdo!
It isn't a secret that Tara and Christopher adore each other...
Scar said they could barely make it through lunch without gazing deeply into each other's eyes, and holding hands. She said she saw them flirting in the hallway afterword I'm not so sure about my baby sister all grown up and having a guy living with us...
But, being the responsible older sisters that we are, we made sure Christopher and Tara didn't share a bedroom. So what would have been Tara's bedroom got a manly, grey makeover so Christopher would feel at home. Until Ellen graduates, I will be sharing my room with Tara.
I think she's more bummed about it than I am, but Dad would kill us if they shared a room! – Scar apparently doesn't like it either... ● Christopher is a Fortune sim who wants to become a space pirate, stats - Gemini 3/8/9/5/3
Topher – yes Topher, Christopher decided he wanted to be unique – and Tara are sickeningly sweet together. But every once in a while Topher will put a halt on things. There's something about him that makes me a bit wary... But for now, I'll put my gut feeling aside since Tara seems happy.
Tara was talking my ear off last night before we went to bed, apparently she and Topher had their first kiss. I suppose I thought they had already kissed! Crazy kids! Now they're even worse with their grabby hands...
We were all missing Mom and Dad a lot! So Scar and I ran out to greet them when they finally came to visit. Scar and I took turns talking to Mom and Dad about their vacation, our classes, the dogs back at home (that was mostly Scar asking about them).
And of course, Scar tried to get Dad to do our college's cheer! She had him laughing, but he refrained.
Dad didn't talk to us long before he sought out Kurt – apparently Dad is refusing to call Topher by his name until he proves himself worthy of Tara. Dad cracks me up!
Dad really laid it on Topher, asking him about his hobbies and classes, and then Tara, “So sonny, don't think you can play my daughter like a fiddle! I may not be here to watch your every move, but my other daughters are on watch, and I'm a phone call away...”
Dad is a sweety, but he really knows how to scare our boyfriends! Once Dad finished scaring Topher, Mom convinced him to sit down and relax.
I was finished with all of my homework, so I joined them. We had a blast! I really feel like my relationship with my parents is growing still, they're definitely letting loose more now that we've grown up a bit ourselves.
Dad's visit didn't completely scare off Topher. In fact, it seems that it made Tara have even more feelings for Topher. But, my baby sis is also keeping up on her coursework, so I'm proud of her.
Tara and Topher have completed their first semester at college with an A+ a piece. Tara is now a literature major. – And being the family sim that she is, she now has the want to get engaged to Topher.
Scar was missing her love, Gabe, so she invited him over for a late night date...
They quickly retreated to her bedroom. The following day Scar told me they had the most magical night, and were closer* than ever. – The happy couple did not save it for marriage...
Despite my gut feeling about him, Topher is finally growing on me. It seems he adores Tara. He saved up money from his scholarships and got a pool installed so that his love could relax after a long day at class.
Topher isn't particularly nice though (3 nice points) so I don't know why Tara still plays catch with him chucking the ball at her!
Tonight Ellen took her last final exams and has graduated summa cum laude with a degree in History.
That night Ellen had a fitful sleep, tossing and turning realizing that her childhood was completely gone. She was sleeping in a room with decorations she had had since she was a child, and she was dreading letting it go. Also note the snapdragon bouquet, Mel has achieved a gold badge in flower arranging finally. :)
Something came over Ellen the next day. She went downtown and purchased some new outfits. When I asked her why the sudden hurry, she told me, the future is already here, and I'm not ready!
When she got home, she convinced Scar to give her a haircut to go with her new clothing. It looks like Ellen is trying to grow up in a hurry.
Ellen's new cut and glasses are adorable though! But when I was asked my opinion, I of course said she looked professional, which she does, but adorably so.
Ellen couldn't part too much from her old wardrobe, though Scar did talk her into adding cinching belts to show off her tiny waist and create a more polished look.
Ellen was trying to show off her new look to Tara, but Tara only had eyes for Topher. Though Topher seemed to glance up and “appreciate” the view. So Ellen ignored them and invited her boyfriend Chris over.
