Thank you Lynne Ferris for your Service to the Chamber
T he Chairperson’s Corner
it is a bottle of local wine, handmade soap, spices and jams, cakes, cupcakes, local cheeses, coffee and pizza the list is endless. The holiday season is here, with so much hype and advertisements it is hard to ignore. How nice would a gift be, purchasing items locally? There are so many hard working local businesses who would appreciate your support. Whether How about a gift card to a local photographer, an artist, a dry cleaning facility, pet services, a local marina, a fishing charter, a limousine service, local landscaping services, local health food store, a gift basket, a local golf course, promotional items, cleaning company or a local campground. There are locally owned restaurants throughout our community. There are so many businesses that belong to the Chamber of Commerce who are either a phone call or a quick visit to their website for gifts for Christmas! Shop local and support our economy! I would like to thank the Board of Directors for their hard work and efforts this year. The Chamber staff, under the leadership of Lynn has really done an exceptional job this year! I look forward to the growth of the Chamber in the future and wish everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous holiday season! Lynne Ferris Firm Administrator Conboy, McKay, Bachman & Kendall, LLP

T he President’s Perspective
you head out to finish your last minute Christmas shopping, there are tremendous options in our community and as a community member it is an opportunity to give back. It is hard to believe Christmas is less than a month away and 2012 will be behind us! The Chamber has had a prosperous year and is truly grateful for the local businesses in our community that continue to support our mission! As The holiday season is not only a major season for retailers; it’s a time when many people make charitable donations, too. In a season of giving, take the time to reflect on your wants and needs—is there someone out there that may need something. Giving to others less fortunate or someone that may be facing some temporary obstacle can be the most rewarding act of kindness which truly has no monetary value. It is our wish at the Chamber of Commerce that all of our members and families have a safe and wonderful holiday season! If you have the opportunity, please join us for December’s Business After Hours at the Paddock Arcade on December 19th from 5pm7pm! Stop down early and finish your Christmas shopping in Downtown Watertown. Warm Wishes and Happy Holidays ,

Lynn M. Pietroski President & CEO

First Round of Watertown Frank & Jeany Danielsen 498 Factory Street Watertown, NY 13601 Phone: (315) 405-4504 Email: jdanielsen@rkinsurance.com The FIRST ROUND is the newest night spot in Watertown. Frank & Jeany Danielsen took an old familiar watering hole on Factory Street and turned it into a new inviting “after work” bar & lounge. The original wooden bar is still in place but certainly looks as though it had changed locations with the comfortable modern décor—so tastefully completed. They have thought of it all from a great new menu, to multiple flat screen TVs, Quick Draw Lottery, and a handy ATM. Weekend music has quite a following too. It is a nice friendly place to relax after a full day’s work and a great place to meet friends on the weekends. This was designed with you in mind--the local business person looking to unwind for a bit. Ricoh USA, Inc. Also, the delicious home cooked meals can’t be beat! So, whether you come for a day trip, or an overnight stay, you will be able to have an authentic farm experience! You choose what you want to do during your stay. You can spend as much, or as little, time around the farm as you want. You are free to observe, be hands on, or stay away from the barn. There is always a place to take a cat nap in the sun, read a book, or watch the clouds float by. Also, you can check out the local attractions, spend time in our family room, or play games. This is your opportunity to have a relaxing, peaceful vacation in the country. They all love to show people their way of living! There is nothing more fun than seeing the delight on a child’s face when they get to feed a calf for the first time, or their surprise when a cow tries to “eat” a shirt. Milking cows, feeding corn and grain, throwing hay bales, playing with the cats and dogs are things that we want you to experience. And seeing the beautiful sunrises and sunsets, hearing the birds sing, and smelling the flowers and clean air can’t be missed. God has blessed them with a wonderful home... and they want to share their joy with you.

New Member... Business to Business (B2B) Holiday Marketing
any case including: surveillance, child custody, criminal investigations, matrimonial investigations and as well as assisting with locating missing persons.

By Jessie Topper
The holiday season is quickly approaching. It is time to start planning your travels, dinner parties, gift shopping and prepping the house for company. Most of us start holiday planning early in our personal life, but many of us neglect putting together a holiday marketing plan for our businesses. A holiday marketing plan can be beneficial to both Business to Consumer (B2C) and Business to Business (B2B) businesses. For most B2C businesses a holiday marketing plan is critically important. The holiday season is when consumers notoriously spend the most money on food, retail items and travel. If you are one of these B2C businesses hopefully you have already started to implement a holiday marketing plan. But, if you are a Business to Business (B2B) the holiday season can also be a good time to set up some holiday marketing campaigns. The following are a few ideas to help get your creative juices flowing: End of Year Discounts If your business has an overflow of inventory, or you want to boost sales before the end of the year it might just be a good time to create an “End of Year Discount” campaign. Consumers are incentivized to purchase during the holidays because of impending occasions, but sometimes businesses can also be incentivized this time of year to make a purchase. You may just find that some departments you are selling into have money left in the budget that needs to be used before the end of the year. Offering a discount, with an end of year expiration date, might just help incentivize them to make the sale happen before the end of the year. Happy Holidays Consider sending a holiday message to your clients and followers to show them that you appreciate their business. This is a great way to reach out and engage with your contacts in a positive communication. Be sure to focus on thanking them for their support and wishing them a happy holiday season; please don’t get this message mixed up with a sales pitch. In addition, to offering thanks and well wishes be sure to include any charitable items your business is participating in. For instance, if your business is participating in any local charity events it would be beneficial to include this in your communications to show that you are proactively helping the community. •Website •Social Media Platforms: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc... •Email/Newsletter •Press Release •Direct Mail •Call Campaign Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/7355833 2012 Reflection Let people know what you have achieved this past year as a business. Did you make any big product changes? Achieve major milestones? Do you provide better customer support? Put together items that will show how much your business has achieved in the past year. You want to prove to your clients why they should continue to put trust in your business, be proud of what you accomplished and show how you are adapting. I would also suggest wrapping in some content thanking your clients for their help in achieving these milestones, either by providing their valuable feedback or continued support. 2013 Look Ahead Inform your clients and followers of your business objectives for the next year. Provide a brief statement that on what your business is looking to accomplish for the next year. It doesn’t need to entail all your goals, simply choose the ones that are most important to your audience. Are there going to be new product/ service enhancements? Is your company taking steps to be greener? Whatever you choose for your message I would suggest making it relevant to your audience and something that would make them proud, happy, or look forward to remaining a client. Letting people know that you want to achieve record sales for next year is probably not going to help keep people as clients, or make people want to do business with you. These marketing campaigns can be implemented through a variety of channels. These are a few channels I recommend pursuing:

