She made her Bollywood debut with the blockbuster Dabangg in 2010 and now actress Sonakshi Sinha, who is also a part of Dabangg 2, says she is upbeat about being a part of the franchise. “I am very excited. When a film gets a good response, it feels good. I started with Dabangg and now doing Dabangg 2 is very exciting for me,” the 25-yearold said on the sidelines of an event here on Sunday. Sonakshi was joined at the event by director Milan Luthria, who is working with her in the sequel to Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai. In the movie, Sonakshi features opposite Akshay Kumar, who plays don Shoaib Khan. But she refuses to call her own part negative. “It’s negative? No. It’s a very interesting character. For me, as an actor it is a very challenging role and the film is set in a very interesting premise. It is a great role, that’s all I can say now,” Sonakshi said. The film also features Imran Khan and Sonali Bendre. It is to release around Eid next year.

Dabangg 2 is very exciting for Aamir Khan to direct his dream project me: Sonakshi Sinha
After making a highly successful directorial debut with Taare Zameen Par, actor Aamir Khan is contemplating another stint behind the camera. His 2007 film Taare Zameen Par received accolades from both critics and viewers. The 47-year-old actor had also worked as an assistant director for his filmmaker-uncle Nasir Hussain’s movies like Manzil Manzil (1984) and Zabardast (1985). “I have a story that I have chosen and hope to direct. But right now I have responsibility as an actor, plus I have (TV show) Satyamev Jayate season 2,” said Aamir . “The script is written by someone else. I have told the writer it (direction) will take time. I don’t know when I would direct next. As I have Peekay, Dhoom 3 and Satyameva Jayaate 2 in hand. I might produce it as well,” he added. Aamir said that he is fascinated with Mahabharat and will love to be a part of the epic’s presentation on big screen one day. “It is a desire. The project is huge. It is a dream project

for me. But if I decide today that I am making it, I will have to give 20 years to it. This is why I am scared, if I say yes and decide to make it, five years will go only in research and then to execute it.... the material is very exciting for me,” he said. Aamir also cleared the air on reports of creative differences between him and director of his upcoming movie Talaash

Reema Kagti. “As far as Reema is concerned, these rumours are not true. Lots of times they are untrue. Like Lagaan, this time around also there was something about me not being happy with the film. If I go around explaining every rumour I will have to stop working. I have to let go and decide that ultimately the film will speak for itself,” he said.

Deepika Padukone gets injured Bollywood awards during Ram Leela shoot Abhay Deol
Deepika Padukone is known to be very professional when it comes to her shooting schedules. And recently, the Cocktail actor further reinforced her image. Deepika, who is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next, tentatively titled Ram Leela, apparently suffered a few bruises and scratches on her arms and feet. But despite the swelling that the wounds caused, the actor continued to shoot. A source reveals, “Deepika was wearing a heavy ghagra choli and weighty jewellery for a song she was shooting that day. Ranveer Singh (coactor) was also dressed in a dhoti. But he was wearing lots of bracelets and armlets. The choreographer required him to lift her around the place for the song, which is how his accessories ended up bruising her.” The actors were shooting the song at the set which has been created at Film City, Goregaon. Since they were also required to stay barefoot for the traditional number, Deepika apparently Taking a dig at the numerous Bollywood awards, actor Abhay Deol said Saturday that most awards are either rigged or actors attend them because they are paid for their presence. “Talk to any actor off record and he will tell you, you either go because you are winning an award or you go because you are getting paid. Otherwise, you don’t go,” Abhay said during an interactive session at the 43rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here. “In that case, pay me and I’ll perform. If you tell me you are awarding talent, then no. It is just an exercise in appeasing those you have worked with or appeasing those you want to work with,” he said candidly. He recalled an instance from 2009 when his movie “Dev D”, a radical take on the iconic “Devdas” film, rocked the theatres, and despite an electrifying and a wellappreciated performance, Abhay was not nominated for any awards. “I was promoting ‘Road, Movie’ at the time the Filmfare Awards were happening, and

Katrina Kaif is never out of work, it seems. Even when the actor isn’t shooting for one of her many film projects, she is still making money by utilising her free time to perform at weddings and awards functions. Now a source close to Katrina reveals that the actor was paid in crores for her recent appearance at a high-profile wedding at the Jodhpur Palace in Rajasthan. Incidentally, A-list Bollywood leading ladies are known to usually charge only between Rs. 30-45 lakh for a performance. “She performed to some of her hit songs. Of course, her item number ‘Chikni Chameli’ was one of them and she was paid Rs. 1.5 crore for it,” says the source. And she was not the only one to enthrall the guests there. “Priyanka Chopra also took to the stage, but we are not sure how much she charged to be there. But the figure is definitely not more than what Katrina was paid,” says the source. But the story doesn’t end here.

