‘Victims should come first’
Have you been a victim of crime, or do you work for an organisation that supports victims of crime? If so, I would like to invite you to my first Victims Summit. The Summit is taking place on Friday 11 January 2013, at Tally Ho! Conference Centre, Pershore Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B5 7NR, from 10-3pm. It is important that victims drive the agenda and therefore I need to hear first hand, what you think. I also have a number of other reasons for consulting with you in this way, including: speaking to you as victims or representatives of victims of crime in order to ensure that adequate support services are in place for victims and their families talking about the distribution of funding that is being transferred to the Police and Crime Commissioner in April 2014. This funding will allow me to directly commission victims services and so I want to discuss with you, possible structures giving the police the opportunity to engage and respond to the needs of victims to consider how the needs of victims will be represented locally and lastly, to inform the priority setting process which will feed into local policing plans and my first Police and Crime Plan.

Speakers confirmed for the Summit are: Marcia Shakepeare, who will be delivering the keynote speech and talking about her own experiences Chief Constable for the West Midlands Chris Sims Cllr Jess Phillips (Birmingham Victims’ Champion) and Javed Kahn, Chief Executive of Victim Support and of course I will tell you my thoughts about how we can work together in the future.

I cannot stress how important and valuable your contribution is to both my planning and consultation processes and I look forward to seeing you at this event.
