Woodruff Church of God e-Edition Newsletter December 11, 2012

Pastor’s Notes: All the Christmas Activities at the Church are officially under way!!!!! We just finished our annual Production of “His Story” and it was WONDERFUL!!!!! Special thanks to Todd & Vickie Porter, our Music Pastors, as well as all their cast and crew, choir members and volunteers who made it possible. The set changes were great, the new music was awesome and the decisions made were ETERNAL!!!!! We have record of 8 salvations and 7 restorations and we know of others who made decisions but did not fill out the cards. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!!!!!!! The highlight for me was seeing people get out of their seats and walk to the front to commit their lives to Christ. That may have happened before but it has been a long time. People generally just repeat the prayer with me, but not this year. People walked the aisle and knelt at the foot of the cross and surrendered to Christ. It was the most awesome thing I’ve seen in a long time!!!!! The other highlight for me was leading a hearing impaired man to the Lord Sunday morning. Working through an interpreter, I prayed the sinner’s prayer with him and he accepted Jesus as his Savior. The power of God was so strong, he was swaying and almost fell out a couple of times before we got done. I love when God shows up like that! THIS COMING SUNDAY……. We have another great part of our Christmas tradition here at Woodruff Church of God. We always look forward to Extreme Kidz Ministry leading us in their Christmas programs as they present “The Secret of Snowflake County”. From the Kiddie parade all the way up to the older children’s play, IT WILL BE GREAT!!!!!! We are blessed to have Rev. Donna Burdette and her husband Garren leading the way, with all their dedicated workers, teachers and helpers. You cannot afford to miss this time Sunday Morning at 10:30. SUNDAY NIGHT….We will be having a church-wide fellowship in the CLC. We have limited times of fellowship in our church but we always enjoy getting together at Christmas to enjoy each other’s company and to fellowship around some food!We are asking you to help us by bringing the following: 1. Sandwiches & chips, 2. Drinks (tea, soft drinks), 3. SWEETS (please!) 4. Canned goods / non-perishable items to help replenish our kidz food pantry. We will have a great time together….we’ll have some fun things to see/hear, we’ll sing some, and we might even have a surprise visit from a very special person….. Hope you all come at 6:00 and join with us!

Church Administrative Board Elections: We were scheduled to vote for our Church Administrative Board this past Sunday, but because of the services Sunday and because of wanting to be fair in giving you every opportunity to know who the candidates are, the vote has been moved to December 30th. We understand that many new people are now attending our church that may not know everyone by name, so we are attempting to place a board in the lobby area with pictures and names so that you can prayerfully consider for whom the Lord would have you vote. There will be 15 names on the ballot and you will be voting for 6 people. To assist you on that day, the picture of the candidate along with their name will be on the ballot as well. In order to vote, you must be a member of the church and/or a faithful financial supporter of the church. You will also be required to sign the ballot. Any ballot that is incomplete, has no signature or is a vote from someone that is not a member or faithful supporter, will be considered invalid.

I just want to say how blessed we are to have a growing and thriving ministry at our Church. The Woodruff Iglesia de Dios (That is the Hispanic Woodruff Church of God) is continuing to minister to a wonderful group. We are blessed to have Rev. Sergio & Mayra Burgos doing a great job!!!! They recently had their 1st Thanksgiving Meal with them and had over 100 in attendance. Please continue that the Lord would bless us as we extend our hand to ALL our community and reach whoever the Lord leads us too. Thanks!

Tithe Boxes are here! Pick yours up in the foyer before or after any service. Numbers are not assigned this year due to a new accounting system, so feel free to pick up any box. Please make sure you put your name on your envelope every week in order to receive tax credit for your giving.

Michael Davis, an outstanding musician, will be our special guest. We will also have a brief fun time along with our carol singing and the reading of the Christmas story. For the last 2 months the Youth Department has tested a pilot program similar to Kidz Kafe. We have fed the Youth every Wednesday Night a small meal to all, in hopes that those who may not get meals at home, may be able to eat. The program was a success. The meals we make are easy to prepare items like tacos, nachos and cheese, corn dogs, and chicken nuggets. We serve these with chips and Kool Aide. We serve meals like this because there is no way to prepare food in the Youth Building, so we prepare the food and bring it warmer pans or crock pots. We are looking for a few people who would like to help sponsor this effort. We need either financial donors or volunteers to keep this program running. I want to say THANK YOU ahead of time for everything you have done and continue to do for the Youth of this Great Church! We are in the process of updating our website. There are a few links that are not complete, but it is up and running. You can see all the calendar events on this website. In the near future there will be videos, pics and even sermons available. What a way to start the week, “his story” is and was a wonderful drama. Vickie and Todd Porter did an excellent job directing the play. The choir and cast did an outstanding performance, I cannot remember the last time I have watched or participated in a drama where the spirit of God made his presences known. I want to tell you about a story and it all took place in my truck. I went to pick up a man that called me and told me I need Jesus, and right now, after the service he did not say anything about accepting Jesus in his heart. Walking to the truck told me how he used to serve God, and he would like to serve him again. I look toward him and asked him why you did not say anything in the service. “I did not want to interrupt the service or class”. Truly sorry I said to him, but would you like to receive him now and with joy in his voice he said, “Yes, right now “. We prayed and he repeated after me but it was like something he lost and he founded again. I told him He is never far away; He is closer than you think. Just run to him, just run to him. We need to run to Him, everyday. Amen!

WEIGH TO GO is a Christian weight loss support group. We meet every Tuesday at 6pm in the classroom underneath the main sanctuary. Entrance to the classrooms is located in the alley between main church and the youth building. Beginning January 1, 2013 WEIGH TO GO will start "Made To Crave" a 6 week Bible study. This Bible study will help us to learn to redirect our cravings for food to craving a better relationship with GOD.