The actor will perform again, early next month, at an event in the city, and she will be paid an even larger amount of money. “She has already bagged a deal for another wedding performance. This will be at the Taj Lands End, Bandra, on December 3. She is getting paid Rs. 2 crore for it,” says our source. And who are the people who

Katrina is free until midDecember, after which she will be shooting a song for Dhoom:3.

Kareena Kapoor played a sex worker in “Chameli” and does so again for “Talaash”, a role she describes as amongst her most sensitive and powerful. “I play a prostitute, who is kind of an escort. Dhoni should not be judged by Kevin Pietersen rested from T20 just one bad game: Harbhajan squad but named in ODI team
Mahendra Singh Dhoni might have drawn flak for India’s poor performance against England in the second Test at Mumbai, but Harbhajan Singh on Wednesday came out in support of his skipper, saying one should not judge him on the basis of just one bad performance. The off-spinner, who was part of the playing eleven at Wankhede Stadium, said one should not forget Dhoni’s contribution in making India the world champions. “Winning and losing is a part of the game and players and captain like Dhoni, should not be criticised for just losing a single game,” Harbhajan said. “We should not forget that Dhoni is the same captain who won us the first World Cup after 1983 triumph. He is one of the best rated captains in the country. By losing just a single match, one should not raise questions at his ability,” the tweaker, who like his other spin mates was put to test by the English side in Mumbai, added. The 31-year-old deposed Star batsman Kevin Pietersen returned to the ODI side but was rested from the Twenty20 Internationals as England announced their squads for the limited-over series against India starting next month. Pietersen, who returned to the Test side for the ongoing series after being sidelined due to the text message scandal during the home rubber against South Africa earlier this year, did not figure in the 13-strong England squad for the two T20 Internationals in Pune (Dec 20) and Mumbai (Dec 22). He was, however, named in the 15-member ODI squad for the five-match series which begins at Rajkot on January 11. Pietersen played his last ODI in February against Pakistan in Dubai and was not picked for the home ODI series against South Africa following the text message scandal. Off-spinner Graeme Swann, who contributed substantially in England’s 10-wicket defeat of India in the second Test, has been omitted from both the squads as the England and Wales Cricket Board went for rotational policy. Stuart Broad will lead the Twenty20 side which has Surrey pace bowler Stuart Meaker as the only uncapped player. Two members of the 13man squad were not involved in England’s recent ICC World T20 campaign -- James Tredwell and Stuart Meaker.

Can’t think of Sachin’s retirement till we find an option: Sidhu
There might be growing criticism against Sachin Tendulkar after a string of poor performances but former India opener Navjot Singh Sidhu feels the senior batsman’s presence is crucial at a time when the team is going through a transitional phase. “We don’t have VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly any more in the team. So we badly need experience and till the time we find an option we just cannot think about Tendulkar’s retirement,” said Sidhu. Tendulkar has scored just 153 runs in the last 10 innings at an average of 15.3 and has also been a major disappointment in the last two Tests of the fourmatch series against England. On Tendulkar’s extended form slump, the cricketer turned commentator said, “Sachin is not God, he is just a human being. He doesn’t have a ‘sudarshan chakra’, he just has a willow and the bat fails at times.” Sidhu said that he feels sad whenever Tendulkar is down but he has been playing for the last 23 years and is experienced enough to come out of this slump,” said Sidhu.

faith in his team and said the side will bounce back in the forthcoming Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. “People should not forget that we have beaten England in their home on many occasions. They should not criticise players and captain like this. We will perform better at Kolkata and will win there,” he said. Asked about Sachin Tendulkar’s poor run with the bat, Harbhajan, who was here along with teammate Suresh

Raina, said: “Sachin has priceless contribution, not only to Indian cricket, but to the world cricket. If he fails in one or two matches we should not criticise him. “My wish is that he should keep playing for the country. His presence gives an edge to the team. Kolkata has always remained one of Sachin’s favourite venues and I am hopeful that he will silence his critics with a brilliant knock there.”