Chris did not ignore his girlfriend's new look. Chris loved Ellen's new cut and clothes. He wouldn't let her out of his sight!
I think I may have found the real reason for Ellen's make over, she was getting up the courage to finally kiss Chris for the first time! – I don't know how they haven't kissed yet to be honest!
An ecstatic Ellen then threw a graduation party for herself.
I'm not sure that Dad liked what he saw when he walked in for the party though. But he held his tongue, after all Ellen is an adult now and can make her own decisions.
Dad put his scare tactics aside and had Ellen introduce him to her boyfriend. And lucky Chris, Dad actually used his real name, and didn't call him sonny!
The party lasted all night, after a ton of smustle, I actually tried to go to bed, but was woken up by enthusiastic toasting! I was a little shocked when I came out to Topher toasting Tara though... Poor Ellen!
Ellen's party was soon over, and it was time for her to head back to our old neighborhood.
Ellen decided to move in with Mom and Dad when she first got home so she could take her time finding a house with the money she saved from college. She quickly invited Chris over and asked him to move in as well so they could look together. Chris agreed ready to take the next step in their relationship.
It looks like Dad was controlling his tongue at Ellen's party, but now that Chris was under his roof, he had to lay down the law. “Chris, so far, I like you.” “Sir, I'm so happy to hear you say that!” Ellen must have warned Chris about Dad. “And I know my Ellen loves you. But trust me when I say, if you hurt my eldest daughter, you will suffer a fate worse than a rat in a trap.” Without hesitation Chris replied - “Sir, you have my promise that I will treat your daughter like a queen, and I will help you hunt down anyone that would dare to do her wrong! I love Ellen, and with your permission, I want to ask her to marry me” “It sounds like Ellen has found a good one, you have my blessing son.”
Ellen wasted no time when she arrived home. She quickly got a good job with the SCIA because she had a degree in History.
And she and Chris were adjusting very well to living at home with Mom and Dad.
Mom and Dad were very good at giving the young couple their privacy. It seems Dad actually likes Chris. That gives me hope that he'll accept Derek without too much trouble when they meet! I still don't know why Dad doesn't like Topher...
Things were going so well, that Chris asked Ellen to marry him, and Ellen of course agreed. I'm so happy for my eldest sister!
Chris decided to get a job in the military field since he wants to be general one day. But, it looks like he wasn't as studious as Ellen was in college because he didn't get a very good job starting out. But, he is a hardworker and quickly gained some promotions!
Ellen and Chris didn't waste any time. In just a week, Mom and Ellen had planned an outdoor wedding in their backyard. They picked yellow as their wedding color, and they both looked wonderful under the wedding arch!
The happy couple exchanged their wedding vows, rings and sealed their new union with a kiss. Everyone was there to celebrate with them, Mom couldn't help but stand up and cheer at the end!
Ellen looked so radiant that day. And I was happy to see Mom and Dad so happy.
The celebrations lasted well into the night with the happy couple having their first dance under starlight.
Ellen and Chris are so great together, I'm so happy that they found each other again after parting ways their freshman year.
Ellen called me this morning with some exciting news – she thinks she is pregnant!
Thank you for reading! I hope you have enjoyed this chapter for the Opuses as much as I did! Check out SiMania for updates between chapters.

“Andrea, dear, maybe if we cover our eyes with our suitcases the taxi won't see us and we won't have to go home?” “Babe, I love your sentiment, and I'll go with it for now. But let's just buy a house on the beach when we get home, then we'll always be on vacation.” “Sweety, I love you more and more every day!” ->

Maybe the then virgin Ellen was looking for tips?? Yes, I do a lot of zooming in when I take pictures! In all actuality, Ellen wasn't being a creeper, she was just admiring the new photos on the wall. I have a habit of putting up decorations as I take pictures when walls look too bare.

Topher doesn't let anything get in the way of his smustle.
Not even large objects, including staircases. ->
“Look at that hot chick in that yellow dress!!”
“Hun, now would be a good time to grow the hell up!”
See you next time....
