FAFSA The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Anyone who wants financial aid for college will need to fill out the FAFSA. The application is used to determine the dollar amount you or your family will be expected to contribute towards college. All federal grant and loan awards are determined by the FAFSA, and nearly all colleges use the FAFSA as the basis for their own financial aid awards.

Senior College Application & Decision To-Do List Continue investigating college options and decide which ones you will visit and to which ones you will apply. Review college admission guidelines and requirements using their web pages. Submit admissions applications on-line, or download, complete, print, & mail. Fill out transcript request forms in the Guidance Center. Create and continually update your high school resume. If colleges require recommendations or secondary school/counselor reports, ask the appropriate people to write or complete forms on your behalf at least 3 weeks before the due date. Write thank you notes to those who write your recommendations. Plan visits to colleges if you have not yet visited or wish to return to a college for a second visit. Set up interviews if required or recommended by any colleges on your list. Complete scholarship applications as they become available. Your Counselor will most likely provide most of the information related to this around January or February. Become familiar with financial aid options. If necessary, schedule an appointment with the financial aid officers at the colleges. Get a FAFSA pin number ASAP and begin completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on-line after Jan. 1 of your senior year at www.Fafsa.ed.gov. Find out if the colleges to which you are applying require any other financial aid form. If required, you can register for the CSS Profile at www.collegeboard.com or obtain the colleges own financial aid forms. Stay organized! Keep test score reports, copies of applications for admission and financial aid, scholarship offers, & any other important information. Keep working in your classes! Grades and courses continue to count throughout your senior year. Request that a transcript with your 1st semester grades be sent to any colleges that require a mid-year report or that have requested that information. Remember to monitor your applications to be sure that all materials are sent and received on time and that they are complete. Review your college acceptances, scholarships, and financial aid awards. Be sure to compare the financial aid packages in your decision-making process. If you are positive you will not enroll at one or more of the colleges which accepted you, please notify those colleges that you have selected another college. Keeping colleges informed of your plans might enable those colleges to admit someone else or offer scholarship money to another applicant. If you know which college you will attend, send your tuition deposit and follow all other instructions for admitted students. Pay special attention to information regarding registering for orientation, completing housing applications, having physicals and returning forms, and accepting scholarship and financial aid money.

Remember MAY 1 is the National Candidate Reply Date and you must let all colleges you apply to know of your decision on or before that day. Turn in copies of all scholarship offers to the Guidance Center. If your first-choice college places you on their waiting list, contact the college to let them know you are still very interested. Keep the college updated on grades, activities, & any recent honors. Take Advanced Placement exams in May if you are currently in AP classes. You will request scores be sent to your college at testing time. The Guidance Center will collect information from you in order to send your final transcript to your college and the NCAA if appropriate. State