Steven Finn, who missed the first two matches of the ongoing Test series against India due to an injury, figured only in the ODI squad to be led by Alastair Cook. “We are constantly looking to manage the workload of players as effectively as possible and this winter is no different so there are number of players who are being rested for parts of the winter programme. This will enable them to take part in fitness and conditioning programmes in preparation for a busy 2013,” he said. “We have selected squads containing experienced international players alongside younger players who have impressed playing for England Lions and the England

Performance Programme recently and who deserve an opportunity to establish themselves in the England side,” said Miller. He is a ‘Kohinoor’ and can’t be turned into glass. “I am confident he will return to form in the next two Test matches,” he insisted. Talaash Movie Preview Kai Po Che! Batting for a film promotion
Production houses seem to be breaking their heads to come up with innovative promotional and marketing strategies for their films. Now, UTV Motion and, as Ajay is also from north, they will be playing the matches in the capital. Zaheer will join the cast and crew in Ahmedabad. But the makers are currently trying to convince them to play in Mumbai as well,” says the insider. What’s more, the makers want to be well prepared for the matches. So, they have even asked left-hand fast bowlers Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan to train actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who will be playing the part of a cricketer in the film. Former cricketer Ajay Jadeja also makes a cameo appearance in the movie. Abhishek Kapoor is also likely to play in each of the promotional games. When contacted, UTV chose to refrain from divulging details.

The weather gods played spoilsport on the sets of Neil Nitin Mukesh and Richa Chadda’s forthcoming romantic comedy, Ishqueria, which was being shot in Mussoorie. As heavy rains lashed the hills, the shoot first got stalled, and then the makers were compelled to cancel it altogether and move base to a new location. “We had to leave the schedule midway and come back due to bad weather conditions in Mussoorie,” reveals an insider from the unit. This is Neil’s first film since Lafangey Parindey in 2010 where he will be seen in a solo lead role. Richa Chadda, who last starred in Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur, is playing the female lead. The film is touted to be a romantic story, which is why debutant director Prerna Wadhawan decided that the beautiful locales of the hill station would be the perfect setting for it. “But after shooting for a month, the weather became unbearably

cold, and then there was a hailstorm a few days ago,” says the source. Besides the storm, the other challenges of shooting in the winter are the shorter days and the light, which is faint during the day. The production team is now scouting for similar locations at other hill stations. When contacted, Prerna says, “We will most probably

recreate the set in Manali now. The production team is scouting for a similar setting, and we should leave for our next schedule as soon that is finalised.” Meanwhile, Neil has survived a string of flops, and is now banking on his next two films. Besides Ishqueria, he also has an action release called David (by director Bejoy Nambiar) lined up.