Hand of Ki Holistic Center Sandra Smith 21307 CR 202 Watertown, NY 13601 (315) 783-1892 handsofki@yahoo.com www.handsofki.com Hands of Ki Holistic Center offers Reiki and skin care to adults and teens as well as those with treatment-induced conditions. Jefferson Community College to hold Health Information Technology Certification Training Program Beginning in January 2013, Jefferson Community College (JCC) in partnership with the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, will offer a Health Information Technology (HIT) certification training program for professionals in the healthcare and information technology fields. Health Information Technology makes it possible for health care providers to better manage patient care through secure use of electronically shared health information in place of paper medical records. As an increasing amount of physician practices and hospitals move toward the electronic health records (EHR) system, a growing amount of qualified HIT professionals are needed to assist hospitals and physicians as they move to adopt the EHR system. JCC’s HIT certification training is a six month program based on a national curriculum model developed by the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology. Students will gain a working knowledge of health information management and complete two of three HIT certification exams designated for the role of implementation support specialist, technical/software support staff or implementation manager. T he Joy of Giving-Not Just During the Holiday Season
By: Sara Lynch, ACS Outreach Coordinator
Recently, Eloise Kimpland of the North Syracuse American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1297 and Rose Garlick of the Liverpool American Legion Auxiliary unit 188 delivered a donation of the hand knitted baby blankets that ACS gives away to new mothers in our baby bundles. This spirit of giving is not something these ladies do as a holiday tradition; it is a year round act of kindness and generosity. Army Community Service’s Family Advocacy Program provides baby bundles to military families celebrating the birth of a child. The bundles always include parenting information and books and can include diapers, wipes, onesies, socks, booties, baby toiletries, as well as other items you might find in a layette. Of course, the hand knitted and crocheted blankets and sweaters add the finishing touch. The thing is, you can’t even begin to imagine the joy so many Fort Drum moms have experienced from getting a baby bundle after delivering their child. So many new parents have been touched by the generosity of others. Traditionally, expectant mothers are given baby showers by family and lifelong friends. However, military moms are often separated from their loved ones by states and sometimes even countries. It is a wonderful feeling to wrap your new baby in the warmth of a handmade blanket and know that there are people out there that give their support to honor our soldiers and families here at Fort Drum. Recently, Army Community Service Family Advocacy educator, Andrea Peck, is now visiting new moms while they are recovering at Samaritan Medical Center’s maternity ward to offer congratulations and hand deliver a baby bundle. Baby bundles can also be picked up at Army Community Service where the entire staff gets to congratulate mom and hopefully get a peek at the little bundle of joy. Have you ever wondered just how valuable your charitable donation is or who it touches? For more information about Family Advocacy and the baby bundle program, Please call 772-0890 or 772-6556. Theresa Victor and her husband SPC Daniel Victor, of 1-71 Cav are celebrating the birth of their baby boy! The sweater is one of the donations brought by Eloise and Rose.

To aid some of the 30,000 New Yorkers who were left without power in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, employees of Slack Chemical hauled 66 pallets of bottled water to the town of Liberty, NY. With the help of Blue Mountain Springs Water, two of Slack Chemical’s drivers, William Martle and Kurk Jackson, volunteered to make the delivery. The drivers picked up water at Sam’s Club in Watertown and at Nirvana Water, Boonville, and transported it to Sullivan County. Once in Liberty, local municipalities and fire departments distributed the water. The Children’s Home of Jefferson County recently became the first area recipient of a Best Buy Children’s Foundation Community Grant. The $6,000 award will help the agency expand its culinary arts program at the SoZo Teen Center, located within the Marcy Building, 167 Polk St. . Jreck Subs Chief Executive Officer Christopher M. Johnny D’s Restaurant at the Paddock Arcade is unveiling a new dinner menu and extending its hours until 10 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Along with new menu choices, the restaurant’s former 20-foot lunch counter has been renovated to serve as a bar with stools and is about a foot higher than before. Jefferson Community College will offer two certificate programs next year to help north country residents enter health-care careers. The Federal Aviation Administration will provide $222,896.00, with $5,865.68 coming from the state Department of Transportation and $5,865.68 coming from the county, according to the resolution. The Jefferson County Public Health Service will use a $5,000 grant for quality improvement of its preventive programs, especially with Lyme disease. The grant was awarded by the National Network of Public Health Institutes and will cover the cost of sending the agency’s spokesman to training. He then will train agency staff. Samaritan Medical Center patients soon will report to the hospital’s new centralized registration area for outpatient testing services. As part of the hospital’s $61 million expansion and renovation project, the centralized registration area will have its own dedicated entrance just outside of the hospital’s parking garage. Thomas F.