Anushka’s secret of success
A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. The next week the man realized that he would need his wife to wake him at 5.00 am for an early morning business flight to Chicago. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence, he finally wrote on a piece of paper, “Please wake me at 5.00 am.” The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9.00am, and that he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn’t woken him when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed ... it said... “It is 5.00am; wake up.” Prisoner: Look here, doctor! You’ve already removed my spleen, tonsils, adenoids, and one of my kidneys. I only came to see if you could get me out of this place! Doctor: I am, bit by bit. A dentist, after completing work on a patient, came to him begging. Dentist: Could you help me? Could you give out a few of your loudest, most painful screams? Patient: Why? Docor, it wasn’t all that bad this time. Dentist: There are so many people in the waiting room right now, and I don’t want to miss the four o’clock ball game. A little boy was attending his first wedding. After the service, his cousin asked him, “How many women can a man marry?” “Sixteen,” the boy responded. His cousin was amazed that he had an answer so quickly. “How do you know that?” “Easy,” the little boy said. “All you have to do is add it up, like the Bishop said: 4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer” An aged farmer and his wife were leaning against the edge of their pig-pen when the old woman wistfully recalled that the next week would mark their golden wedding anniversary. “Let’s have a party, Homer,” she suggested. “Let’s kill a pig.” The farmer scratched his grizzled head. “Gee, Ethel,” he finally answered, “I don’t see why the pig should take the blame for something that happened fifty years ago.” A mother and her daughter were at the gynecologist’s office. The mother asked the doctor to examine her daughter. “She has been having some strange symptoms and I’m worried about her,” the mother said. The doctor examined the daughter carefully and then announced, “Madam, I believe your daughter is pregnant.” The mother gasped, “That’s nonsense! Why, my little girl has nothing whatsoever to do with men.” She turned to the girl. “You don’t, do you, dear?” “No, mumsy,” said the girl. “Why, you know that I have never so much as kissed a man!” The doctor looked from mother to daughter, and back again. Then, silently he stood up and walked to the window, staring out. He continued staring until the mother felt compelled to ask, “Doctor, is there something wrong out there?” “No, Madam,” said the doctor. “It’s just that the last time anything like this happened, a star appeared in the East and I was looking to see if another one was going to show up.” At a recent software engineering management course in the US, the participants were given an awkward question to answer. “If you had just boarded an airliner and discovered that your team of programmers had been responsible for the flight control software how many of you would disembark immediately?” Among the ensuing forest of raised hands, only one man sat motionless. When asked what he would do, he replied that he would be quite content to stay onboard. With his team’s software, he said, the plane was unlikely to even taxi as far as the runway, let alone take off. The tired doctor was awakened by a phone call in the middle of the night. “Please, you have to come right over,” pleaded the distraught young mother. “My child has swallowed a contraceptive.” The physician dressed quickly; but before he could get out the door, the phone rang again. “You don’t have to come over after all,” the woman said with a sigh of relief. “My husband just found another one.”

Leggy lass Anushka Shetty took some time off from the sets of Alex Pandian, where she’s paired opposite Karthi, to interact with the press. The first question posted to her was on her ability to impress everyone regardless of which industry or film she is a part of. Now before the young lady could respond to the question, the film’s director Suraaj sprung up to say that the reason for her success is her smile, to which Anushka said that even if she was not smiling, her costar Karthi would ensure that she had a good laugh on the set. But on the topic of having got the opportunity to work with the top stars like Vikram, Suriya and Vijay, Anushka was very matter of fact in saying that it was only common that talented professionals would prefer to work with people who are of the same kind.

Director clarifies on Andrea’s ‘nude’ scenes

Popular singer and actress, Andrea was in the news recently for her role in the Jiiva - Trisha starrer, Endrendrum Punnagai directed by Ahmed. It was reported that she plays a model in the film and was going to do some nude scenes. The director has rubbished these rumors. Ahmed said that it was true that Andrea was playing a model but there will be no nude scenes. He added that they were planning to make a family entertainer so there could be no question of nudity in the film. Andrea herself has chosen to maintain a dignified silence and let her work do all the talking.

Are you sure your furnace will work all winter?
Modern conveniences allow us to flip a switch for light, insert a plug for electricity, turn a tap on for fresh water — and we always assume that the household thermostat will keep us cozy and warm when the winter winds howl outside. None of these essentials are a guarantee however, especially home heating which always calls for a degree of homeowner responsibility. In contrast though, a recent survey found that only 25 per cent of Canadian homeowners listed ‘booking a furnace maintenance appointment’ as a priority. Everyone else must either be keeping their fingers crossed, or doing it themselves. “To lengthen the life of your furnace, improve its reliability and reduce your energy bills, there are some simple maintenance tips that will make a big difference,” says Dave Walton, the director of home ideas at Direct Energy. “Dependability starts with cleaning or replacing the furnace filter every three months. In addition, be sure to knock down the household temperature at least two degrees overnight—and also during the day when nobody is home. This can actually save you up to 4 per cent on heating bills.” Walton points out that it’s also

a good idea to have a furnace protection and maintenance plan, especially if your trusty heating system is more than five years old. Protection plans give you an annual inspection as well as 24-hour emergency service by licensed technicians. These specialists do safety tests for carbon monoxide and natural gas leaks, and they also test the combustion exhaust of the furnace. Other important low-cost steps for better efficiency include: closing the registers in unused and non-insulated spaces;

sealing up air leaks around windows and baseboards; and boosting the insulation (to at least 30 centimetres/12 inches) in the attic and basement. If you really want immediate and long-term savings however, investigate the advantages of replacing your conventional furnace with a high-efficiency one. Reports show that this one step can result in cost savings as high as 15 per cent – making it well worth the investment. More information is available online at
